Red Pyramid, and later Throne of Fire, weren't awful, but I agree in that the dynamic is over-used, and initially it feels very similar to The Olympians. The first set of books were great. But after that, it just felt like he ripped out the Greek elements and threw in Egyptian ones. I still like the books, but I can see easily where dislike exists.Giantpanda602 said:The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. Seriously, his first series was ok because it was interesting and different, but the entire thing where the twins act like they hate each other but really love each other is so cliche and annoying. It also never stops. I couldn't bring myself to get halfway through this book. Also, nobody cares about Egyptian mythology.
As for the most awful? Well I'm sure I'll get glares, but...honestly? Fellowship of the Ring. Yeah, I know Tolkien is like...untouchable as a fantasy writer and all, but I really just couldn't stand the damn thing. Mostly I think it was the pacing. You could probably cut out a third of the content and have missed NOTHING in terms of plot. WHY are we meeting random elves? WHY are we sitting at the gates of Bree for THREE DAYS?!
I understand he has an entire world and was trying to convey that. But it just took forever for the book to get moving and do anything and it drove me nuts.
