I had all of my wisdome teeth removed about a month ago and no you dont really need pain medication. The strongest thing I used for recovery was water to rinse food out of the sockets. Get ready for everything to taste like blood for a week and be gentle with liquids so you dont get a dry socket.

I always had a problem swallowing pills, really all I did was put it in my mouth and keep drinking glass after glass of water till they went down. Now I can just dry swallow them haha.

Good luck on your procedure though. I barely had any problems with my wisdom teeth, no swelling or pain. I guess I was lucky.

Well I think two of my teeth are visible, bottom, and the other two, top, are gonna have to be cut out. If the pain is anything like braces wire changing, then I may be alright.

Be prepared for pain, wash your mouth out with salt water to make sure you don't get any food trapped where you wisdom teeth used to be. You can try taking pills with yogurt or something like that to make them easier to swallow or take some sort of liquid pain killer.

My wisdom teeth story is long and crazy. The short and shorter of it is this: you need the pain meds. Liquids should do the trick, if you can get a high enough grade painkiller in liquid form. I used pills and was extremely pleased with the results, as I had all four of mine pulled at once and was a drooling ball of ouch for about a week afterwards.

Hey everyone, pretty soon here i'm going to have to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Now the procedure isn't the thing thats scaring me, but its the stuff that happens afterwards that worries me, mainly because I have never taken a swallow-able pill in my entire life. This sometimes is a surprising fact, also i'm surprisingly healthy though a bit on the weak side. Now is swallowing pain pills necessary for the pain I may feel after the fact? Any tips on swallowing pills?

I'm in the exact same situation as you except I'm not expecting much pain afterwards just discomfort. But anyways moving on to the swallowing pills question you could always just crush them up and put them in a liquid. Thats what I've always done when I absolutely had to take pills though I should probably try swallowing them.

I didn't need any pain medication after having my wisdom teeth extracted, the bleeding stopped after an hour or so and I had it done whilst awake and using a local.
All in all took about 40 minutes in and out, was fine within about 24 hours.

I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out at once.

I never took one pain pill.

Ibuprofen only.

It hurt for maybe 30minutes, but that is it.

Here is a tip. Take two bags of frozen peas, bandage them to your face to free up you hands, get a bowl of chocolate pudding, and play video games.

You'll be fine.

Just remember to change the gauze, never spit, and forget about brushing your teeth.

I got my wisdom teeth removed surgically when they were fairly small and hadn't even grown in yet. The pain was manageable without having to use really strong meds. That being said, I do have to take swallowable pills for acne for the next month or so, so what I do is to crush it up with a mortar and pestle (make sure you check with your docs befre doing this) and mix it up in a cup of chocolate pudding. Pretty bearable.

I've had two of my Wisdom Teeth pulled. It wasn't that bad. Just keep the gauze over the hole, don't eat anything that would aggravate it and wait for it to heal.

I had to take some pain pills but not too much. I hear it sucks when you have them all done at once however. I had mine pulled out at separate times.

I had 2 of the suckers removed, didn't need a single painkiller. It's just annoying, not painfull. How can something that's not there anymore hurt you? (Bar phantom limbs and psychosomatic stuff)

When swallowing pills, just do it. You could do what I do: Put one on the tongue, then take a big gulp of water to wash it down with the water. Not just a sip, but a gulp, the pill should float somewhat in the water. Works for me, just feels like swalling a lucky 8-ball.

what i actually do with pills is put it under my tongue, then take a drink..the liquid flows under the tongue and washes the pill out and with the natural movement of swallowing you don't even notice it

I don't know if its necessary...

But just put it as far back on your tongue as you can without choking, then drink some water and just try and swallow the pill in it.

It gets easier with time.
I am now a disabled man who literally (in addition to shots) takes 26 pills a day. I used to be terrified of takin pills. Do what Gamesb2 is suggesting here and you'll be fine. Promise.

If you're on the same pain pills I was, you won't remember taking any after the first anyway... :)

I recently had to go to the hospital to have my lower right one out, and because that wasn't enough, it got infected, and I got a hospital grade sedative/painkiller injection straight into the area, and I still yelled the place down, and had to be physically held down, while this guy pretty much just yanked n twisted with the pliers, but damn, the MOMENT it came loose and tore from the socket, all pain stopped. It sounds bad, but realistically I probably was hurting for maybe ten seconds, and damn I'm pleased he had the sense to not stop.

I should also say mine was deep rooted and difficult, even without an abcess under the tooth, I imagine you'll be in and out with a few absorbent dressings just in case and advice to rinse your mouth with salt water for a few days is all. You'll probably only need basic store bought painkillers for a dull ache at worst.

Luckily I got knocked out for my procedure. When I had my wisdom teeth out I just took my pills with water, I hope you don't swell up as badly as I did (I looked like a goddamn chipmunk)...

And vicodin kicks ass...
