I recently moved back to my parents house after living away at university for a year, since then they have changed the ISP from AOL Broadband to BT Infinity and I found my wireless card doesn't seem to be compatible. Whenever I turn my PC on I don't know if I'll be able to get an internet connection and if I do it'll only last about an hour, at which point it disconnects and won't reconnect until I restart my computer.

I need some help to see if anyone knows why it's doing this and if it is a problem with the card can anyone suggest a good wireless card.

I need a card compatible with my PC Specs, BT infinity and good enough for online gaming e.g. World of Warcraft, League of Legends etc.

PC Specs:

Motherboard: ASRock K10N78FullHD-hSLI
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor 3.00 Ghz
Graphics Card: GeForce 9400 GT
RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

I have tried two wireless cards both were TP Links, though I can't remember the model, and neither have worked with my internet. As I am in the UK please post any links for cards from UK based websites.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You sure there's not an issue with their router, or in your configuration?

The router works fine with my family's computers just not mine. I can't see anything wrong with my configuration but my knowledge of this kind of thing is minimal so if you have any advice it'd be appreciated.

Have you tried removing the profile [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc778180(v=ws.10).aspx] for your home network? You will of course have to re-enter the wireless password to connect again. In my time as a tech support agent I found that deleting the network and rebooting often cleared up a problem.

Also, there is a setting which commonly causes some problems. To get to it, go to Device Manager (quickest way in 7 is to Start -> run devmgmt.msc; this is an example [http://windows7themes.net/disable-allow-computer-to-turn-off-this-device-to-save-power.html], yours may not look quite the same). Find your wireless card (should be under Network Adapters) and look through the properties for a setting that says "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power" or something to that effect. Be sure it's turned off.

Finally, if all else fails, give the ISP a call. They'll probably have you do a hard reset on the router, despite not having any trouble with the other machines. This won't harm anything unless your parents have made any custom settings on it. It also has a fair chance of clearing up the issue anyway. Wifi is finnicky that way.
