Before I start, I am a guy and also not in the least sexist but do you think the feminists of today have more of a bad reputation than they did a hundred years ago? I mean before women had a right to vote they worked through blood, sweat and tears to get equality and now you have some women who insult you for kindly opening the door for them. This has rarely happened to me but post opinions, experiences etc on feminism.

I've never had the pleasure of encountering an extreme feminist.

I think they do more harm than good. I know one used to drink in my sisters local until she got into a heated debate with my sister over her letting my brother in law pay for everything (it was my sisters birthday, he took her out for a drink) so my sister beat the shit out of her.

Thats as close as i've come to one.

Thats about as close as i'd like to ever get.

Oh hold on, I tell a lie.

I read an article from some feminist that claimed all men support rape.

http://evebitfirst.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/a-man-is-a-rape-supporter-if/

Now that is a woman with clear issues.

Feminism is way to broad of a term to use in this context. Reading your post I assume you're talking about the kind of feminists that advocate female superiority rather than equality.
I have no problem with feminism myself, as a guy, and still feel that emancipation isn't exactly complete, BUT, sometimes the two-sidedness can get on my nerves, be it not being allowed to/getting scolded for hitting back a girl to still demanding courtesies like opening doors/paying drinks/etc dispite wanting to be treated no differently that guys.

Bottom line, feminism is okay, but it can be taken too far

No. A hundred years ago they were ridiculed, insulted and considered to be deviants whose demand for basic rights went against everything a woman was supposed to be. If anything, the reputation of feminism has improved enormously.

Most of which have pretty clearly defined roots in the society we live in.

I wouldn't agree with her wording, but it takes a certain degree of reactionary denial to pretend there is nothing wrong with the prevalence of rape in our society and certain people's attitudes towards it.

Those aren't feminists you described. Them bitches are probably misandrists that mistaken that for feminism, which to some extent is giving feminism a bad name.

Hell yes. The problem is though, people today seem to have a hard time separating individuals from groups. We see people acting crazy under a label, people will generally avoid and outright insult those who wear that label.

I guess the best picture to describe it would be this:

For simplicity's sake I'll post the same comment here.

I think this picture sums it up:

Now its less rights and more cultural stigma. Perhaps we have the same legal rights but there are still social constraints that paint both sexes and can lead to very unfortunate missunderstandings. That is what should be talked about now. Every day respect and equality.

RAGE! I dont like people who go to the extreme anyway, I hate it more when It makes my side of the race seem selfish, picky and a little stupid. *sigh* rage over :) @SpaceArcader I totally know what you mean, we seem to take it for granted.

If you complain in the slightest about sexism you get the label of feminazi slapped on you in no short order.
A lot of guys just use it to win an argument nowadays, I have noticed, it's kind of lame.

There are feminists who go to far but then they clearly aren't feminists. Feminists want female equality which in turn means men will be equal to women. Equality works both ways.

If something doesn't fit the criteria for a label then it isn't one of those things. For example... vampires who sparkle in sunlight, clearly not vampires... :p

And then the folks who have an ax to grind with feminism go after them as some sort of mainstream, introducing them to the world as feminists. It's pretty much the definition of knocking down a strawman (sorry, Strawwoman) in the name of social gain.

I'm confused. Are you saying that picture is misogynist?
Yeah, basically..

The "good (passive) woman"/"bad (aggressive) woman" dichotomy has plagued popular discussion about feminism since it's very inception. The image you've just used is a perfect example.

Beyond the fact that it's just basic neurotic rabbling.

So what, you're the wolf then?
Considering I'm a man, I'll take that as a compliment.

I think too many people, including some feminists themselves, confuse feminism and misandry. Misandrists give feminists a bad name but they're two different things really.

Go educate on what the term "feminism" means, and then come back to this thread.

The wolf is portrayed as bad not because she is aggressive, but because of her belief that she is superior to men when they should be equals.
