Our bodies are hard wired to get large and quick in takes of calories. That means fast and fatty foods. It goes against what evolution has taught us to choose a banana over fried chicken(not to mention not to gorge on bananas).

For some people finding the time and energy to go to the gym is just overwhelming, I agree with what a few people have said - just find something active you enjoy rather than forcing yourself to go to the gym.

As far as eating healthy is concerned... yeah, just eat healthier. It's easy and cheaper.

If you're badly out of shape, strenuous exercise is very painful. My advice having been there is to find an exercise you can deal with and do it as much as you can without suffering too much. I started with just walking around for an hour a day, and then bought an elliptical machine, which I now run upon daily.

Eating healthy isn't a problem for me, I like most fruit and vegetables, and dislike large amounts of grease. I also don't like most carbohydrate-heavy foods, like bread, rice or pasta.
I still find it difficult to lose weight though, because I really hate exercise. I find it incredibly boring, and there's always something more sedentary I'd much rather be doing. As well as this, my job is very sedentary, and where I live it's far too goddamn hot to even go outside for nearly half the year.

I've recently started turning my life around, its wonderful.
I don't stick to any diets, i just try to eat healthy.

The only rule i have is hitting the gym everyday except Wednesday.
Works well :)

Not everyone is the same, but if there's one thing everybody has it's flaws. Some things that are easy for you may not be as easy for others. Unless you have the secret to being a flawless human being, I think it's rather unfair and pretentious of you to hold others' flaws against them.

Don't go complaining about how much everyone else's shit stinks. If you do, that probably means yours smells worse.

My favorites are the commercials for some diet pill which promise great weight loss, and specifically instructs you to make no changes to your diet and exercise. There you go, don't lift a finger, just take a pill if you don't want to be fat anymore....It's the (new) American way.

The reason that lose-weight-fast schemes are so popular is because a good number of people had healthy/thin bodies in their youth that stayed thin no matter what they did (whether playing video games on the couch all day or eating an entire large pizza by yourself), but once they hit middle age all that crap caught up with them. Then they're stuck not only with hard-to-break unhealthy habits that have been part of their daily routine their entire lives, but a new disdain for physical or mental effort because it reminds them that things aren't as easy as they once were and they're getting old.

Of course, that's a generalization, but it applies to a good number of the people I've met who buy work-out gadgets off TV or put themselves on ridiculous fad diets.
It's also kind of a dick thing for me to say considering I'm 19 and weigh 108lbs despite not having taken part in any sort of physical activity in years... but I'm sure it'll catch up to me eventually. Check back with me in 10-15 years.

If I gave a crap, it might be easy. However, I prefer to leave it to my god-like metabolism and not bother, because I'm an asshole like that.

As a Personal Trainer in training i can advise you on simple methods to help up your metabolism without going to the gym.

As another person mentioned drink more water, 1 litre per 25 kg body per day, plus another 1 litre per hour of exercise you do.
Try to involve more incidental exercise, when you go to the fridge for water, turn around go back to where you were then go back to the fridge. Put a low stool / dinning chair in front of your TV and stand up / sit down while the ads are on. Park in the middle of the carpark instead of right by the doors at the shopping center ( i dont recommend the edges as i dont know your neighbourhood and it may not be safe ). Really think about things you are doing in your day to day life and try to allow an extra 5 minutes to everything, so you can take the long route when walking somewhere / take the stairs instead of the elevator.
If you crave food, try not to have any for 30minutes, try to find something else to focus on. If you still crave it then have 1 BITE not the whole packet...
Try to eat more fresh vegies, not frozen ones, preferably something you have grown yourself and it is straight of the vine. A still growing vegetable is so much more healthy for you then any frozen / processed one.
Eat more meat, preferably fish or chicken ( free range ). A high protein diet is proven to help speed up your metabolism.
When eating foods remember: Alcohol is burnt first, then Glucose from sugar, then Carbs, then ( stored ) fats, Then proteins. Your body should be using its proteins to repair muscles and such, even in the day to day grind ( wihtout specific exercise ). Proteins are never stored as fat.

So you CAN help yourself even if you dont exercise specifically, you just need to be aware of choosing to help yourself.

It's hard to change your lazy, gluttonous ways when society makes it so damn appealing to feed your face. What's more appealing to a hardcore geek? A 16 player Duke Nukem LAN with a bag of potato chips and a bottle of coke? Or a 16 player D.N. LAN with a banana and a glass of water?

I am a fat geek but I go to the gym. In 2 weeks, I lost a kilogram. In another 2, I lost another. And then another. Excercise is a start. Changing your ways is proof that you're not a waste of oxygen and that you're willing to sacrifice certain comforts - like fatty foods and lounging around all day - for your health.

Running (especially from March to early November when its not too cold to run on the beach) is the highlight of my day. Running on the beach is so peaceful and I always get that wonderful runner's high. My strength training is more lax (basically just push-ups and variations of crunches), but have a naturally muscular physique so I really don't need to do much there.

As far as eating healthy goes...it's really not that hard. People say its expensive to eat healthy, but it really isn't. If you make your own food rather than eat out and cut down on portion sizes (if you live in the West, you probably eat wayyy too large portions), then it's reasonably cheap. What bugs me is when the people who go out of their way to be stocked up on Doritos and other unnecessary junk food complain about the cost of healthy food. Seriously? Even ignoring all that extra you spend on junk, if you eat like that for long enough, you'll pay for it later.

instant gratification is the name of the game... imagine that... companies will lie to you to get your money... they spend millions researching processing foods.. they isolate compounds to improve taste profiles .. now imagine that you were brought up eating this convenient,taste enhanced carbohydrate food (and remember kids Carbohydrates = comfort) then dress it up with some snappy ad campaign and advertise every 20 minutes on major networks ... commence the Brain washing..

I don't see how it's that hard. I hate exercise and I eat crap. The only difference is I don't eat tons of crap and I'm not extremely lazy. The only difference between crap and healthy food is how much I have to eat to get my energy. With unhealthy food you eat less and get more calories, and I'm not a person who loves to eat so I like eating a little and feeling full. Also when it comes to exorcise I just do some of the basic things, take the stairs instead of elevators or since work is only two miles away I ride my bike there in summer.

Why do people look for all of these quick weight loss ways rather than just doing it the right way?

I don't seem to have a problem with healthy diet and exercise. Despite how much of a nerd I am, I still manage to fit in frequent exercise and a healthy meal.
