Weird ass title, huh? Anyways, this thread is about Worms. You know, Worms Armageddon and all that. To be more specific, the hilarious luck people tend to have playing Worms. I'm talking going one-on-one with a bot that has less health than you and losing because they prodded you off an edge. Tell me your tales of bad luck, or good luck.
One of mine was on a custom map of mine: I had set up a defense, and was pelting grenades at the last worm on a bot team, when suddenly it threw a grenade back, which went through a hole in a girder and landed on the girder I was on before exploding. It was Sudden Death mode, and if he missed or something similar, and one more round passed, that worm would've drowned.

Well playing Worms Armageddon I seem to remember it not being luck so much as it was the AI was a freakishly devious monster who wanted to crush everything you've ever cared for.

Bazookas and grenades. In the hands of a human, decent damage.
In the hands of the computer, unstoppable killing machine that will find you no matter how deep you bury your ass.

Exactly this, I remember having to bunker down with drills then use all my special weapons (Oh how I loved the super sheep).

I remember while playing worms (the original one AKA the best) and it was my 1 guy vs there 1 guy (wasn't sudden death).

It was my turn so I thought fuck it, randomly shot a bazooka through the air, it went through a tiny little gap in the earth and sent the other worm flying!

Another time I was playing against my brother. In the middle of the map was a long bridge, it was like a river from the side view, piece of land on each side with a bridge connecting them.

His worm was stood on a piece of land over 2 of his other worms who were on the bridge. I took out the shot gun, shot the land underneath the worm so he joined his wormy chums, then shot a land mine into the group ... 3 kills in 1 go!

A while ago on a fort match I tossed a grenade horizontally, hoping to bounce it off of the top of a crater and hit a worm that was sitting just in front of a tunnel and it ended up rocketing right down the tunnel and landing next to 2 others on low health. One chain explosion later and the front worm was the only one left.

Thing about the A.I is it can't use half the maneuverability stuff, so just get somewhere and rope to and fro between your turns, after clearing anything close to an edge.

The most luck is when it's auto placement, and one team is in land and the other is spread all across the edges. Shotguns into water are always satisfying.

Been a long time since I've played normal games though, mostly play Shoppa/WxW which is just about flying around and Hysteria where all my shots are luck.

Me and a friend of mine. He was dubbed the "sudden death" because with him on the field, you wouldn't need to turn it on - chances are, he'll wipe out everything. Unintentionally, by the way. So here are some of his feats. Note that he genuinely did not intend the results.

- Fires off a bazooka and badly misjudges the wind - hits the middle of nowhere, but that manages to bounce off a mine next to my worm, which is also next to a barrel. My worm dies a sudden and very shocking fiery death.
- bazooka again, my friend tapped the space by mistake, rather than hold it down. Predictably, that blew up his worm. Which landed next to mine, and the minor explosion from the suicide pushed my worm over the edge. Literally. Into the water.
- banana bomb. He decided to do a suicidal attack - just threw the bomb where I had a congregation of worms with the idea that his worm would die, maybe also one or two others would be damaged but I'll suffer a bigger loss. Banana blows up, the fragments don't really come near my worms, but pretty much land on all of his (he had activated low gravity, too, so that contributed). He pretty much decimated his team while I suffered something like 100-150 HP total damage, distributed among mine.
- different game, there were 4 of us. My friend is down to a couple of worms. Manages to pick up a crate and gets Armageddon. He activate it to draw the round. Final result - he was the only survivor from the entire map. One of the worms, which had the majority of its health in the beginning, didn't really get damaged much, while the other died, but only because it had something like 20-ish HP to begin with.
- fires off a homing missile which goes so off course that it kills two other worms (can't remember which teams they were - I think at last one was his), completely out of the way. Basically, he managed to hit a barrel, and the fire from there seeped down a level burning and killing a second worm.

CAPTCHA: good buddy
yes, he's a good buddy of mine. Not you, CAPTCHA.

I ninja roped once... as I was swinging I ran out of time and the rope ended. My worm was flung accross the map towards the only worm left on the opposing team (I had 1 other). He careered strait into that other worm knocking them both off the ledge into the drink... :p Sheer fluke!

A horrible glitch occurred during a match with my friends on the 360 Worms game. He planted a dynamite on me and jumped away and somehow the dynamite glitched out and attached itself to him. I won.

Usually when I played against friends in the past, if the game ever got to 1v1 at the end we got so nervous about making a mistake one of us would usually end up making a mistake that involved getting our selves killed. Mistakes like, bad jumps, rope fails, risky shits.

Eventually I learned to play it more safe if I have one worm left. I just dig in somewhere high and set up a base using turrets and girders. :D People hate that.

One of my proudest moments was versus a guy who I have a huge rivalry with inliterally anything where you can compete against others. He had two worms left vs my one, I was stuck down a large crater and he was pummelling me with every shot as it was a straight forward shot to get a grenade into me. One of his worms was low enough on health, the other was full health and after one more grenade my single worm would be dead. I'd no tools to escape with so I was screwed. My last shot I managed to get a grenade right beside the worm on low health, this blew that worm over an obstacle right beside his other worm, and when the low health worm died from the grenade he then blew the other worm over a small bump in the land and into the water. He wasn't impressed.

Definition of Worms Luck: "The event that occurs when you spend all of your time lining up a perfect shot just to have said shot come flying back right at you at killing your entire team."

Another awesome one was during a rope race, the same guy had finished and it was incredibly close as to who was going to win between the two of us. I was going down the home straight and it was looking like I was going to lose by less than a second. I hit an instant mine(we play rope races with mines and sentry guns) and this launched me straight over down the final straight and into the portal. I won by something like a 1/10th of a second.

i managed to pull off a shot worthy of the AI. im on one side of the map my friend has a worm way on the other side think we were playing 3D. i dont really think i can hit him but try lobbing over a gas grenade to at least poision him. by some amazing fluke i manage to hit him in the head but instead of bouncing off it gets stuck between his head and a bit of scenery he is standing next to. only being a smoke grenade it does very little but on my next go i manage to repeate the feat only this time with a holy hand grenade

Fired one of those poison arrow things, with the intention of wasting a turn, but the arrow skipped twice on the water and hit an opponents worm.

Granted, it depends on which team you give the bots, but there's no such thing as luck when it's concerning them. Depending on the difficulty, every strike is precisely calculated to work with the wind and any other factors needed to screw you over. "Alright, if I shoot at this power with this angle the bazooka will fly up, curve around, fall down this narrow hole, hit a barrel, blow 3 people into a mine which blows them off the face of the world." That's not luck, that's Comp Haxors.

That said, I always enjoyed the game just because it's goofy. But it's WAY too easy to get utterly screwed over in that game. "Each of your team-member is placed on a ledge over water and you go 4th out of 4 players. --- Congrats! It's your turn! Take your one worm left with 25 health and have at it!"

Gav really...REALLY sucks at Worms. :p

The funniest use of Kamikazi ever occurs around 25:50. But you have to watch the whole thing to get the full context. :3

That's what makes the game great though.
I've pulled myself out of that exact situation before.
It's never over until all your worms are gone. : ]

Only two of us left, each with one wounded worm. My turn. I can easily kill him with a heavy explosive.

I don't recall what I used. A sheep or dynamite, I think. Something strong enough to give his worm quite a bit of thrust.

It ricochets off a wall and in to my worm. I lose control. It blows up, killing my worm.

Rematch.

This one time on the Playstation 1 version of Worms Armageddon I had managed to get myself the best of all things, The Holy Hand Grenade. It was in this game against a friend and it was only like the 2nd or 3rd turn. No one had lost a single worm, which was surprising considering how close they all were to each other and the water. I think we were just fucking around with the shotguns to see who would win first. I threw this holiest of all holies and...
Half of his worms died from flying headfirst into the water, another flew onto a mine and then into the water, and another flew right next to one of my worms, close enough that I managed to uzi him into the water.

On worms 4 mayhem when playing with 3 friends we had just started a game of Homelands, me and an ally vs two others. I had the first go so I jetpacked over to their island, tossed a holy hand grenade into their midst, and managed to kill all of them without my worm (who was still on the island) being hurt.
