I also have had some weirdness happening in this game.

In the opening sections at Foltest's camp and also in Flotsam I am getting between 22 and 30 fps. My quad core is not being thrashed and my GPU (GTX 460) is only working at 50-60%, this is with the High settings that were recommended and at 1080p. It doesn't seem to matter what resolution or settings I select apart from the UberSampling, of course, which creates a bit of a slideshow. Every setting I change makes little or no difference I still get the same 22-30 fps. Outside of towns the rate goes up a bit to between 30 and 40. Also, there have been quite a few CTDs without error messages, this is because the game seems to want ALL of your memory (I have 4GB, by the way) and I had to change a windows setting to get it to stop crashing - which is not good really. All this with the new NVidia beta drivers and no other apps running apart from MSI Afterburner. Strange behaviour indeed.

This is an incredible game and I really want to get into it but I am going to have to wait a while for a patch or spend even more time searching the net for a solution. Also, as the OP says, there are many, many people with similar problems.

If you have an nvidia card and want to play this game smoothly, Uninstall the nvidia 3d drivers. Ya it makes a huge differnce.

That's the usual problem you run into when you build a first game engine from scratch. There's bound to be performance issues, it's unavoidable with the wide spectrum of hardware available. Personally i'm running that game on GTX460 1GB and quite dated for nowadays standards Core 2 Quad and had no major issues on high setting (with ubersampling off) except one single part of the game.
That said im running the GoG version as opposed to retail one, which apparently suffers from SecuROM forced by publishers for some odd reason. From what CDP guys said, the publishers decided to force the SecuROM at very late stage of production and they didn't have enough time to properly test it.
The workaround is to obtain the GoG version .exe file which apparently is OK according to some CDP reps if you actually do own the game.

Would only effect initial load times when you boot the game up afaik. I can't see why it would be active during gameplay.

No bloody idea either since im far from being tech genius but read lots of reports of people form guru3d and neogaf saying that their framerate improved by 10-20 fps by just changing the .exe file.

This isn't a review, I'd put that in the review section.

This is a complaint I've yet to see voiced on here.

This is a PC game for the PC Master Race, I'm well aware and take pride in that.

This Game is one of the funnest and hardest games I have ever played.

This Game is stunningly beautiful in ever sense of the word.

This game runs like a fucking console port. Thats my issue, I understand that this game has a huge requirement, but with a GTX 580, one would think I could run at least above med range settings, but no, this game is highly un-optimized, sure it could all be fixed with the next driver update, or game patch, but the point being that if the game boasts Nvidia and PC's in general, you'd think they'd get their shit together make game the game run smoothly. I really love this game, but playing it in a slideshow is irritating in the least. I know the first one had issues with he cinematics being un-optimized, but this is the entire game. Don't tell me its just me, google "poor Performance on High-end rigs on Witcher 2." Honestly, I'm not that pissed, but when people herald this as the reason why the PC is better, i can't help but think of these issues. If any of you have any words of wisdom on how to get it run better, much thanks, but the point remains, if these issues exist, it surely can't be the best thing PC has to offer.
- Install v275.27 Beta drivers
- Deinstall 3D Vision Driver part
- Disable Ubersampling
- gaze in wonder

I did 1, 3, and 4 before I made this thread, I have a 3D set up, and I feel that I should be able to play it in that respect, 1 and 3 do marvels no doubt, but something inside the jail is bugged or something, cause the game goes to shit there.

Don't blame the game, Blame the Freaking DRM, Some people actually switched the EXE with GOG's Version of the game and it Works WAYYYY better... and you can play the game high without the dam DRM and Shudders.

The manual is not a good tutorial. Its just a manual.
Right, it's a: manual n. 1. A tome in which all the answers reside. It doesn't need to be a tutorial, because if you've read it then you won't need a tutorial.

To which I would counter that all the relevant info on how to play the game is also in your journal. I tend to agree with the author of this review [http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/pc/2011/05/17/the-witcher-2-review/1]'s assessment that giving players the info they need without shoving it down their throats, and expecting them to figure things out themselves from there on out equates to a beautiful sense of freedom and agency that "tutorial sections" all too often lack entirely, and it's an approach to design that's carried over to the rest of the game as well.

i play on high with the ubersampling off and i get pretty steady frame rates. i've had a choppy occasion or two, but for the most part it is smooth sailing.
