It is great but it wasn't what I was looking for in an online MMO. I soared to the final levels quickly and so did my friends, after a couple of months they decided to leave WOW and the only reason I played was because of them.

i think world of warcraft is monotonous, all you do is kill something and someone gives you money.
Sir, you just described what I like to call a RPG.

Horrible game. It's decent as far as MMORPGs go, but since I've never encountered a good MMO (any kind, not just MMORPGS), that doesn't really mean much. For some reason, it seems that developers think that, when making an MMO, you should encourage people to play the game with rewards like levelling up or getting good loot rather than making them play the game by making it fun.
Odd. Perhaps some consider the things one does in the process of leveling up and the things one can do as a result of leveling up to be fun?

And you're meant to pay money to play that even though you've already bought it. What do people do for long hours for years on end that's really boring but gives you a reward? Work. But you make it a game and suddenly people jump at the idea and will even pay money for the privilege of working.
It's called "rental." And considering the game expands over time while retaining the same price...

Remember:

Whether its "worth it" or not depends is personal.

Whether its "fun" or not is personal.

Whether its "lyk OMG BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME EVAR!!!" or not, is personal.

Because its not fun for you, doesn't mean everyone else playing it is somehow being scammed. A scam is only a scam if you are being cheated out of money for no possible gain.

Being cheated out of money for enjoyment, satisfaction, a sense of achievement or socializing is not a scam.
If it is, then the entire videogame industry is one very, very elaborate long con.

This. I had a mini-rant prepared, but this is better.

I have played it for 2 minutes.

Then I quit. I also lived happily ever after. ;)

Why thank you.

I keep that one on ice, ready for every time this thread rolls around.

I would have stopped playing much sooner if it wasn't for some of the people I met there.

Odd that I never talk to them, though.

I played the demo for it and then was going to buy the game when it ran out... i wasn't able to right away and the urge passed.

The bonds you build are pretty unbreakable.
After a 70 horde and 70 alliance over about a year, then i decided time to quit.
I'll never EVER forger the people met there. Even with all the, to be blunt, tossers. There's some real special people among them.
But the gameplay got real boring.
Blizzard's marketing technique is just, a lowblow.
You play to reach the top and continuously get better things, although there's no real end and point to it all. Tsk.
It plays very well on human nature.

Played the game, rerolled a couple of times. Just days after getting into a guild doing high-end (Black Temple), I quit because it was too formulaic for my tastes.

Then whoopee for you, I just don't like the way said parts are pretty much completely inferior to the combat, story and aesthetics of games several years older than it. All the fights consist of clicking on an enemy, clicking on any appropriate abilities and watching as you fight it out Age of Empires style.

I'm not actually trying to convert anyone here, or say that I'm somehow superior to them because they play a game I don't like. It's just that when I read a thread with someone asking for honest opinions about whether or not World of Warcraft is a good game, I tend to give my honest opinion, rather than watering it down so I don't offend anyone who plays it.

It may well be rental, but the point still stands that a regular RPG (or, apparently, other MMORPGs) don't require you to pay a monthly fee to play the game in addition to an up-front cost to get the disc. I don't care if you have to pay because those poor Blizzard fellows who are doubtless living on the streets need all the money they can scrounge around for to keep the servers up and running, you're still paying money to play a game you already bought. And the game hardly retains the same price when you pay money every month. Also, DLC is hardly unique to WoW. Other games expand over time too, and some of them don't even charge you for it.

So the only thing the OP has done so far is make provoking topics...

I "love" all my now ex-guildies and I still see them every few months. still love the game but I got bored.
