Well after reading the report I think we can all safely say that it is MUCH better to work for one self. Of course this is not easy and is invariably fraught with financial ruin if you don't work hard enough but considering the kind of pressures exerted on employees in established companies I think its a viable alternative to DYING!

I have severe depression and anxiety. Last year I FINALLY got a Xmas job at a certain store for the Xmas period. I was forced to lie to customers in order to drive up sales of additional items. This was an accepted and encouraged part of the company's sales technique and workers were under ever increasing pressure to increase sales again and again.

I eventually finished my time there for the Xmas period but was so stressed and pressured that I developed a heart condition. I continue to have blackouts where my heart misses beats and fails to pump enough blood to my brain to keep me conscious.

These and many other symptoms are the result of modern societies fast paced, money driven, greed steeped corporate style. With these kind of mental and physical health risks in even the lowest of paid jobs where employees are under increasing pressure you have to ask yourself; Is your health and even your life itself worth your job?

Personally I don't think so. It would be nice if company's would take this into consideration but they wont. Their primary focus always will be the making of money and the ever expanding ideas that drive that need to also expand further. Raising profit margins and grinding employees into the ground.

This kind of shows how dependent people become on technology. People base their entire lives in a hand-held device. I know some people that don't know what they're doing that day unless it's written in their BlackBerry day planner. Sad.

A shitty piece of technology is not worth killing or dying for.

Well that's just stupid. Irrespective of the technology you still shouldn't KILL YOURSELF over a TECH ITEM!
I don't care if it's unreleased. Die because of it?
He didn't kill himself because he lost it. He killed himself because he had his house searched, his property seized, was held in solitary confinement, and beaten while interrogated. This wasn't done by a shady government organization, or corrupt police, or organized criminals, or terrorists: it was done by his employer. That is a hell of a lot to go through and the pressure of massive companies like Apple and Foxconn coming down on your shoulders is certainly enough to make you snap from the stress.

Praise Natural Selection!
The only mistake he made was to lose his iPhone prototype. Then he was tortured into wanting to commit suicide. I fail to see how this makes you cheer that his death removes his "unwanted traits" from society. I'm sure you've lost something important before. You just didn't have the f*cking mafia come after you because of it.

The fact that he lost a phone does not justify his death.
Thank you SuperMse for saying that to the prick comments

The topic name is totally misleading.

It was an iphone prototype and not a common one.
And the article says he was subject to:

"unbearable interrogation techniques"

I doubt many people would feel happy after that experience

Yeah. Apple does some batshit insane things to people who aren't extra super careful with their prototypes.

Seriously, is another iPhone really worth all the trouble? Everyone already knows your making one.
Most leaks happen in China from the manufacturer, a leak like this happens and Apple has threatened to pull the plug, and source to other, more reliable manufacturers. We are talking a huge loss for these businesses. This leads to the companies putting extra pressure on these people to try and recover missing products - most likely sold in many cases. It's not just apple. There have been "suicides" over other products and scandals by people before.

I put emphasis on suicides because I do not remain convinced that all of these are suicides. The suicides started cropping up after it was reviled that people involved in many of these scandals where executed for them.

Anyone else thinking Mitch Henderson?
Heh, that was my first thought as well reading the thread title. Mitchell Henderson v2.0

Though in this case there's a little more at play. Jumping off a building after losing a prototype with a huge amount of money riding on it and consequently being locked up in solitary confinement and "inappropriately interrogated" (and probably losing his job as well) is less of an exaggerated response than killing yourself after losing your favorite toy. Not saying I approve of suicide under any condition, but at least it's more understandable.

I sincerely hope this is some sort of prank.

I hope Apple do something about this. I wouldn't keep buying from a company that allow this kind of shit to happen.
You are damn right, I never bought from them anyway and if this happens I wont buy anymore. And you would think you saw evil on EA and Activision, apparently I haven't seen nothing.

Okay, I read the article (gotta learn to stop just reading headlines... maybe I'm lazy). Now, I'm more afraid of Apple than ever. Their workers fear them (with good reason, apparently =/), and people are addicted to and dependent on their products. How the hell did they do this?
