They're dying? I work at one and this is the first I've heard of it. But anyway... Yay! Burn you deamon hellspawn!
What he said...
Edit: Although i would be jumping for joy with glee if they closed down, me, and my dad would be out of a job. I just couldn't imagine the Aussie Woolies carkin' it. Would it mean that all the division stores (Dick Smith, Dan Murphy's Liqour, Big-W) would also slump, maybe even bite the dust?

Woolworths os closing down!?
Where on earth will I go to buy overpriced Dr. Pepper when all the other shops are slightly further away? Where will I go to laugh at the overpriced, poor selection of games and music? Where will I go to wander aimlessly around before deciding that everything in the shop is shit and there is nothing worth buying and leave disgusted? Where will I go to keep me warm on a cold winters day and taunt the giant stuffed Pandas?
On reflection... I will miss the last one.

Yeah, I care not for Woolworths as each year it is the first company to load up the TV with endless Christmas adverts and bring forth the inevitable depression and anger that is assosiated with this awful time of the year. Maybe, with its departure I will learn to not despise christmas and I may even start watching TV again...

Wasn't that Northern Rock bank a 'lame duck'? ;/
Thats different. Theyll get more votes for saving voters savings (or lack of them given how determined to live a life of debt we all are) than they will for saving a retail chain with a popular image but obvious lack of customers :) Theyll have thought long & hard & decided they wont convert enough voters to be worth the costs. That & once you start nationalisng commercial/retail business' your opening up a whole can of worms coz alot of them are gonna go to s**t over the next couple years.

...Good Bye Woolworths You Prick
Why post like this? Also, the content is terrible.

Woolworths stuck to diversified selling even when it had clearly had it's day (late 80's). That's why they're going under. Jack of all trades, Master of none. They had a good run though. 99 years. Used to by my Star Wars figures there.

Wow, Woolworths is huge in Australia. I can't imagine them going under. If they die off then all we have to contend with are the Coles-Myer group, and I've never had as satisfactory a shopping experience in their stores whether it be video games or groceries.
Woolworths sells games? I live in Australia too but i've never heard of them selling games.

Ah, I see, so when they said "Government policy is not to prop up lame ducks" what they actually meant was "Government policy is not to prop up lame ducks unless it means people will vote for us."

The country's going down the shitter, the economy of the world is in tatters and our government is too busy arguing with itself to try to get anything done.

Thor bless Humanity.

Did anyone here, PCWorld and Dixons may be the next to go, they have reported massive losses.
Oh Jesus, now where will I go to play a free display game for three hours then leave and buy it from Gamestation instead ?
Still, they usually have good prices so I hope they don't close.

Wooworths going down? Possibly in the UK but i live in Australia and work at a Woolworths (know as Safeway in Melbourne but soon to be changing). It is growing at a rapid rate. I hear of new stores opening, new technology in the stores. Unfortunately our Woolworths don't sell games but Big W (I think the W stand for Woolworths) is owned by Woolworths and do. There is no way Woolworths will go down in Australia though unless the evil Aldi take control :p

\o/ True to form Gordon Brown has stepped in [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7751714.stm] to make a completely pointless promise to the employees whome he cares about so very, very much.
