I've got to go with *spoiler alert!* General Shepard from MW2.

You know how frustrating it is when a video game villain betrays you, and it's so obvious that he was going to right from the get-go, but everyone still acts surprised? Shepard was the exact opposite. Everyone seemed to totally accept it EVEN THOUGH IT MADE NO GODDAMN SENSE!

Seriously, I've asked everyone who ever played the game why he suddenly started killing playable characters left and right, and nobody can give me an answer.

General Shepard, you are a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Wrapped in a stupid plot twist.
He created a war so that he could get revenge for the atomic blast in the previous modern warfare. SAS knew the truth behind his motives and actions so he was merely tying up loose ends.

Final Fantasy has plenty of pointless Antagonists.

FFIII has for a final boss: a cloud of Evil. Square Enix couldn't be bothered to create a main villain that had any real presence or striking figure. Nope! Just a vague shape of black swirly stuff with half a naked (but nipple-less) Medusa coming out of it. Although, I couldn't careless about the plot in the game.

Final Fantasy XII is the same as the villains randomly add gods to there ranks it seems. Again, the plot just got convoluted and annoying to follow.

Soul Calibur doesn't have anything worth adding either. While Nightmare isn't pretty to look at, he's never shown to be genuinely evil except for the opening video. Neither are the final bosses (Abyss, Inferno, ect) that supposedly are causing everything to happen only to get there arses handed to them by even Talim. They just sit and wait.

I was gonna go with Yevon from FFX but yeah I agree with you
Wait, wasn't Yevon basically just God? I got bored about three quarters of the way through that game and never finished, but Sin always seemed like such a pointless villain.

"Every few years, he re-appears to terrorize the world until someone sacrafices themselves to be rid of him, and in turn, become him!"
"So...why does he keep coming back?"
"Well...um...I guess he gets bored?"

Oh, and Gongora from Lost Odyssey. I'm sure he had motivations - something to do with a portal room and the other immortals - but he devolved into 'evil for the sake of being a dick, and also because I have the perfect facial hair for it' and I totally lost track of his motivations.

While we're at it, anyone who wants to rule the world. Only one in ten has an actual reason for wanting to do so - the rest seem to give "because I fucking want to!" as their excuse.
Actually it's more like this:

Yevon was a man who discovered powers no one should ever possess during, if I remember correctly, a war where he was on the losing side. In a single instant, he wiped out his enemies by creating Sin, a beast of pure destruction. However, Sin was weak against machina (you find this out during the game when your airship does more damage to it than anything else), which was exactly what Yevon's enemies had been using to defeat him. Though he was lucky that his surprise attack had ended them, he knew that his trump card could easily be defeated if any one of the remains of his enemies decided to gather their resources and fight back. However, he saw a chance to grab unlimited power if he acted fast. Because no one knew about Sin other than him (and no one knew he created it) he decided to use that knowledge to shape the world as he pleased.

He invented a way to temporarily defeat Sin and gave this method to the world. After Sin was defeated, he was praised as the savior of the world. That's when he started his church, an organization designed to guide the world as he saw fit. He said Sin was the punishment for machina, making it so that people abandoned the technology that could actually save them. He kept control over summoners, the people who were capable of defeating Sin as well as Send the dead (make it so their spirits rest in peace rather than return to hunt the living). This meant that he controlled the protectors of the world, as well as the only people who could take care of the dead and stop the growing of more monsters, effectively giving his church control over the people. His church went on to be the biggest sponsor of the only sort of entertainment people had in a world where there was no safety in numbers, as it only brought Sin's attention. He owned the world lock, stock, and barrel and was thought of as a hero for it. As time passed, the church only grew stronger, meaning that the destruction of sin would cripple the world rather than save it.

Then you have the evils he did that are overlooked: trapping the summons against their will, making Summoners and Guardians go on a mission together where they will almost inevitably become best of friends, only to have the summoner die and the guardian become the next sin, and worst of all, not even giving you the ability to make him pay for his crimes as the only thing that remains of him is his power inside of Sin.

He's probably one of the best antagonists Final Fantasy has done since even at the end of the game, he's still considered by most people in the world to be a savior.

Sorry for the wall 'o text there. Anyways, worst that I can remember would be either inFAMOUS' final boss (crimes committed: not taking the easy route and just explaining the situation, not teaming up with the main character as well as the other two bosses in order to have the army and abilities he needed for a job they probably would have agreed to help with, and time travelling, God of War's Zues (there were so many opportunities for him not to get into that situation, and his lack of death meant a cliffhanger that you had to buy another system to finish), or RE's Spencer (for over 5 games this guy had been built up to be something almost omnipotent and extremely powerful. Hell, some people even thought he wasn't human, but rather the origin of the T-virus. Not only do we get no satisfation from him, be it death, appearance, or back story, but he's replaced by Wesker, someone who was a bit too stupidly evil. Of course, in actuality, it also turned out that he was stupidly evil as well which is another reason RE5 should have just left him out and kept him in our imaginations where he was a great antagonist).

Magma/Aqua: Ok, big ideas, but you have a rival gang to deal with, and that pesky trainer.
Galactic: dude... a little over-ambitious for a group that can't beat a 10 year old, don't you think?

Robotnik. I don't think he's been the last boss of a Sonic game since Sonic & Knuckles, now he's just pathetic.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. What happened to you, Eggy? You used to be awesome. I thought you may have been on a comeback with the Egg Emperor in Heroes... then you build a f***ing slot-machine robot in Shadow.

tabuu from ssbb. hes just... there. he wants to absorb the world into subspace. he didnt say anything about it harming the world. it wouldve just gone on.
I think he was just an excuse to not have Master Hand as the final boss in two bloddy game modes. He's just there to be there.

My own picks: ...shit, I had a big list of comic book villians, but now I can't think of any. I'll edit if I can remember any.

After the nukes went off in modern warfare one he was the commander when all those troops died.

"12 thousand people died in the blink of an eye and the world JUST FUCKING WATCHED!"

All the glory and prestige of his position died, people didnt want to be in the army after that.

"There will be no shortage of volenteers, of patriots...."

And it was people like YOU, spec ops, you went in, did one mission and fucked it all up for everyone. He hates you and your kind for what you do, and he the leader of the ground grunts had to watch as everyone he commanded, all the strategy he came up with died in a firey explosion. He blames you, even if its basically an unfounded blame. You ruined him. Everything he did looked like a disaster.

Jack Spicer,
as funny as he is, he's just not a good antagonist.
We needed chase young to have some more, physical presence of a real tangable evil. Jack sucked and the ghost couldnt really do very much even if she was rather impressively evil.

Well basically, he has to purge all machinary. Yevon created a Dream Zanarkand and sacrificed all the people of Zanarkand 1000 years before as it was at war. Yevon was a summoner and created Sin as the "Armor" for Dream Zanarkand. He lost his humanity eventually though due to not having enough power.

I'm going to have to say it: Bowser

He kidnaps a Princess just so he can hide stars in the most precarious locations in various themed worlds to foil an Italian plumber with a hat infatuation. Then they play tennis, shoot hoops, race, and play golf.

While Mario does it for the "cake" (Pie of the Mushroom Kingdom), why does Bowser keep kidnapping the Princess? He never even holds a ransom and she never sent him an ambiguous letter offering him cake. He just does it over and over again just to #$&@-block Mario.

Between Mario and Bowser, why hasn't one just planted a baseball bat into the back of the others' head an call it an "accident?"

The Soda Poppers. Amusing that they were evil, but annoying.

The world they live in is a strange strange one indeed.

If I was Mario, I'd just get with Daisy. Less Work.

Or one of those mushrooms...dirty little mushrooms....

I won't say they are bad at the characterization, but I'm getting pretty damn tired of the Russians being bad guys. We get it American studios, you don't like Russia, can we move on to someone else now?

Necron from Final Fantasy 9. Why does this...thing that I've never heard of right until I fight it at the end of the game have a beef with me? Does my reputation for kleptomania stretch into the shattered dimensions that lay between realities or something?
I believe he was the angel of death sealed inside the crystal that garland wanted to exploit and pop his soul into zidane so he would have an extremely powerful pawn to control. however when kuja casted ultima it shattered the crystal releasing him and he simply did his job and tried to return everything to a state of nothing prior to creation.

don't quote me on this, its just what Ive heard.

Ugh, I'd forgotten the plot-abomination that was FF12...
The plot didn't make too much sense tbh. And Fran the under-dressed over-sexualised rabbit was just awfully acted. Reminded me of the fake Amidala from Phantom Menace
The only real thing that saved the series were the human heroes in my book, except Vaan, but I could ignore him. But that's just my opinion :D

I'd go with Necron, mostly because it was my first intro to the idea of .'oh wait, there's something more evil here'. type of thing.

I kind of expected the Yevon thing at the end of FF10, but what I thought was disappointing was that you automatically got auto-life...then I found out why you had auto-life, yet somehow I get the feeling like one really just should have just set that up in a cut-scene or something, because you were just going through the motions.

the Destroyer from Darksiders was good, but really, the game was a little weak if they just went for something original..that or a cooler character since somehow Dante's Inferno seems to retain some sort of fanbase... >.>

Well just for the sake of making an obscure reference and I do hate the villain in general. Here's a quote, let's see how fast someone gets it:

"I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU TO DEATH!!!"
