It's probably a fault of an old Shamus Young Experienced Points column, but I cannot for the life of me read 'GFWL' without seeing the word "FAIL" in there somewhere. Appropriate, non? It's helped by there being a measure of Welsh blood in me.

I know there's SAH-mus and AIR-in but that's how *I* pronounce it, I just think it sounds cooler.
I also pronounce Zebes as

as opposed to zeh-bis or zee-bees, that last one I almost NEVER hear anyway.

I pronounced "Rattata" from pokemon as Rat-uh-tat-uh

Zebes and Tourian from Metroid. I was always pronouncing it Zee-bees and Tour-eh-n respectively.
Then when I played Other M I found out it was supposed to be pronounced Z-eh-b-eh-s and Tout-ian respecivly, but fuck you Other M, I'm going to keep pronouncing it Zee-bees.

There is one thing that I'm still confused on to this day because everyone says it one way or the other.

Is Ubisoft pronounced "oo-bee-soft" or "you-bee-soft"? I've always said the later, but I've heard other people say the former. But then other people also pronounce it the same as me.

And also, how the hell do you pronounce Aya Brea's name from Parasite Eve? I'm wanting to say "I-ah Bree-ah", but that makes it rhyme, which is the number one thing to avoid when naming characters for anything.

For a while when we first started reading the Harry Potter books, my family and I pronounced Hermione as "Hermy-own". Since this was before the movies and that scene in Book 4 where Hermione corrects Krum on the pronunciation of her name (a scene probably aimed directly at people like us), we kept at it until someone corrected us.

Not on the master system there weren't dude. Maybe you are too young to remember that. By the time the Megadrive came around the damage was done literally everyone was pronouncing it the wrong way, If ya said it right it sounded funny.
Also what kind of nut would pronounce it like that vid, SEGGGGGAAAAAAA that was no good guide to how to pronounce it at all.

Lessee, I used to pronounce Chocobo as "Chu-CAW-boh" (proper: CHOH-koh-boh)
Djinni (from Golden Sun, didn't realize it was a real thing outside of it for a while) as "duh-GIN-ee" (proper: JEE-nee, westernized as genie)
I still pronounce Samus' last name as "uh-RAN" rather than the widely accepted "Air-run" (in my defense, I have a brother named Aaron, the proper way of spelling than name, so it's hard for me to accept the "new" spelling)

Also I noticed a couple of people having trouble with "ae" words, like Aether and Aegis. In most of the world, yes, the ae is pronounced "ee", but in the US the "AY" pronunciation is the accepted norm. For this reason, several words that use ae are clipped, like the u in honour or colour. These include Aether (to Ether), Paedophile (to Pedophile), and others. It really seems more related to the accent than anything else.

I always would (and still do) pronounce 'deku' as 'doo-koo' it's the way everyone I knew for a long time pronounced it. Then I heard someone say 'deck-oo' I've also heard 'dee-koo' I still like 'doo-koo' the best though.

I used to know an idiotic guy who managed to mispronounce at least one thing in every game.

One of his most annoying ones was pronouncing "turrets" as "turrents".

Oh for fuck sake that used to piss me off, too . I don't know why, but hearing someone say that used to just make me want to punch them in the face and scream "THERE IS NO 'N' IN TURRET!" One guy even spelled it that way, regardless of the fact that spell check would tell him otherwise. I nearly said "oh, you fucking idiot" out loud in a crowded room when I read that. What was worst, though, was the fact that this was an otherwise intelligent person.

I was just giving evidence to the game saying sega when it was turned on. And no, I didn't go around pronouncing it segggaaaa, that was just a long overdrawn way of saying "seg-ahh".

EDIT - OT: The PS2 series Onimusha. I adopted my brothers pronunciation, and never read the case until about 2 months ago. We were pronouncing it Oni-mo-shu-ah... I have no clue why.

A lot of the classic terminology in Final Fantasy I kept mispronouncing until they started applying voice acting and I heard how it's supposed to be pronounced. Such as:

-Eidolon: I was pronouncing it "Ay-doh-lone" / it's actually "Eye-doh-lun"
-Ifrit: "If-ret" / "Eef-rit"
-Bahamut: "Bah-hah-met" / "Bah-hah-moot"
-Mako: "Make-oh" / "Mah-ko"
-Zidane: "Zid-ayne" / "Zid-ahn"
-Lucrecia: "Loo-cree-tia" / "Loo-cret-zia"

Yeah, I still don't get that last one. I get that it's the Japanese pronunciation, but it really doesn't spell the same.

I pronounced almost all of these the same way.

Except with "Eidolon" I said "Ay-doh-lawn"

And I remember hearing Lucrecia's name before I played FFVII, so I kinda knew how it was supposed to be pronounced.

I still like to mostly use my pronunciations though. I guess it's a personal thing.
