Well, I was playing RE2 for PC a couple years ago, using the "backwards mode," and I round this corner, and STALL THE MOTHERFUCKING BALL!!! GIANORMASPIDER RIGHT THERE! My voice probably did a four octave jump. It was friggin awesome. Scared the pants off of me, and that's just what the fuck playing a horror game is all about, right?!?!

And then there was when I was 10 years old, playing Duke Nukem 3D on the Family Computer... Mmmmmm... Red Light District... Yeah... I got grounded SO hard for that.

But probably my most WOAH THIS IS SO AWESOME moment in gaming... Actually GETTING Super Tails in Sonic 3/And Knuckles. That shit was SO hard, but SO worth it! You have to get ALL the Chaos Emeralds, and ALL the SUPER Emeralds, just so he can go SUPER. By THAT time, Sonic AND Knuckles are both HYPER. Granted, Hyper Sonic kicks MAJOR ASS.

In the original quake, in certain Deathmatch maps, players spawn points would start to coincide right ontop of eachother, leading to HILARIOUS "gib fountains" as the whole map started dying, spawning in the same spot, and telefrag anyone who was standing there, and then they respawn and telefrag you.

The end result is just hundreds of giblets and a crashed server.
Hahahahaha!

One word. Homeworld.

Added context. "No-one's left. Everything's gone. Kharak... is burning."
This. You've only really just begun playing, but it hits you hard. Manly tears, and then an animal cry of rage when they took out one of the pallets full of sleeping colonists.

I'll also be fair and say the nuke scene in MW1 (this was the first time they did the slow down epic explosion thing they packed into at least once ever ten minutes in the fail that was MW2) was one of my favourites. Saw it hit and I was sad...but then you actually PLAY as the soldier dying from radiation sickness as he hopelessly tries to stumble to safety. I just couldn't believe they actually did it...it had the exact effect they were shooting for, and boy did I give the enemies hell when I got control of the brits in the next mission!

I just want to echo whoever said Eternal Darkness. The first time my character's insanity made the game 'crash' and reset to the title screen was something truly sublime.

FFVII's cutscenes were generally full of WOAH! moments as well. Mainly because I'd never really seen anything like them, and they were something of a differnence from the old FF games' graphics, I tell you what! Sephiroth in general was just a brilliant character.

Playing in Venice in Assassin's Creed 2 for the first time, about a week after returning from there on holiday. It was so brilliantly modelled that I actually managed to find my hotel and spent about four hours just killing everyone in sight who dared come near it :D

GTA3. Just in general. Getting into a mafia car, sticking on the classical station and just causing absolute mayhem.

Super Probotector (aka Super Contra) - the first boss (the giant radioactive turtle thing). Made me think "This game is going to kick my ass!" and it did! Repeatedly!

Resident Evil (the first one) - that corridor. You know the one. You walk down it three or four times with nothing happening, but the music telling you something should be. You're nervous as hell, but you begin to relax. Then you walk down it one more time and suddenly some bastards come crashing through the windows. I screamed like a lady.
