New Studies have shown that World of Warcraft, the highly popoular online game has the addictive traits of heroin. With some playing 24 hours non-stop before dropping on there floors. It has been called "the drug of the 21st century" with many centres popping up around the world that are designed purely to treat people with WoW addicition. Others believe that addiction habits of World of Warcraft are the same as heroinS Some reports have found that some are so addicted that some have hung themselves rather than give up the game. The properties of addiction in some patients includes taking craps in corners of the room so they dont have to leave the screen, prolonged concentration time which can cause heart failure, malnutrition and dehydration. As many as a few dozen due each year across the globe due to heart failure from playing WoW to long.

Do you agree with these reports, or is it just dribble.

This isnt saying that EVERYONE who plays it will get addicted but it is a problem faced by many people out there.

Whichever source this comes from has obviously never been addicted to heroin.

I'll believe it when clinics for World of Warcraft rehabilitation start to pop up everywhere. I understand that video games can be "addictive" -hell Tales of Symphonia has an addiction warning on it right next to the seizure warning on it- but I've always been under the impression that they're only addictive to those of weak will and excessive sloth. Look, I'm not saying that there aren't intelligent and active people who play WoW but to get up and do something else involves a lot less willpower than quitting heroin. A lot fewer physical effects too... unless you count the positive ones from not sitting in front of your goddamn computer all the damn time.
I'm generalizing here. But I've been addicted to video games and I was able to "quit" very easily.

Wow will never be as addictive as any physical addiction, it can only beat stuff on emotional addiction.

Also dont forget to post a source when you talk about a study saying something.

I don't want to jump on what appears to be maybe a flame-source band wagon, but please post a link or two to back up your statements to reputable sources:

E.G The BBC / MSN

If you just post a topic like this, without any kind of citation, then you will enrage the masses.

These stories that he posted are pointless, and they've all been done before. People in the media keep complaining and crying over this stuff, but the only people who get "addicted" are the people who know no self-control. Some teen collapsed after playing it for 24 hours straight? That's the kid's fault for pulling an all-day-er.

These "reports" motivate me to start playing again. I think tomorrow i'll buy another two months worth.

I guess if someone's not really used to compelling games (or games in general) they could get sucked in, but the average sensible person/gamer isn't going to have these problems...much.

Can we please get these eggheads to make studies on things that actually MATTER?

Please don't make me break out the Blood-Soaked Monolithic Cleaver of Diplomacy.

Even the news sources provide arn't really that reliable. I mean one is a forum and the other two are half assed news sites. Besides WoW won't kill you if you stop playing it, heroin on the other hand .....

I was playing quite a bit before but if my mates ever called me and told me to come out then I was like: "No problem *turns off computer* lets go."

However I know some people have been sucked into it but we have to ask ourselves:

Is world of Warcraft addicting or does it just play off addictive personalities?

Personally I think it is the latter.

Another thing.

I noticed recently I was playing a bit more then was healthy so I put the parental controls on and now I only ever play 2-3 hours.

You had Tanya Byron on there and lost all credibility. She hides her Jack Tompson-like tendencies in the ability to appear rational...
