As a Scotsman it pains me a bit to say this but....England probably have there best chance ever of lifting the cup again this year. that being said there game against USA will be a belter cos the US team has got steadily better over the years as a result of a lot of top players competing in the Premier league and in Europe coupled with the recent popularity of MLS.

Im probably going for Germany or Spain as a wee outside bet.

It'll either be Australia or Italy.

Australia: I live there, and if I don't I'll get the shit beaten outta me at school.

Italy: My dad's Italian all the way, and he followed them, along with my brother when Australia got beaten.

So I'm kinda stuck on a particularly spiky fence here.
AND IT HURTS!

We will be supporting England in my house... until they get knocked out. And then it's a free for all! My partner is used to the grim disappointment (being a Middlesborough fan), I don't even like football that much and will lose interest pretty quickly, and our housemate will just sneer derisively and say something about all footballers being thugs.

I'll be supporting England, as I always do. It'll happen for sure this year, I know it...
I also like to see Ireland do we... wait, dammit France. (I gotta say, I thought France should've been disqualified and replaced by Ireland, not that that would ever happen. Oh well, guy can dream...)

Have you seen the way Russia lost to Slovenia in the qualifications.
So, yeah, World Cup is a painful topic for us. But not for me. I predicted the whole fucking thing.
I'm probably supporting Germany or France and rooting wholeheartedly against Italy (sorry, Italians, I have reasons).

Lest go Australia! Lets not get slaughtered!
Well, last time they got through the group stage, and then lost 1:0 to Italy after a controversial penalty, I think it's hardly "getting slaughtered".
And there is the reason why I'm rooting against Italy.

I'm supporting Portugal because it's my nation, but Spain has the best team in the world right now. Just hope Portugal doesn't finish second in the group, so we don't face Spain right away

I'll support Australia because they are Australian, and not because I give two shits about soccer.

Spain. They just play such beautiful football. Reckon it's going to be them or Brazil that it.

Supporting England.

But every time we play I end up bellowing at the television. Curse our bloaty bloody midfield and habit of arsing around in the middle of the pitch rather than driving forward. We are not going to beat the aggressive teams who play hard on the break. I don't get why we haven't named a squad yet and used the last two "friendlies" to play the team together - we do have talented players but they don't have good team cohesion because they don't play together enough.

And I can't stand Crouch

And Ferdinand is too knackered.

I don't much like playing Gerrard and Lumpy together.

Our fast wingers do have pace but either there is no one up in support or they don't look up before they cross and waste effort after effort

That's it, I'm gonna go heckle the Eng v Japan.

Eternally suffering England fan here... I do think we have a better chance of winning it than I can ever remember, the squad is probably not as strong as it has been over the last few years but as a team they are playing better than ever.

About to watch the England v Japan friendly, hopefully we'll see some encouraging signs there.

Germany - as one of the few nationalisms I allow myself.

Other than that lets see who plays the best and most fast-paced game this year as I despise long drawn out defensive games. Recalling the European Cup two years ago I'am most curious about the Netherlands who rolled over every opposition in the group round...

I want England to do well (being english) but I really doubt they'll win. Maybe the semis if they start playing as a team.

I got Argentina in a sweepstake with my friends so I'll root for them too.
I also think the most likely final will be Spain v Brazil because of the sheer quality of their players, who are all superstars. And then I think Spain will win-it's really saying something when the likes of Fabregas, Jesus Navas and Valdes don't always make the starting lineup.
