You only get one try and if you attempt anything cool (killing someone, flying,) you end up dead.
It does have some amazing graphics though. And it's really immersive when you get into it.
The story can be awful in places unfortunately.

Oh, hey, that Atari ET is the biggest crap I've ever seen.

Worse than Big Rigs.

Sorry, but at least in Big Rigs you knew what to do. You had no motivation, or difficulties doing that, but you knew what the hell to do!

damn you beat me to it
but you forgot the lack of a save system and health bar, no real story, terrible charicter design and no fast travel

on the plus side theres realistic gameplay, realistic conversations and no QUICK TIME EVENTS

E.T on the Atari.

Can we all stop repeating Seanbaby for about five seconds and thing for ourselves for a change?

E.T. on the Atari VCS is hardly the worst game ever made nor is it even the worst game on that console. I'm not going to pretend it's a good game by any means. Its flaws are numerous and varied, but as badly designed (because it was badly rushed and overambitious) as it may be, it is playable once you learn the overcomplicated and unintuitive control scheme. Unlike, say, any of the SwordQuest games which are even more overcomplicated and unintuitive to the power of two. Or perhaps the titles from Mythicon which were more like someone's high school computer class final project than professionally written games.

While E.T. is a poorly made game and historically significant is some respects, constantly bringing it up is just reflexive stupidity. It's not as bad as everyone seems to think it is. There are much, much worse games.

Back to the topic, I'm going to have to say Dragon's Lair. I suppose I could name any of the laser disk games of that era, but they basically amounted to quick time events for the entirety of game play. Using high quality animated film clips did not mean the game had "great graphics." It was a lousy gimmick that was no fun to play.

There are quick time events, actually.
"Jump left to not die."
Not catchy, but...
yeah but it doesnt tell you what to press or when it will happen
