We've all heard discussions on what the best anime openings are. But what about the openings that suck? It's high time they get the recognition they don't deserve! Remember, we're talking openings here, not the animes themselves.

I'll start. Probably my most hated one is the one for Berserk. The anime itself is excellent (ending notwithstanding), but you wouldn't know it from the opening. Barely anything happens, and it does nothing to prepare you for the show. And don't even get me started on the guy's singing!

Some other dishonorable mentions: Azumanga Daioh (the cuteness made me nauseas), Panty and Stocking (fucking auto-tune!), Bleach's 4th opening (how do you go from Ichirin no Hana to THAT?!)

Gankutsuou... brilliant anime, but god I hate that guy's (OP singer) voice. It's like mine, except worse and wholly unsuited to singing classical. Having perfect pitch doesn't help me, 'cos I lose count of how many notes the idiot jars.

Listen and weep... the bloody uploader called it 'the most beautiful opening theme I've ever seen' as well... granted it ain't that bad on the eyes, BUT MY EARS!! MY EARS!! THEY BURN!!

I utterly despise this OP.

I also completely disagree with OP's stance on Bleach's 4th Opening. Beat Crusaders is an awesome band.

This, the music is so dull that it really putting me off wanting to watch it and that is the second opening. Also the opening only show a bunch of characters in the city night and that it.

Look it up on Youtube. Go any further than that and you may have a visit by the old bill.

Calumon: I'm not even allowed to see your answer? But why not?

Jack: Because of it's soul damaging properties.

That's... one of the best openings ever. I can understand why some people don't like it, but seriously, I've seen very few anime that had such spectacular openings.

Tsukiyomi Moon Phase puts a lot of people off, though I personally find it hysterical and adorable. OP if you didn't like Azumanga Daioh's opening you'll despise this one even more.

I have to agree with Berserk having a pretty awful OP.

EDIT: Here's the opening of moon phase

The "music" is just annoying and doesn't seem fit with the mood of the anime at all, and the scenes shown in the intro have almost nothing to do with what happens in the show either. I haven't watched too many animes so I'm not an expert or anything, but as soon as I read the title of the thread this is what jumped to mind.

The moment the intro switched to this was the moment I started skipping it. I saw no need to subject myself to having a really loud and annoying man scream down my ear-hole every time I wanted to watch an episode.

Not as bad as some of the others, But I really don't like the twelfth opening to One Piece.

I mean, the arc this ran during is friggin impel down, one of the darker arcs of the show. and it's unbearably light and poppy, even in contrast to other OP openings. And this is right off the heels of the excellent (A bit engrish-loaded) eleventh opening.

Freaking hated this opening so much in the later half of the second season, hell scratch that, I completely hated the second half of the 2nd season; They go from top assassins for a world wide crime syndicate to stupid high school antics and not to mention the return of a particular character who was a lot younger than the main characters and on her return she looks like she has 5+ years on them at least.

The first opening was a lot better and before the stupid High School crap the show threw in later on in the series, the show itself was overall pretty decent not the best anime I've seen but it was worth a watch in my opinion. Here's the first opening.

Thematically, Death Note isn't a pretty little show about nice people. Its protagonist is a guy who, when given the power of others lives, decides he will use it to make himself the ruler of a perfect future. Intensity, and anger are the themes that I see. The same feeling of 'holy crap, did that just happen?' that I got at the end of the first episode of Death Note, is epitomized in the raucous second opening of the show.

It's Kira's big Fuck You to the world. Oh, and it's good to headbang to. But yeah.

I do understand why some don't like it though, as it is right on the cusp between great metal, and annoying screamer metal, and there are a lot of people who just don't like that kind of music. I love it, but hey, that doesn't mean everyone does.

I'd say one of the openings to Code Geauss. It sounded like a nassally cowboys singing while crap-faced drunk....IN JAPANESE. Me and my friends read the subtitles on the bottom for the translations and the lyrics in english aren't too good either. "I shave one side of my face" WTF?!
In the words of comic book guy:worst anime opening ever

I considered the show to be more about complicated plans, trickery, and intrigue between characters who were always trying to outwit each other, or tip the balance of events in their favour. This sort of heavy metal does not mesh at all with my idea of what it was about.

Of course all of that is pretty much irrelevant to me, because with that screaming I would hate it no matter how thematically appropriate it was. The song gets more bearable in the middle, but the beginning and end are just horrible. From 0:07 to 0:20 is literally just "BLAAaAAaaAaaAaAAaaAAaaAAAAAaAAaaAAaaAAaAAaAAARGH, *breathe* BLAAAAAaAAaaAaAAAAaAAaaaAAaaAAAA..."

If you like that sort of thing, fair enough, but for everyone who doesn't it's just painful.

Well, considering the guy usually sings like this;
I'm not suprised he kinda sounds like crap.

Now, as for shitty anime OPs,

HA! Nah, just kidding, I haven't seen too many anime OPs I've hated.

EDIT: Now I remember, Darker Than Black's season 2 OP. How you go from HOWLING to that song is bullshit to me. It just doesn't compare in quality to HOWLING.

I respectfully disagree. The song doesn't fit with what Death Note is about at all. There's also the fact that I think Maximum the Hormone is one of the worst bands I've ever heard.
