Well i wanted to discuss the topic of WoW being to addictive. I myself am a player of WoW and the odd time i forget to do something while playing. I'm addicted but not to the point where I have given up on humanity to seek my own little paradice. I just want your thots as to if its to addicting and what are your "fool ups because you were playing wow and forgot to do something" moments.

Uh... not quite WoW but I have forgotten to pick up my sister from work once because I was so engrossed in playing the piano... kind of a long song I got into. It's easy to do with anything, not just WoW, especially for those of us with addictive personalities

I used to play WoW but I wouldn't call it addicting but I know a few people who would call it that. By the way aren't there addiction centers for MMO's in Canada? The only time I ever forgot to do something because of WoW was when I had to start researching a paper topic for school.

WoW wasn't addicting for me (I became bored within a few days), but several of my friends are/have been addicted to it at some point. So yes, it is addictive.

Everything can be addicting, sugar, Counterstrike, books (cousin of mine can be completely unreachable when she reads a book, and she reads a LOT) and yes even WoW is no exception to that. But is it over addicting? Doubt that, I quitted without any problem. Friend of mine though, does nothing else then go to work and play WoW, up to 60 hours a week. Yikes.

The problem with addiction is that everyone has a different relationship with it. Some people can drink one beer and not want another one, others keep going until the whole six pack is gone.

Groups like AA don't even use the word addiction, they just say that if you're at a point in your life where something is robbing you of the life you want to have, we can help. Given the huge number of horror stories I've heard about WoW players losing their wives, husbands, kids, jobs, etc. I'm assuming this has been true for some people.

Incredibly addicting for me. I only managed to quit by getting a gf and starting to have sex again. We're talking 6hrs a day minimum.

Oh, I got a job too.

No doubt Activision-Blizzard is abusing the fact that people get addicted by this sort of game and created WoW this way. I myself don't understand that, but obviously there are many victims out there. I'd, too, say it's addictive.

WoW is definitely addictive. When you choose your college class times to fit around raid times, you consider time spent not playing WoW to be wasted, you consider "but I might get a piece of t6" an excuse for not spending time with your girlfriend, you actually do 25 daily quests every single day, your time not spent playing WoW you spend reading about WoW, yeah, you're addicted.

Note, not all of the above have applied to me, but I know people/have heard stories of people they have applied to. And yeah, the most accurate term is addictive. But it's the nature of the game. As David Sirlin pointed out in this article -> http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20060222/sirlin_01.shtml it's the nature of the game. The more time you spend playing it, the more you get out of it. This makes people with the sorts of personalities prone to getting hooked on things easy pickings.

WoW is addictive to certain kinds of people. I, an occasional WoW player find that when I am playing WoW, it is my displacement activity. When i am not playing it, something else is my displacement activity. Saying WoW is addictive is a fairly stupid thing to say. You may as well be giving into Jack Tompson and his friends and lie down saying "Games are addictive". Sure some people will get addicted to it, but some people get addicted to online FPS games too. It's not something that's unique to WoW, or gaming. Almost any human activity can be said to have some people who are addicted to excessive partaking in. Almost any human creation will have some people are addicted to its consuption consuption.

It does too have a story! Just not a very well executed or thought-out story.

I used to be considered addicted until I got a job and a life. Now I only play once or twice a week if not less.

Well, Im playing it and I have to say: (sorry all of you mmo fans) WoW is the best mmo I've ever played, I'm not addicted, being addicted is not just "wanting to play it" It's doing it all the time. So, as far it's not addicting to ME, but it is addicting overall, I think.
