Ok so I am what would politely be called a fat bastard and after many months of procrastination I am finally starting to exercise to rectify this.

Yet I find my current library of music to be greatly lacking in any kind of montage style encouragement.

So can you fine people recommend me some good exercise music to help me terrify the fat off my body.

Depends on your workout and preferred music choices. I love a bit of rock, punk and metal, plus I'm on a rowing team, so I've tailored mine pretty specifically.

Need to get pumped? Anything by Sabaton ( try Masters Of The World) or Hatebreed (I Will Be Heard and In Ashes They Shall Reap are particular favourites) will do just that. Slayer are also pretty damn good for lifting. I also use a combination of them for my 2k test on the erg (rowing machine), a fast enough drumbeat to smash it to and angry lyrics to help you push.

For cardio, I'm only really used to cycling, which I do outside and have no music for safety on the roads, or the erg again, where I've found Ramones can help keep you between rate 18 and 24 for long sessions to build stamina. Naturally, out on the river I wouldn't risk my iPod to the weather and water, plus I need to hear what the coach is yelling at me.

As for your weight loss goals, I don't know what you've got in mind, but once you've got the technique down, most Concept rowing machines have a setting for 500m sprints with a 60 second rest, try not to drink or stop in the rest; just slow right down to recover, without feeling the pain of stopping completely. Do that frequently, around 2pm if you can for maximum effect (apparently), and you'll be well on your way, it's what I did and do, and while there hasn't been much weight loss, the muscle:fat ratio has definitely changed. Plus you get ridiculous legs. Everyone loves good legs.

Edited with song names and fabulous photo.

I don't use music for helping me with my workouts, but this song may set your legs on fire!

SPOILER WARNING: If you don't want to hear the legendary battle music yet in Pokemon X and Y, don't listen to this!

As for suggestions on losing weight, I certainly have a few considering I used to be overweight. Now I'm in great shape, all with the help of a few simple rules.

1. Start with smaller portions, don't starve yourself that won't work.

2. Start easy with exercising, don't start sprinting, if you are too hard on yourself, you'll hate working out too much to want to continue.

3. Always challenge yourself. While I suggested going easy on yourself, you'll want to keep running longer, lifting heavier etc. If you get that impulse, do it, but stay in your limit.

4. Be patient, it took me a long time to get to my desired weight, but it is worth it!

The song Call On Me by Eric Prydz... I always listen to this song whenever I do my routine sit-ups, push-ups, and the occasional running on my neighbor's treadmill... Plus, I would sometimes try to mimic the moves used in the music video version, since it takes place at a fitness center... It helps with my "flexibility", per se...

Well, personally Rise Against usually gets me in the mood.

I had to include 3 songs, but I feel that's nowhere near enough.

There's also Thousand Foor Krutch if you want something a little more mainstream.

Thousand Foot Krutch got a whole lot of variation. There's even some horrible techno remixes if you like that. I won't link it though, I am barely able to accept that they exist.

The Killing Tree is the hardest among what I recommend, but it's probably my favourite band right now.

There's also Anti-Flag if that's not your kind of music.

Also some advice on the exercise itself. Start light, try walking or jogging unless you plan to join a gym. The important thing is to not strain yourself to the point of getting sore muscles. It can be hard to keep up the routine, but after a while you'll see that it's almost unnatural not to get at least some exercise done.

I would recommend lifting weight and build muscles because that will increase your BMR (the metabolic rate while resting). It also won't put as much strain on you as jogging because it's impact free. Don't worry about quick results, they'll come if you manage to keep it up. Try getting a little cardio done before or after other exercise, but pace yourself so you won't get back or feet pains.

I go for fast paced metal / rock
But that's just me, something that gets me "pumped"
If you want a few good ones just tel me, for me the intro needs to be a good one, that starts the whole thing!

Soundtracks from 80's martial arts movies are great:

Older Van Damme movies had great soundtracks.

I've been quite happy working out to the main theme from Pacific Rim:

I like to play that on a loop when I'm doing my weightlifting. Makes you feel like you can bench-press a Kaiju.

Pretty much anything by Dragonforce also works.
