I have a feeling this has probably been done, but I didn't see it, so oh well. Basically, this is somewhere where you can blurt out your thoughts on the Avengers without worrying about spoiling it for someone else. Let me make this clear: if you have not seen the Avengers, stay out of this thread.

Ahem.

Now that that's out of the way

COULSON, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty much the same reaction as I did, about Phil, but my wife pointed out an interesting possibility on the way home.

He might not be dead.

Nick Fury is a manipulative twat, he pretended those cards were in his pocket and outright lied to the Avengers, I think he'd be more than capable of faking Phil's death to ensure their cooperation.

Did ANY theater not explode in uproarious laughter and applause when Loki's big verbal lashing of the INCREDIBLE FREAKING HULK ended quite badly for him? I thought so. That kind of scene isn't exactly uncommon, but it was just amazingly well done. I didn't hear what Hulk said to Loki afterward I was laughing so hard!

That, plus Hulk's casual punching of Thor right after they just took a leviathan down makes me declare Hulk to be the funniest character in the whole movie. Followed closely by Tony.

Also this:

Thor: Be careful how you speak of Loki! He is of Asgard and he is my brother!!
Black Widow: He killed 80 people in 2 days.
Thor: ... He's adopted.
I've never seen a single Joss Whedon work before this movie, so I always wondered why people go nuts over him. Now I know. Is ALL of his stuff like this? I may have to check them out if they are!

So, it's like this, that, this, that, and then BOOM! and like, omg it's that guy, and that and then there's this scene where these things happen, and BOOM!!! Explosions, explosions, explosions, then the guy who's that guy with red in his outfit hits the other guy and it's like, 'bazow' then there all brawling and it's like: "pow", "kazow", "whammy", "Biff", "Marty", then stuff happens and the character who wins is the character that won.

I hope that gives you an idea, without spoiling it.

Yeah like many people I was upset over the death of Agent Coulson.
However his death serve a purpose to impact the group well except for Banner I guess. What I'm getting at was that Thor, Tony and the recent Steve (turning out that he was a big fan of him) knew him personally since he was like the bridge that connected their films together to bring the Avengers (well that and connection).

Also that scene with the camera moving around showing what each of the member were doing (Hulk and Thor took out those gaint fish thing together while Hawkeye still sniping them with his arrow and etc) is my favourite scene in the enire movie.

I'm curious about what the Hulk said as well, but that certainly was an awesome beatdown.

Overall a great movie. My only complaint is that the Hulk didn't say much (not Banner of course). At least a "Hulk SMASH!" would have done (and that line got stolen by Cap), but I always smile a little inside at the simplistic names that the Hulk gives to all the various supers in the comics.

EDIT: Also, the rumor mills are speculating that Coulson might come back as Vision. I'm not sure what to think about that...

Great movie but I'm still pissed off Ant-Man wasn't involved. Oh well one can dream.

But as much as I loved it I have a feeling it's going to to turn people into comic book geniuses, ya know, cos it's the cool thing right now. Not that it's a hugely bad thing but it will be irritating.

Also I have a awesome feeling the infinity gauntlet will be used in the next one, so that's gonna be badass.

You'll also notice near the stat that when the Jeep and helicopter crashed, there were no incendiary explosions.
That actually took me by surprise. I guess I'm so used to seeing things exploding randomly in action movies that I was taken aback by it. It actually made the whole movie for me because I went in expecting a popcorn film but when that happened (or didn't) it made me realise this wasn't just another action movie.

Captcha: Lunch Tuesday? Well anyone?

This movie has done both Bruce Banner and The Hulk the greatest justice in their cinematic history. My favourite quote of the entire movie has to be Bruce Banner just before he Hulks out and takes down a leviathan in one punch:

"That's my secret, Captain. I'm always angry."

I may have felt bad for Banner before, but that right there really made me feel for the guy. Just before the Hulk turned that around and made him awesome.

Everything else was great too, obviously. And I feel that they utilized the entire cast of characters fairly well. Definitely made them feel like they came together in the end.

Oh man, it was better than I dared hope. Whedon was an amazing choice for it, he's always been great at group dynamics and interactions, at making something fun and serious at the same time, and his tone was perfect for the movie. And the best line from Banner in cinematic history, "I'm always angry". I feel no shame in describing that moment as epic.

But yeah, some amazing quotes apart from the one above, the best have already been mentioned in this thread. The fight scenes were fantastic, I loved seeing how naturally it seemed to see the Avengers dividing into teams. Thor and Hulk tearing shit apart, Hawkeye spotting and sniping, Iron Man (with the occasional assist from Thor) containing the battle and keeping the air support busy, Cap and Widow taking care of things on the ground level. Yeah, I've seen the movie twice, the second time only yesterday and I already want to see it again. I was expecting a great movie, what I got was a movie that will be very hard to top for my movie of the year.

I'm just as excited about what the sucess of this movie could mean for the other Marvel movies. Will we see Banner in Iron Man 3? I doubt we'll see the Hulk, but even just seeing Banner working with Stark would be an awesome moment. Or once everyone is eased into it we could see a duo in a movie or something. Which would be wonderful. It does sound like Marvel aren't going to just separate it all again, apparently Cap 2 will be him working with S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm rambling, basically I'm hoping once Marvel ease the audience into a continuity thing it'll become permanent, instead of just throwing everyone together for an Avengers movie every few years.

No spoilers, but it was definitely the best superhero movie I've ever seen. I've seen it twice already, and will probably see it a third.

One of the few movies where there was actual applause for one scene; namely when the Hulk tosses around Loki like the little ***** he is......and it was fucking awesome.

I have been waiting for this movie ever since the massive surprise scene at the end of Captain America, but as it drew nearer, I became more and more afraid to actually see it. As Movie Bob has said countless times, a movie like this is SO easy to get terribly wrong.
But Joss Whedon nailed it, and the casting on all fronts was perfect. Mark Ruffalo is finally the man to get Bruce Banner right, all the other actors (not to forget the costume designers) did the impossible job of making some of the oddest costumed heroes look - not just like their comic counterparts - but actually really cool in live action.
And the humour and action and character dynamics were all spot-on. I've never laughed so hard during an action movie than I did last night at the "Puny God" scene, I've never cheered in a movie as many times as I did, and I certainly have never been a part of an audience that was so enthusiastic and into a movie than the one I was in to see The Avengers.
I would definitely call this my favourite superhero movie of all time. Kudos to everyone for getting it perfect.

Not only that, but Whedon and Gregg said in separate interviews that Coulson would survive the movie, and neither is really the lying type. Now it COULD just be an example of Whedon messing with everyone by subverting expectations (Lord knows he's got a history of that) OR your wife's theory could be correct. We won't know for sure until someone comes out and says it, or he comes back in the next movie to provoke some drama. ("You lied to us!" "And it saved the world!")

Anyway, the general consensus among my circle of friends is that Hulk's bit with Loki at the end was the best moment of the movie. I disagree, only because everyone has so many great moments at that point that I'm sure I can't remember them all. Of one thing I am absolutely sure: I LOVE HAWKEYE. If I were a woman or he were gay (and, obviously, if he was real) I'd frigging marry the guy.

And damn you, Whedon for making all of the leads so adorable in their moments of emotional weakness. Cap is just so adorkable, I'm pretty sure about half the girls in the audience just wanted to cuddle with him. (As opposed to when we went to see Captain America, when they were all drooling over him.)

Best Marvel movie I've seen so far. Joss Whedon should be their first point of call for all future projects.
I was getting worried that Stan Lee wasn't going to make his obligatory cameo, but there it was right at the end.
I hope the Deadpool movie will be just as good.

Oh and I left the theatre as soon as the credits started, did anyone bother staying till after the credits and see if there was a "bonus scene" afterward?
