Sigh....

So they off Vol'jin without him getting to do anything notable as Warchief, they off Varian for pretty much "lol drama", and Sylvanas cuts and runs (understandably; they WERE overrun) without so much as a "we're bugging out and you should do the same" to the Alliance forces? This feels like a cheap reset button to get the Alliance and Horde at each other's throats again.

To be fair though at least its a much better explination as to why they are now at odds compared to Warlords. Ashran made no sense

I'm more mixed, mostly about Vol'jin dying. really liked him but most of the other stuff I'm fine with. Sylvanas becaming the Warchief after it seemed like she betrayed the alliance is going to be interesting. I like they didn't go for her being straight up evil and didn't have her trap or kill Vol'jin to get power. If greymane becomes the leader of the Alliance this will be fun to see play out.

I thought the Alliance Cinematic was pretty good. It was nice to see Gelbin Mekkatorque do something useful, and Genn Graymane is just an awesome leader all around. Sad about Varian's death, but I'm pretty sure this is supposed to make his son Anduin an awesome Human King.

The Horde cinematics, however, I think are kind of lame. Considering the first one was basically the Horde leaving and then replaying the Alliance Cinematic, and the 2nd one makes little sense to me (The Spirits of Azeroth are telling Vol'Jin to make Sylvanas the Chief? What? Even if the Spirits were telling him this, you think it's a good idea to put basically the Mini-Lich King in charge of your organization? Bane Bloodhoof of the Tauren or the Blood Elven Leader makes way more sense, but you pick Sylvanas! On top of that, the Elements of Azeroth are already Chaotic in nature, and even though he's a Shaman, Vol'Jin should know that listening to the Spirits in one of the most important decisions for your organization should not be a good idea!). I highly doubt Sylvanas is going to be a good Warchief. If anything, she's gonna end up being Garrosh 2.0.

I haven't seen the Demon Hunter cinematics, because I really don't care for them.

It's an interesting choice. Baine and the BElf guy aren't leaders that the others would follow. Sylvanas at least is strong in her own right, and can lead. It could lead to disaster, but it could also go well. Hard to tell this early on.

Plus, a correction. Vol'Jin is a shadow hunter. The spirits he's talking of are the Loa and whatnot, similar to witchdoctors. He is not conversing at all with the shamanic spirits, but is more akin to a priest.

Personally I'd be against anything the spirits wanted. The trolls are always being kicked around and consistently make bad decisions. So I'd predict this will, as always, lead to disaster. It'll be a fun ride though.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

HA! HA! HA! Ha. Haaaa.....

If I were Horde player, I'd make sure I hid my ass in Sanctuary cities and didn't even attempt to PvP for a little while so the Alliance can work out their anger on someone else.

Because I can practically feel the Alliance rage all the way out here.

they gave the gnome king a fucking mini-mecha

thats fucking amazing

he needs to be in more cinematics
It was nice to see him and greymane do something for once. I really hope greymane plays a big part in this expansion considering...
Sylvanas is the Wachief and his history with her.

So...

-Green is the colour of this expansion (I think? It was really subtle 0_0)

-Maiev needs throat losengers.

-The Horde shifts through leaders faster than both the Labor and Liberal parties.

-Sylvanas might not be a complete sociopath after all.

-In spite of all this, Thrall is still alive.

so yeah got to say blizz grew some balls killing off 3 big name characters with this scenario (and no not gonna say who the third is you have to play and see) as to whats happening, I actually like this.

look hear me out Sylvanas is the best choice here besides thrall because bain is not a war leader hes the guy you want for peaceful times, lothimar is just now becoming a leader to his own people no way you hand the horde to him, and thrall doesn't want the job anymore. so you pretty much have to chose the one you know can fight a war, make the hard choices and win. my guess is shes going to ware guldans head as a fucking helmet by the end of legion for killing the only two people besides thrall she respected, and one she actually saw as a, I don't know not a friend but maybe as a companion with what happened in northrend.

When Baine is taken off the Horde field, it's because he's overwhelmed by Wrathguards.

When Thrall is taken off the field, it's because he's taken 3 orbital bombardments from Legion Warships and needs to kneel over a little to recover. Like, fuck sake Thrall, play down the Mary Sue for 5 seconds!

Also damn, Vol'jin really didn't do anything, did he? He got to congratulate me when I hit level 3 on my Garrison and that's it.

Outside that, I'm interested to see how this all plays out. I'm quite happy they weren't going the 'obvious betrayal' route, maybe throw in some subtleties and character shit with the future quests instead of the 'oh sudden reversal on all development' that Garrosh went through.

Wow, Varian died, I think, in a way that his son probably felt it.

And Vol'jin? I liked that guy and now he's gone, that kinda sucks.

Hope Sylvanas does something wild in her time as Warchief.

But now she probably has to explain why she left the battle to Varian's son.

true but I think hell understand or at least hear her out, more importantly after sleeping on it these two are perhaps the best leaders for this fight cause one side needs faith and anduain can give it, the other NEEDS a cause to rally behind and someone to push them towards it and if that doesn't fit sylvanas like I glove I don't know who it would.

Of course Sylvanas is warchief now, she's popular. Nevermind the fact that throughout her lore she's basically been a lich queen waiting to happen, a selfish psychopath who's seeming only redeeming quality is how deadly she is, she's hot and she's popular so she gets to be the new Warchief while Vol'jin dies anti-climatically.

Meh. Blizzard are really going all in on the 'rule of cool' these days, nevermind coherent storytelling. Still at least the cinematics are sweet.

I'm assuming they'll pull a Fordragon and come back as the new Sargeras. "THERE MUST ALWAYS BE A LEGION!"

A lot of people seem to think Vol'jin isn't out of the story yet. It's possible he faked his death, but more likely people seem to think he'll become the new troll god of death.

Unrelated, but after doing the Demon Hunter starting zone I really want a warden class now. That new armor model and their abilities are fucking sick.

I hadn't seen the alliance cinematic yet since I only play horde at the moment. And damn the horde are painted as cowards/betrayers, running away from the battle to leave the alliance to their own devices. From the horde side I got a very different impression. More along the lines of "Our warchief is fatally wounded, and we're being overrun. Better retreat now and fight again later than get slaughtered, even if we want to keep going."

Convenient how Jaina, the chick who could have mass teleported troops/Varian or even handled a fel reaver without a heroic leap, is absent for the cinematic with no explanation. I guess making two ice bridges wore her out?
