When you have a tonsil removal. Or any other surgery.

They were removing my tonsils for over 2,5 hours and if power was cut off... I might be speechless right now or something worse.

Presumably while you're on life support or something
This man speaks the truth.
Except hospitals and buildings with safety critical systems such as Air Traffic Control will have their own internal power generators in case of emergency so mains power loss wouldn't be such an issue.
Worst I remember was a long time ago when de-fragging my pc. I imagine windows now has some sort of imaging to prevent this, but back then it resulted in the loss of my HD contents >_<

I once spent 12 hours on Sim-city then the whole power grid gos poof. I lost everything because at the time I was saving and corrupted the whole file. That was bad.

One of my friends lost 2 essays and a document based question(pretty much a huge essay) that he was just finishing when the naborhood lost power.
This is why all my document programs save once every 60 seconds with 3 backups (any document program that can't accomplish this I refuse to use).

It sounds retarded but it takes ONE TIME of losing work because you forgot to save to cause you to do it. Plus the save is so fast you don't even notice it while working (doesn't even lag keystrokes).

Maxis has gotten lots of shit over the years for refusing to put in the (painfully simple) autosave function.

Shift+S will save almost instantly because it doesn't update the map image yet they still wouldn't put in a shift+s per x minute feature with backups (just a couple is fine). Which would be OK if not for the fact that ANYTHING popping up ANYWHERE on your PC while you play can and likely will crash SC4 because it was built atop a few wet pieces of paper standing on their ends.

I love the game but Cheney has a more stable heart than SC has code.

All times. But I'll just blatantly parrot that the worst times to lose power is when

1. You're on life-support.
2. You're working on something you haven't saved yet.
3. You're having an uber fucking awesome achievement in progress in any game and the power goes RIGHT before you get to save it. (Regardless of what it is)

Similar has happened to me fairly often, so much so i'm considering buying a UPS.
I don't know why everyone doesn't use an uninterruptible power supply now. I'd reccommend using it if you keep important work on your computer because you won't be caught out if there's a sudden power cut.

Playing Dead Rising. Went from 46 to 47, went to the bathroom to save...BAM! Power outage while I was saving. Lost everything to corruption.

I was working in a lab with no windows. It was rather startling to have the power go out, plus slightly... interesting to get to the door.

Oh, and to Bullfrog1983, you don't need the qualifier at the end of -40c. -40c = -40f

That is if you're not thinking Rankine of Kelvin, but noone really uses those outside of a laboratory
heh, that would suck pretty bad!

I was thinking celcius, as I was brought up on Canadian standards. I have always used celcius... just a personal preference.

Gormourn, you are silly. I already said blankets - and i'm not about to burn the place down! Either way, that kind of stuff rarely happens where I live even though it gets that cold somewhat often in the winter. Same reason why I am leaving this place in April.
