USA and England were picked to face off against each other in the first game of group C.

Should be a heated game.

Your thoughts?

If England doesn't win, they're idiots.

Seriously, all kudos to the States but we play 50 games a year minimum. It'd be like asking whether England would win Gridiron against the States.

I suggest we just talk about the whole world cup draws here to be honest, but yeah should be a good game [small]for England[/small]

Scotland isn't in the world cup so i'm going for Algeria and Netherlands(also the last thing a scotsman wants is for England to do good in the world cup:p)

Lol do people still like football? Damn that stuff is boring to watch.
True, but also strangely attracting when your own team does good. Netherlands FTW.

As far as FIFA goes, England has my vote. (Not that I am biased or anything)

Then again during the cricket world cup of 2007, Ireland beat Pakistan..and ever since then I do believe in:

a) The luck of the Irish
b) Miracles

That said, it's highly improbable that the US will do anything to impress me (unless it's an entirely irish-US team). So it's business as usual.

England should win, but quite frankly I wouldn't put a loss past them.

...It's the most popular sport in the world. Where do you live? Mars?

Ten bucks says ESPN beats the living shit out of the Revolutionary War metaphors, especially if the US keeps it interesting.

The Americans have the highest ceiling and lowest floor at the same time. On the one hand, they could go 0-3 in group play and get humiliated. On the other, Jozy Altidore is a beast in international play and could singlehandedly get them to the quarterfinals, and Landon Donovan (MLS Cup aside) is one of the best spot-kick takers in all of world football.

I'm going to predict a Round of 16 finish since Algeria and Slovenia don't exactly have me quaking in my boots as a Yank football fan, but playing Group D's winner (likely Germany) will be the end of the line for the Americans.

That's a shame. I really would have liked to see one of the other British teams get through, or even (gasp) the Republic of Ireland!

But yeah, if we (England) don't win comfortably then we should be quite ashamed. Also, for anyone who watched the draw. Did you find that woman really annoying? The one who helped with the draw.

Why our my fellow Americans so low on ourselves?

We beat Spain and took Brazil down to the wire this summer. We have a legit shot.
