Well, say it however you want, that's my point.Coppernerves said:Wait... I thought Samus Aran was pronounced SAH-mus A-rantorno said:I'm not sure if this is a mispronunciation but not one will ever convince me to say Samus's name as anything other than
sam-is uh-ran
I know there's SAH-mus and AIR-in but that's how *I* pronounce it, I just think it sounds cooler.
I also pronounce Zebes as
zee-bis
as opposed to zeh-bis or zee-bees, that last one I almost NEVER hear anyway.
I've been mispronouncing Aran all this time! I don't even know whether it's her surname or birth name, because Nintendo's Japanese! Their families come before themselves!
Thanks for pointing that out. Ill pronounce Xin right from now on and correct my friends when they say "Zin", yeah I'm pretentious like that. The Wykydtron said:I agree with his pronounciation of Akali and Xin though. Xin because fuck the mainstream it's pronounced as it's written not Zin haterzzzzzzzz and Ack-ali not A-karli like every one else seems to think.
Wait, how DO you pronounce Xin then? X in the phonetic alphabet is a velar fricative, so sort of a phlegmy 'h' sound?Mojo said:Thanks for pointing that out. Then when I played Other M I found out it was supposed to be pronounced Z-eh-b-eh-s and Tout-ian respecivly, but fuck you Other M, I'm going to keep pronouncing it Zee-bees.

By the time the Megadrive came around the damage was done literally everyone was pronouncing it the wrong way, If ya said it right it sounded funny.gmaverick019 said:wait...what.RevRaptor said:I remember as a kid everyone mispronounced Sega (Se Ga instead of Say Ga) Was only after the net became a thing that we got to actually hear how it was meant to be pronounced. One of his most annoying ones was pronouncing "turrets" as "turrents".

I would be shocked if anyone could pronounce that without googling it.
I pronounced almost all of these the same way.roushutsu said:A lot of the classic terminology in Final Fantasy I kept mispronouncing until they started applying voice acting and I heard how it's supposed to be pronounced. Such as:
-Eidolon: I was pronouncing it "Ay-doh-lone" / it's actually "Eye-doh-lun"
-Ifrit: "If-ret" / "Eef-rit"
-Bahamut: "Bah-hah-met" / "Bah-hah-moot"
-Mako: "Make-oh" / "Mah-ko"
-Zidane: "Zid-ayne" / "Zid-ahn"
-Lucrecia: "Loo-cree-tia" / "Loo-cret-zia"
Yeah, I still don't get that last one. I get that it's the Japanese pronunciation, but it really doesn't spell the same.
