I for one don't generally take to heart a lot of things. I in fact blow off most things people say to me for one reason or another. I'm not person who looks down on advice, but rather, a realist.

What is the one thing someone has said to you that has suck with you for life? Everyone has something.

For me, well, my dad and I understand each other but we don't have a lot of meaningful conversations and such. I for one will never forget what he told me before I left for college my freshman year.

He said, "Earn This," "Just like in Saving Private Ryan before Captain Miller got killed." "Earn this." "Earn what I am giving you, earn what you are about to embark upon, Earn This."

Till this very day, nothing has had a larger impact upon my life. I know it's comparing life to a movie, but the way he said it and his timing I will never forget.

So Escapists, what's your most memorable quote for you life?

My most personal quote "Shit Happens."

Another good one is what a co-worker said to me "Everything is hilarious"

My motto (although I got it from somewhere but I shortened it and can't remember who siad it :/)

"Friends are won by many actions and lost by one."

I live by this. I have lost many friends to such simple actions even when it took all that time to build the relationships. This motto for me is like a reminder to keep my friends as close as possible.

"Practice doesn't make perfect, it only makes you better."

A common quote that a lot people have said to me, only, altered............a bit.

Ohh, I like that one.

I would like to pick one from Oryx & Crake: "I think, therefore."
But the one I really live by is "Don't do to someone else what you wouldn't want someone else to do to you."

Seriously, if everyone followed that rule life would be fuckin' sweet.

I made up my life motto a few months ago:

Live your life like God gave you a Mad Libs book but forgot to fill in anything other than the articles and the punctuation marks.

Also this:

Never offend people with style when you can offend them with substance. ~Sam Brown

Ahh, my badminton coach taught me that one. I think he used to say.

It's not practice makes perfect, it's perfect preactice makes."

So practice makes you good but perfect practice makes you great. Somthiing like that, it sounded better when he said it :/

Keep Calm and Carry On. Not actually said to me, it's a perfectly simple and infinitely useful line of wartime propaganda from a series of unused posters in World War II. The story, true or otherwise, is that someone found all this disused posters with just this simple line and a picture of the crown, and released the design as merchandise - posters, shirts, mugs, keyrings, all sorts, so people always have this brilliant motto to keep them going. I personally love it, I think it sums up a great deal of British spirit, as well as being useful for any situation.

"Eh; well, what are ya gonna do?" A great way of handling troubles. Much better than trying to keep a positive ttitude. I have troubles enough as it is, and I have no need to try to regard horrible past experiences as something positive, thank you very much.
And this one:

"You know That Guy. He takes two parking spaces to protect his paint job. He races past the pregnant lady to grab the last seat on the train. He sends back his steak and undertips. He drives on the shoulder all the way to the front of the traffic jam, then bullies his way back into line. He sees all of this as evidence that he's cleverer than the rest of us suckers. That That Guy.

Don't be that guy."

I have two, they're famous-ish quotes

"I wish I could throw off the thoughts which poison my happiness. And yet I take a kind of pleasure in indulging them."

"Simplicity is the highest goal, achievable when you have overcome all difficulties. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art."

Both from Frederic Chopin, and even though one of them references music, I find it's still applicable.

My Words to Live By:

"Use your aggressive nature. Let the hate flow through you."

"Show no mercy. Do not hesitate, and soon your transformation to the Dark Side will be complete."

Peace is a Lie, there is only Passion.
Through Passion, I gain Strength.
Through Strength, I gain Power.
Through Power, I gain Victory.
With Victory, my Chains are Broken.
Brute Force shall Free me.

I have a few.

"Perception is the mother of deception"

"Beliefs, they are the bullets of the wicked"

And one I just thought of that applies to myself...

"Suffering is inevitable, but not acceptable"
