I stopped playing World of Warcraft months ago. It's honestly my double-edged sword. Don't get me wrong, I'm a WoW fan, and an addict. But since I'm too piss-poor to buy a new computer, and this one lags when I'm listening to music, it didn't look good for me. As soon as I scrounge up the funds to buy a new computer, I'm getting back on WoW. Now, to the double-edged sword part. That was the bad part (quitting) in my opinion, but the good part is now I've rediscovered (partially) a social life.

Pretty strong bias. I'll agree, awhile ago, the majority of Alliance players were little kids, but that seems to have changed now. It's a bit balanced out, in my opinion, depending on the server you frequent.

Good review, I just have to say:
What level are you? Horde or Alliance?
Once you get to 70, not many people are Rogues, and at lower levels the population is more Hunters. And my obligatory anti-hunter-not-personal-rebuttal: You say rogues are unskilled, but you play a hunter, who sends his pet in and autoshots. Fun fun fun.
You didn't bring up instances, groups, or noobs, all of which are as big as PVP. It seems like it was more a review of PVP, but you didn't even mention the different BGs, or honor, or gear at all for that matter... So it was, to me, a rant on rogues from a hunter, who should just sic his pet on the rogue, Wing Clip, run away, Concussive shot, Frost/Freezing Trap, Serpent Sting, pet, dead.

Sorry about that last part... got outa control.

I've found that most people who say they don't like the game haven't played past the first 10 levels. This is, of course, understandable due to the fact that the first 10 levels are ridiculously boring, and it would only be natural to assume that the rest of the game would be that way. However, after these first few levels, the game does become quite interesting and downright fun... seriously, it does! Specifically, the game gets good when you do your first instance run (around level 16-18). Once that happens the game becomes awesome. So please, those who didn't get past the boring levels, give the game another chance and try to get past them.

Are you kidding me? PvP in EVE is just as pointless as PvP in any other game. The only difference is that you lose everything yet gain nothing in EVE, whereas in WoW you can only obtain new gear. In EVE you fight for useless 'land', and in WoW you fight to get new gear.
Wait, wait. The land is 'useless' but the gear is not? What about the loot from wrecks? Ransoms? Mining space, or ratting space? You don't actually know what you're talking about do you? I assure you there are advantages to owning space, and more to the point that means something. Even if you only own onesystem you're the only one in the universe who owns that system. You're never that unique on WoW. Anyway, where's the point in combat if you can't lose anything? Yes, it's pointless. All gaming is pointless, really, but that is not what I said. I said it is meaningless; you're not in any real struggle against other players, because frankly you have nothing to struggle for. I mean perhaps when you had to fight to keep your pvp rank, then you had a reason not to lose, not anymore! For it to have any point it needs to be risk vs. reward. WoW has no risk, only reward for putting in enough hours. EvE has both, enough risk to actually give an adrenaline rush, enough reward to make it worthwhile.
I never said the gear is 'usefull'. Gaming is pointless. That includes both WoW and EVE.
Wreck loot is pretty much the same as loot in WoW, as far a I've seen.
Mining Space? How about fighting for a mining vein in WoW?
And what will happen if one corporation becomes so powerful that they'll own most of the universe? What's the point of playing EVE when that happens?

No other class has been shat upon so much as the Shamans. Anybody who claims otherwise hasn't played a Shaman, or hasn't played in general for long enough to know what they are talking about.
I stopped reading right there ( ..well.. not really ). Like I said, I had been playing as a fire mage for quite some time and TBC comletely screwed my class over. Blizzard decided to buff the class after I quit the game, but until then it just sucked. Shamans were the most overpowered class in pre-TBC WoW and were still good in TBC. I admit that Shamans were significantly nerfed in TBC, but they certainly haven't been screwed over as badly as Paladins, I mean Healadins, for example.
In the end it all comes down to this: Every Blizzard employee plays a warlock...

I'm tempted to put my latter essay on this site just to show once and for all my many points as to why I strongly dislike this game.

Actually, it's not bad. WoW makes a really damn good place to dump players who get kicked out of other MMO's. It may be bottom of the barrell, but like everything, it's all preference. If you can stand the 1997-like graphics, ridonculous grind, and repetitive nature, it's not all that bad.

I don't play wow because I don't want to pay $180 a year to play a game. I'll admit it's fun though.

So I used to play WoW religously, then by the new year realized how much of my time i waste everyday on this repetitive game. Instead of playing WoW all winter I restored my grandfather's 82 Trans Am that I inherited. So now instead of a lvl 70 warrior this summer I have a nice 80's sports car.

I guess my point is the same as quite a few on this forum, WoW is way too time-consuming. There are better things you can do, and still have time for video games.

Is that all people do? Grind, raid, PvP? There's RP too y'know, hell you could even just hang around and chat if you like, however with respect to both, there are obviously easier and cheaper ways to do this. I suppose it helps to think of WoW as chat/RP service you have to pay for in that regard ^^'

Actually, a better point, is that as with anything, you can choose whether or not to play it, and in choosing to do so, it's up to you what you want to do with it. Don't really understand the 'dislike' for people who do play it, or do anything for that matter. i.e. I don't like what you like for X reason! Or, I had bad experience with X it therfore to my mind sucks and you shouldn't play it! Anyway, overall it doesn't -really- matter what anyone says, as it's up to the individual themselves whether or not to listen right? Sides, it's far more interesting to engage disscussion rather than simply stating this sucks.

So, as for the graphics. Can't really say much, as to my mind I prefer aesthetic appeal over graphical prowess any day. That is, something that's interesting, and I like to look at. And WoW has plenty of this, even if many of the creatures and locations are merely palette swapped, there's still a depth of interesting and fun looking stuff, and some dare I say iconic.

Second, repetition. What would you have otherwise? You say it's get's boring and is a waste of time, but where are the suggestions for something better? Would one off content (ala previous WoW server wide events AQ etc.) be better? i.e. once it's done it's done for good? How is that good for new players then? What are they left with? As a genre MMOs have to have a certain amount of repetitivness ingrained into them, this is because new people (hopefully) can be joining at any time at random intervals. Although a player that's been at it for a while will have seen all this content, a new player of course will not. And actually, that seems to me the purpose of expansion packs/patches, that is to provide new content for the current players, however, depending on the company this can take time, and of course you wouldn't be wrong I suppose in getting bored with a game in the meantime.

But again, I'm not saying everyone should play it and love it. Nothing is above criticism, just get's in my craw when people go after the players instead of the game, of guise it so that in criticising the game anyone, who plays X is somehow a loser or wasting their time by doing so.
Only, it's -my- time to waste hehe. :D

Out of curiousity, how in the heck did you find this thread, and why did you necro-bump it from like 5 months ago?

Also, make me.

Very true...this article isn't exactly new.
Second...this remains one of the few -positive- reviews on WoW in here, every other one seems...less so.

And Stammer! I too would like to peruse that essay, I'm sure you managed to be completely objective and fair as you tear WoW a new air hole am I right? :p

Got bored before the trial ended - you seem to have omitted that the PvE gameplay is grindtastic.

Now, I realise that most RPGs are heavy on the grind, but this felt heavier than most. Maybe it's the fact that people pay so that they can grind that gets to me... Diablo II was (and is!) more fun!

Played an Alliance Paladin and a Horde Priest to 70. Got tired of the game, got tired of most of the players, got tired of the same endless crap you hear day in and day out:

- Class X is overpowered.
- Class Y is underpowered.
- My faction of choice consists mainly of more mature people than your faction does.
- Your faction of choice is all kids.
- The game is too casual now.
- (endless arena crap).
- PvE is easy / PvP takes all the skill.
- PvP is easy / PvE takes all the skill.

I came to love my guild, and that was about it. kept me playing long after the game ceased to interest me in the slightest. Long after quitting I still surf the forums and read the frontpage for the /g quotes. (PM me for the link if you want half an hour's reading of random and hilarious crap).
