So, anyway, small wall of text incoming.

So, here´s the deal. In my school, next season, we are going to do a play. Naturally, I threw myself to the keyboard and started writing a script the moment I got the news(This was 3 months ago). It took me a while, but I managed to create a *decent* script that was also SFW. I think so, anyway. But here´s the kicker: This is a class project, and the class will have to vote on my script.

That´s okay. I´ve no problem with democracy. But the thing that made me write this post is that I found out that if my script was voted down, then a group in the class would be formed and write one instead. Now, I´m not an idiot who thinks that everything I touch is PURE GOLD and has absolutely no faults, but the people in my class who can write so much as a *functional* script are, truth to be told, ME and one other guy.

The rest are a bunch of idiots who couldn´t write a good script to save their life. THEY LIKE TWILIGHT, FOR FUCKS SAKE. Now, I´m not unfair, maybe it´s their guilty pleasure. That´s fine. But if, when I ask them, they do not point out at least two reasons people don´t like Twilight, then they cannot write a script. That´s it. And they didn´t.

You know, I read a bit of my script for a couple of the girls in my class. You know what they said? "I think every main character should be a woman, because there´s more girls then guys in the class." In the script, there are 8 main characters, 5 male, 3 female. Yes, the women get to take a slight backseat, but that´s only because part of the story is in the middle ages(Just go with it) and as we all know, those people were big on the whole equality issue.
BUT YOU CAN´T JUST EXCLUDE THE OTHER GENDER ENTIRELY!

These people cannot write a script. To delude oneself and say they can would be making a mockery of all things written down on paper. Yet, if these morons find my script poor, I´ll be stuck making a play that might as well be written by chimpanzees.

*Sigh* I don´t know why I´m telling you this. There´s nothing I can really do about it. Well, I´m reading it for the class at then end of this month. I´d appreciate it if you all wished me good luck.

TL;DR: Doing a play, wrote script, if it doesn´t get voted in then I´ll be stuck making a retarded play.

Luck wished. Think about this, though. Twilight, while being inane, idiotic babble, is still accessible to the lowest common denominator in society, which is why its so bloody successful (much to the chagrin of a million other writers with actual talent). The thing about writing a good piece is that you need to understand your audience. Hell, you could write a powerful script that could bring tears to the eyes of the best and brightest in the world but if you performed that play to a bunch of idiots then you would be criticized for not presenting an accessible piece.

Know your audience. Know what they like and what they want. Balance out your brilliance with handouts to your audience and you have GOLD.

Also, some modesty might help sell your script, OP. If you come off like a stuffy, condescending jerk, detached from his peers; people will naturally assume your script is stuffy, condescending and detached. If you have this much disdain for these people I'd suggest you simply leave the group. Wouldn't want the mouth breathers ruining your script if they do vote for it, right?

But good luck, I guess.

Seems to me you're being a bit adversarial about the issue. So what if they like Twilight, plenty of people do. Don't write off the potential talents of others before you even see them write anything, otherwise you can't blame then if they do the same to you and turn down your script. If nothing else, you're learning that creating a piece of art involving multiple people is necessarily about compromise, and that's a valuable lesson. Good luck with it.

Oh yeah, leave school, that´ll turn out well.

I can´t leave. All I can do is hope that my script is well-received. 2 of my teachers have said it was good, and I thinks it´s pretty good. The problem is just that if it get´s voted down, the others can´t write a script(except that one other guy). I´ve practiced alot, I´ve written 2 scripts before this and I know some of the noks and crannies of writing. They don´t.

But yeah, I suppose I come of like a jerk, but it´s only because this frustrates me. I´ve no problem with my script not getting voted to be the one, but I do have a problem with what will come if it does.

Hmmm...I've had this sort of problem before, although I didn't deal with it in this kind of way. Basically when I had to write a script in Drama the best thing we did was worked as a group. Sure there was only four of us but the thing is I'm not the best script writer, I write stories but scripts just baffle me so I guess in this scenario I'd be the other people in your class XD There were two people good at script writing and then me and my friend helped out.

The point I'm trying to make here is that if, and may the gods forbid it, your script is voted down why doesn't your group all just work together, compromise and come up with something you can all be proud of? I don't think you can write off an entire group of people on the stand point that they like Twilight.

i wish you luck. just make sure you actually have them read the whole thing, otherwise all they'll do is complain. draw a picture of a duck on every third page or something, to keep them focused on the script and not whatever else may hold their interest.

It sounds like your education is really preparing you for life as a creative person in a wider industry. Your experience will resonate with many people who design computer games, write novels or plays, even design complex computer networks (my own career). Many people with less experience/talent than you will believe that they can do better than you.

How you deal with that situation is a key mark of how good a creative designer/author you are (or will be). Good designers will know how to communicate/sell their ideas, take on board feedback (educated or otherwise), compromise, defend key decisions and give ground on peripheral stuff.

Welcome to the world. You will be a better person for paying close attention to what other people can bring to a project - and being open-minded, curious and passionate. Sounds like you have the making of a great career.

Best of luck to you ;)

Also; IF you get voted down (cause it can happen), then either; 1) find a way of making "their" idea subtly awesome, so they wont see it, but people who will care will see it 2) claim you've got mononucleosis (or something else) so you can't be in on it 3) find another way to get out of it, or:
4) 1. Help write bad script
2. Rearrange and adapt your old script (with all it's awesome) to fit the new one.
3. Change script.
4. ????

This will prepare you for Hollywood where test audiences ruin your work by changing the ending to include more rainbows and a parade of puppies.
