World of Warcraft: Why is it hated by so many gamers?

Hates a strong word. I don't hate WoW, I'd just rather watch some paint dry.

I don't understand it to be honest. It could be the large community, the large array of... stuff you can get or the fact that it's really the first online type of it's game, so it drew in the fans.

I can't see whats so great though. You click something, you wait, it dies. Wohoo. Now repeat that another 1000 times to complete one in 10,000 quests. Oh wait, everynow and again you might die.

I have played WoW, with a lot of breaks, since the release. A lot of people that I know that quit playing and started to hate the game instead did so because they realized how much time and money they had spent on it. The biggest problem with WoW addiction is probably the raids. It's quite fun at first but after a while it starts to feel like youre going to work every time you log on to be in a raid. And if you don't be there, 24 other guys will be pissed at you (used to be 39 guys before....thats a freakin mob). So you kind of go on playing, even though you don't really feel like it, until you just can't take it anymore and start hating the game instead.

Because it doesn't really reward skill so much as it rewards repetition and time-commitment.

EDIT: Also it was never really fun.
Just addicting. Once I got away for a few days I didn't even want to play anymore.

It's pure grind and time investment. Skill has very little to do with your success, especially in pvp (almost entirely decided by what class you rolled).

Some are cheapskates, some don't like sending hours and hours trying to get to end game, and others like myself played it and saw their lives going into oblivion.

That is why it is hated.

I want those two years back Blizzard.
