Wow thats... an interesting consolation prize...

My favourite Anime is Porco Rosso, but since it's set in Italy during the rise of fascism leading up to WW2 it wouldn't be such a crash-hot place to live. So I'd need something closer to an utopia. I'm tempted to say Kiki's Delivery Service, since that really was a beautiful town, but instead I'll be boring and say either Ponyo or Spirited Away before she goes down the tunnel.

That way I'm just back in the real world, except it's anime, in today's age, and I can just catch a plane back home.

I realise all my examples are Ghibli, and I don't particularly care.

This kind of topic just - nnnrrrgggh.

OP's basically asking which Anime I like. There. That's more straightforward.

To answer that, I'm a Miyasaki fan. I'd love to see how the design conceits of "Spirited Away" would carry across the pond. North America is still very much steeped in European folklore, so would there be some sort of hotel for Fair Folk lying around? Or would a Western analogue to the movie's bathhouse be something like Hotel Transylvania, just less sucky?

Interesting stuff to consider.
im really not asking what anime you like, this is just a question that was asked of me at work one night and decided to expand on it and see what other people said.

BTW some great answers so far:)

Let's see...

Eureka Seven (post Coralian extinction, pre-Ao)
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds (post Z-One)
Pokemon (during Johto)

ok to clearify a few things;
1.Shows and games that folow the rules of anime are fair game, but be aware you must work to be good at what you do. so while you could be an amazing pilot with a bit of training you would still have to train to become so.(same with bending or magic)
Atelier Meruru!

Oh, I would do anything to serve under Meruru. I really, really goddamn love Meruru.

And I would bring schematics of WW2 military equipment e.g. vehicles, armored vehicles, aircraft, ships, firearms. And a couple of firearms with ammunition, as well.

It would be interesting to see how Arland and Arls would utilize the (destructive) knowledge I would bring.
unless you have all that at your house your kinda soled:(
Ahahahaha, I can get it, though.
lol but you have to have it now
In that case, I only got myself! Like I said I would most definitely serve Meruru.

Maybe I would be her assistant, or something. Kind of like the Homs, but without the sweet costumes.

"Cowboy Bebop".

Because a) personal interstellar spacecraft would be awesome and b) It would be cool to kick it with Spike.

The Big O.

Everyone in the universe is just trying to carve out a slice of existence.... And it can never be destroyed because it just keeps rebooting.

I really don't know why anyone would choose any option other than Pokemon. That world is, in the most literal sense imaginable, heaven. A charming place, filled with delightful creatures. I know people like to come in and ironically read a sense of darkness into it (what with the whole capturing animals and forcing them to fight based economy) but that's because they're cynical people who have lost their sense of childish wonder. The pokemon and humans in the show clearly love each other and are having fun and meaningful experiences, and it's always those people who are exceptions to that rule (IE their Pokemon actually are enslaved, and don't want to do what they say) that are the bad guys.

But I wouldn't even really want to be a trainer (IE: someone who does nothing but running around battling). That whole world... every single job is so delightful. It all revolves around pokemon, and you could just go through your day to day life with your adorable best friend. It's such a charmed world too. Have you ever seen a homeless person in Pokemon? Nope. Not once. Or if you did, they do it by choice, and just wander around exploring the world, again, with their adorable friend. That life would be so charming and perfect. Why would anyone pick anything else? There is no other appropriate answer.
They're shown eating meat. The Pokedex entry for Farfetch'd talks about how tasty it is.

I'm not cynical, there is clearly a fucked up thing going on in the PokeWorld

Sailor Moon. I've roleplayed in it as myself (in a huge game of self-insertion characters) so when I get there I get magic powers too.

I'd go to the one that is closest to our exact world right now. No weird demons, no crazy future tech that I won't understand, no giant swords. Also, no people who can increase the size of their heads when they yell.

I do not know if such a series exists so I may just have to choose death.
Hana Yori Dango or Marmalade Boy.
I suppose Marmalade Boy is slightly closer to completely normal as the Rich Boyz in HYD
are such crazy exceptional athletes.

Can't choose. It's a tie between Pokémon (obvious reasons), Ranma (could go to China and jump in the pool of whatever cool thing), or just one of the completely normal world ones.
Jump in a pool? No no no my friend....
Take a large cauldron to the pools. Fill it slightly less than 1/2 full of water from spring of drowned girl
(unless there's a spring of drowned bellydancer, then use water from that). Put in an equal amount of water
from spring of drowned cat. Add a bucketful of water from spring of drowned tiger (for color you see).
Fill a super soaker.
STRIPEY CATGIRLS OR CATGIRL BELLYDANCERS EVERYWHERE!

I would go with Fairy Tail or Digimon
Give me any element and I can produce any effect so magic would = god-like. And digimon (1st season world) cause, well it is like home but you get to have a digimon Partner (dibs on a Tailmon ^^)

OT: Busou Shinki. That is some awesome tech they got. Or maybe Touhou - technically a game but it does have a number of anime and doujins to it's name.

Only when you apply the logic of our world to it. At the very least, this much can be said, whatever flaws it might have, it's a much happier world than the one we live in. Animals get eaten here, and animals get eaten there. And if they're only eating Fartetch'd, that's fine by me. And there are some Pokemon which eat humans too, the entry for Litwick on one of its cards, for instance, says that it lures humans to feed off their life energy. So it's not a one way street here.

But that's just cycle of life stuff. The big cynical criticism people make is of what, to us, reads as essentially a dog fighting based economy. That's the part that I'm saying is an invalid interpretation. If you read it that way, then the Pokemon world is a much worse place to live than our world. But I'm saying that the contextual evidence provided by the shows and the games seems to indicate to me that this isn't the case.

The Pokemon world is filled with charm, whimsy, and delight, and neither you nor anyone else will convince me any differently.

That farfecth'd is self-aware. It has thoughts, feelings, dreams, a way of communicating to humans.... and human's eat them, and other pokemon too.

We also, in certain parts of the world, eat cats, dogs, horses, and other animals which we are capable of forming relationships with. Again, it's just cycle of life stuff. Also, Farfetch'd is one of the lamest pokemon, so like I said, if people want to eat it, that's fine by me. Just look at a picture of Farfetch'd. Stare at its hollow eyes. Realize that it carries a leek with it everywhere. It clearly wants to be eaten, prepared as a stew with the very leek that it carries with it. Compare it to the other pokemon, and realize how depressed it must be to be stuck as a Farfetch'd. It can't even evolve into something less lame. To be eaten is its one aspiration in life, and I see no problem with the humans helping it in this endeavor.

Also, to reiterate my earlier point, neither you nor anyone else will ever convince me differently. Pokemon is the perfect world.

No, this isn't like animals on our planet.

Pokemon are as sentient as humans in that universe.

Well, Pokemon would be my first choice. An idyllic little world, where adventuring is a legitimate job? sign me up.

Second choice would be Sword art online. Full virtual reality games where anything could technically be possible! yes please.

Ninja'd, but yes! Technically everyone in that universe is human. I would use summoning magic like Lucy. Those keys look so cool!

Plus, Virgo. Mmmmmmmm, Virgo.
