Pokemon. I never saw why it was so good to everyone.
It was fine when they just had the original 150. But then they DOUBLED that shit like, OVERNIGHT and then pumped several more seasons of the show out (Isn't it still going? Perhaps a spinoff or three?) and, blagh.

I enjoyed it when it was simple, but then gave up when they figured out the shit raked in the dough.
I'm with ya. It was an enjoyable children's show with the first 150, just some friends going on random adventures and fighting Team Rocket, but it just got dragged out mercilessly with every other pokemon being legendary. And why's Team Rocket still trying to catch Pikachu?

Naruto is by far the worst anime out there.... tell me of another anime that is more then 3/4 parts fillers.
Lucky Star. The whole show was a filler.
Or concentrated with what it's supposed to be, your mileage may vary.
Talking about this series outside of the most civilized parts of the internet (even we're not civilized enough) will start massive nuclear flame wars. However, both sides agree on two terms: 1: It's a quirky series with a limited audience, only for those who like moe and randomness, and 2: The first episode sucks and that damned food conversation lasted too long. It gets better around episode 5 when they changed directors.

Why did we have to dredge a thread that was quite obviously flame bait?

Anyway, I guess I can't really think of any anime that I have both seen and notably hated. I tend to have a pretty open mind I guess.

I don't really have a taste for Pokemon or the other sort of stuff my sister throws on the TV though.

Anime I truly hate and despise?

I feel that would be a tie between One Piece, DBZ and InuYasha. The rest of bad anime I've seen have at least some redeeming qualities.

Shin Chan.
Oh science that one makes my eyes bleed, and I'm a big South Park fan.
Yeah but South park is done by professionals, who spend time and effort making it look like that. Shin Chan is made with crayons and dangerously large quantities of cocaine.

I'm gonna have to go w/ DBZ... I wonder will happen w/ this season.... Goku will die, Vagita will think he can handle it, Goku w/ be reborn and go Super Sayen x+1 depending on the season, they will find the dragonballs and restore life... lots of episodes of stare downs and no to little action... overall just boring. Yes I did watch more then I care to admit but the repetitiveness became overbearing.

I gotta go with the extremely overrated Naruto.

It feels like a whole bunch of badly developed characters not acting like ninjas. The action is crappy the story is crappy and the animation is OK at best.

Edit: By the way count the "best" version of the anime you select. Crappy Dub Job does not constitute an anime being bad.
Wow I think I just saw the worst anime ever now...The Prince of Tennis... I mean I have seen a lot of weird anime themes but tennis? What's next are they going to have some scruffy haired character themed around doing his taxes, and call it Form 1040EZ?

Well, I've kind of like all the anime I've watched, but I guess my least favourite is One Piece.

The worst ever? I'd say that would have to be Onegai twins. A lot of you are saying Naruto, bleach or full metal alchemist are bad but shit at least they had plots that went somewhere. This piece of shit spent 13 episodes doing NOTHING.
Naruto's Plot didn't go NO WHERE after the big Sasuke and Naruto fight. Whole shit. two seasons of useless story arcs.

Yes.

Worst anime . . . Fruit's Basket. The manga was far superior. Love Hina was a lot worse then the manga too. I kinda like romances. Wanna fight about it?

Fight about it? I want to shake your hand. Fruits Basket was my first manga, and is still my absolute favorite. The only good things to come out of the anime adaptation were the music (sue me, I love Ritsuko Okazaki's work, rest her soul) and a surprisingly good reinterpretation of

the reveal of Kyo's true form. It didn't make as much sense as the manga, but I felt it was actually animated and emoted well enough to make up for that.

Can't comment on Love Hina, though. I read most of the manga some years ago, but I don't think I've seen any of the anime outside some AMVs.

Your hand shake is accepted. I enjoy some of Ritsuko Okazaki's work also.

You can pass on Love Hina. Although you might like it. Crazier things have happened. Just look at Hitler.

Eh. I wasn't entirely sold on the manga, to tell the truth. I might finish it soon, but only out of morbid curiosity...and loyalty to Ken Akamatsu, for the unrestrained awesome that is Negima.

I don't like that one that has the teenager with the big hair who saves the world.
Oh wait... that's all animes.
...I'd object, if I could think of an anime that involved that. Hang on a second.

*scours internet*

EDIT:

Congratulations. You described...Yugioh, and one or two storylines of Dragonball.

There's a few more anime than that. Are you sure you weren't thinking of JRPG stereotypes?

Methinks Naruto falls into the same problem as popular video games like Halo. In spite of great popularity a lot of people don't seem to get what's so great about it.

When I initially watched/read Naruto I thought it was fairly average. What first stood out was Naruto's signature technique which I thought was an unusual choice for a male lead. Sasuke quickly hit the cliche male lead, possessing some boring fire techniques, so I almost felt like the series was a parody of cliches, including the fact that the only blatant kiss I recall is the one between two guys for comical effect. Probably the worst development in the series has to go to the female characters, at least until Tsunade showed up. The series really grew over time and gave seemingly shallow stock characters a decent roundness to them, sort of like what Kojima did with Metal Gear Solid before becoming too preachy.

To continue on the beaten path another thing I loved about Naruto was storylines. Like Dragonball Z, which I'd argue Naruto is a somewhat spiritual successor to, the series has blatant storylines that do a decent job of using an ensemble cast in spite of primary characters. There are no real one-off episodes (unless you count the anime filler, which I loathe) once the story gets going and its kind of nice. Plus people developing unique attacks helps characterize them and make them diverse, similar to the appeal of stuff like Heroes (a woman who wants to be strong gets super-strength, etc.). The awesome and varied stylish attacks also take the concept of the techniques from Dragonball Z to new heights by being more inventive thanks to the ninja theme, thus there are some pretty cool abilities that aren't necessarily for combat.

Finally, we have the protagonist. Naruto, a simple-minded idiot with great power and a decent amount of on his feet wit and understanding of his own limitation as well as balls of steel, is an ideal protagonist. It's because he isn't overly whiny (Kira from Gundam Seed comes to mind or that dick Shinn from the sequel) though he still is decently emotional and doesn't have blatantly strong charisma. In a way he's almost a parody of main characters as while he does possess decent charisma though seemingly stupid determination he isn't a stalwart hero like Cyclops from X-Men who's a bit of a dick. His character flaws also make him perfect for viewers to relate to as he doesn't seem to know anything unique to the universe thus exposition fits best when he asks, "Why this?"

Anyhow, that's why I think Naruto works. The action is decent, the animation is decent, the story is pretty typical but its all executed in a very compelling way which might be surprising to many.
very excellently stated points
I love how there are some people who can enjoy an anime out there
And I would kind of say that the story is pretty much typical for every anime involving fighting (fight one guy, get beaten, get stronger, defeat bad guy #1 then move on to stronger bad guy #2)

El Cazador De La Bruja was the worst piece shit that I ever saw and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles just felt like it was going absolutely no where...
