The Blue Pegs in Peggle. Always getting in my damn way.

What that doesn't count?

Ok from actual living/thinking antangonist. Probably Jacknife from Mirror's Edge I felt I didn't get enough information and conflict. Although Mirror's Edge plot overall is usually thought of none existence

Now I loved Resistance 2, but I never understood what the hell the story was behind Daedalus, I understand he had some kind of past with being created by Dr.What's-his-face, but I never actually understood his intentions or purpose as a villain.

OOOH EDGY!

But seriously, a villain who's only motivation for being so insanly evil is just for the sake of being insanly evil is NOT good characterazation.

SEE ALSO:

Makarov wasn't exactly evil just because he was insane. He had the same motive as Zhakaev, return Russia to Soviet times.

Shepard and Wesker weren't insane per se. Wesker was insane by the end of RE5, and Shepard just had a bit of an insane way of doing things. Like starting a war with Russia just to make the United States look good.

I've got to go with *spoiler alert!* General Shepard from MW2.

You know how frustrating it is when a video game villain betrays you, and it's so obvious that he was going to right from the get-go, but everyone still acts surprised? Shepard was the exact opposite. Everyone seemed to totally accept it EVEN THOUGH IT MADE NO GODDAMN SENSE!

Seriously, I've asked everyone who ever played the game why he suddenly started killing playable characters left and right, and nobody can give me an answer.

General Shepard, you are a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Wrapped in a stupid plot twist.
I was gonna go with Yevon from FFX but yeah I agree with you

Wait, wasn't Yevon basically just God? I got bored about three quarters of the way through that game and never finished, but Sin always seemed like such a pointless villain.

"Every few years, he re-appears to terrorize the world until someone sacrafices themselves to be rid of him, and in turn, become him!"
"So...why does he keep coming back?"
"Well...um...I guess he gets bored?"

Oh, and Gongora from Lost Odyssey. I'm sure he had motivations - something to do with a portal room and the other immortals - but he devolved into 'evil for the sake of being a dick, and also because I have the perfect facial hair for it' and I totally lost track of his motivations.

While we're at it, anyone who wants to rule the world. Only one in ten has an actual reason for wanting to do so - the rest seem to give "because I fucking want to!" as their excuse.

Probably any "Team" from pokemon games - they really dont have a motive other than to steal vaguely important things and take over random places...
Also, they get beaten by a single kid, so they're hardly the epitome of effectiveness and organisation...
I'm calling /thread. They have no motives, other than being evil.

Necron from Final Fantasy 9. Why does this...thing that I've never heard of right until I fight it at the end of the game have a beef with me? Does my reputation for kleptomania stretch into the shattered dimensions that lay between realities or something?
The one creature who revels in the undoing of existence shouldn't be cared of someone who just saved it.

in not going to lie, i actually forgot he existed in that game... but i think it was something to do with giving the earth back to the chimera? or maybe a bigger boss was needed.
OT: THE antagonist. because i wanted to be the one to make that joke.

My nominations (from any source - Games, TV and Books)

-The Psyclos from Battlefield Earth. 'Nuff said.

-Russel T. Era Daleks - They started out pretty effecutal, but as Russel's time dragged on, they started to slip into this...we call it bad writing ^.^

-Any anatgonist featuring in a game made (or produced by) Studio 1C. Case in point being the Reticulans from the UFO Trilogy. They started out as being badass in Aftermath, but in Aftershock and Afterlight they became pushovers. The only anatgonist that appears to break this rule are the Scourge and the Empire from the original Perimeter.

-What became of the Soviets in Red Alert 3. Then again, EVERYBODY got hit with this when Red Alert 3 came around the corner. Considering this is an RTS game as well, Your Mileage May Vary on who exactly is the Antagonist.

-Some races people make in Spore. This one however is more of a guess than an actual opinion, it's likey though that at least one exists out there (we suspect it's those of the Zealot Philosiphy).

I'd go for the general in Avatar. More just Cameron being lazy I guess, but the General was almost comically steriotypical. Wouldn't want to confuse the poor masses though...

I'm gonna go with the villains in FF9 in general. Necron comes out of nowhere having never before been mentioned, Zorn and Thorn are just annoying, Brahne was a blue meanie in a dress and Kuja would be better suited to dancing in a J-Pop music video. None of the villains were intimidating in the slightest. The only half-decent and cool villain was Beatrix, who turns good by the end anyway.

Sorry might be a few spoilers.

Fontaine. Hes just conartist who wanted to steal a city that he and ryan practically DESTROYED. Thats like trying to take over a guys house after you helped him burned it down.

I personally wouldve said "Fuck it, here have the city and try to restore it. Heres 500$ and all my adam. Go." Then sit back and watch as he gets beaten to death by the first splicer he meets. It wouldve been a smart thing to do before they fucked everything up but really, theres nothing left but crazy people/mutants and little girls with slugs. Overall bioshock was a good game in my opinion, but fontaine was a pathetic antagonist and a boss.

Also Im sure wesker deserves an honorable mention.
The part where it's shown him kicking your ass at the end just felt like an insult, if you were beating the crap out of him.
Wesker or fontaine? They both punch your face in a billion times before the needle even works.=/ They were both insulting when it came to cutscenes, but wesker was worse, simply because hes punching two people in the face and flaunting around his super powers while claiming insanity. It got really annoying after the first encounter, not to mention it makes no sense because he was SANE in resident evil 4.=/

Another one to back Nueemann's point - the villain from the Warriors. Tries to be intimidating and evil for fun, but is a real pansy.

Based on previous posts this may be controversial, but I liked Zorn and Thorn! They added some nice comic relief to the villains, and after the funless hours of final fantasy 8 the thing that made 9 better was not always taking itself seriously.
That and they had awesome theme music.

Also for the "final fantasy bosses at the end that appear out of nowhere" I'd forgotten about Yevon. I hadn't forgotten about the Cloud of Darkness from III. Now THAT'S bad characterisation.
"All the evil things that have been happening are a direct result of some kind of large pile of evil"

Liquid Snake in MGS.

He seems seriously peeved over the fact that Snake and him were born. It's just epic sibling rivalry really....
I will see your Liquid and raise you a Liquidus. Just plain annoying.

Nazis, because my final solution was forty-two, not kill all the jews...blacks, gypsies, arabs, homosexuals, political rivals, and really anyone they didn't like.
