Basically which sort of paladin is better DPS, Heal or Tank? I'm thinking about reseting my talents and just thought that seeing as a few of you play WoW and these forums tend to have intelligent people, I would harness the power of your brains and ask you which is best, and why?

I don't play World of Warcraft anymore, but my cousin still does and he's a pretty good holy(healing) paladin.

Who cares. Paladins suck. Shammys or 'Locks ftw!
Thanks for your amazing help and answer to my question, I shall be sure to change my character into one.

Well back in the day holy paladins were the only thing actually useful until Hyjal, then the protection ones started to kick in. Retribution paladins (retardins for short) are the pvp gang. Personally I always loved protadins but that's because I was a lock and a good tank meant I could live 5 seconds longer. I suggest you just pick one and stick with it, switching between them often leaves you being mediocre in all of them rather than being awesome at one.

Holy is for healing and undead/demon specific combat.

Protection is tanking and has a few nice damage boosts as well. Emphasis in shields and single handed weapons.

Retribution is damage with a nice little mix of healing, buffs, and, crit modifiers. Emphasis on Two handed weapons.

I'm personally rolling with a Retribution Pally and it is fun to play. All Paladins get a good mix of healing and tanking so it some down to which role you find yourself in the most. Ret can tank but not as well as Prot, Prot can't match Ret for damage and neither can heal as well as Holy.

Most Pally's you will see will be Prot or Ret so unless you want a heavy armored healer then those are basically what you choices come down to.

Thing is my friend (who I get triple XP with due to recruit a friend) is a warrior. (At the moment I play a tank but messed up my talents abit)

If you're leveling no point in being a tank, especially if you're with a warrior. I say use retri to get to 80 and then go holy, blizzard makes most armor for the classes it thinks the junk is for. Blizzard doesn't see the paladin as anything other than a healer, so if you're aiming to gear up after that, holy should be your choice. But remember, you're not playing the game for your guild and you're not playing the game for the gear, you're playing the game to have some fun and if not having any talent points on at all is what you want to do, that's what you should god damn do.

I would personally prefer to go healer, and keep the warr up while he chain pulls and kills half the world. If the warr keeps a shield in the backpack, you have a super easy time putting together a group for any instance you'd like to visit, and a lot of the time, do not even need to look for more in order to do normal group quests. One more bonus from being a healer is that you can make do with bad gear (nothing will hit you if the warr handles his job). Quest greens loaded with +healing/int/spirit and maybe a boss drop or two are plenty. It saves you that much more time and gold, which are better spent leveling higher and buying mounts.

Once you hit high levels, you might as well try other specs. It's cheap while leveling as there is not a lot of challenge and you won't have invested much in gear yet. Going retri at some point in 60-70 would not be a bad idea. I still would not go prot as long as you are with the warrior.

From 70+, start considering what you want to do at 80, and take suitable instance drops/quest loot for that spec.

I've seen some great paladin tanks. mostly thanks to the easy mode that is consecration... they're not really great DPSers from my experience.
