Crime and Punishment. Nothing happening, boring characters, annoying sub-ploys, nonsensical story, and Dostoevsky's redundant and dry writing made it unbearable.

It was some poem that said, in ye olde english and in far too many words, "Fuck me now or you're going to die and worms will rape your corpse."

Z for Zachariah was so incredibly boring. Every kid in the class hated it. That was Year 10 for us.

The Bible, it's terribly written, full of contradictions and the main character, God, seems to be just plain evil during the 1st half of the text.

"How to read Novels like a professor"

Took the author entire chapters to make a single point I could have made in a paragraph, and I already knew all the points.

Yes, that's the point, and I'm not saying that Salinger did a bad job getting said point across. But I just couldn't stand it. It truly was one of the worst books I've read for school. Not one of the worst books ever made, mind you. But I didn't enjoy it.

Also, awesome avatar. I love me some Dexter.
Ah, that's fine, plenty of things I respect but don't enjoy and Rye is one of them so we're not so different.

Aye, as do I, season 5 can not come soon enough.
Especially with how season 4 ended! I just screamed "That's not fair!" when 4 ended.

one book: the curious incident of the dog in the nighttime.

a book about the murder of a dog, seen from the perspective from a... well... retard!
and, it's just annoying!
the writer doesn't pay any attention to what's important and not, because his mother's name never got tolled, but he used 5 pages discribing the inside of a f@*&$ing train!!!

the story is about nothing, the main character is annoying, the book is badly written, has no logic, and is just more annoying than ANYTHING you can imagine!
so, if you need to torture someone, or feel the need to kill your brain, read this book, it'll work!!!

if anyone read this book, please give me your opinion.
The book is supposed to be highly edgy and interpersonal, especially when it's written from an autistic child's (first person) perspective. It's intended to alienate any normal thought you'd consider rational, and instead immerse you in a world you can contemplate, yet not fully revel in even if you try to. The main story is fleshed out and originates, from the main character's perspective; the whole desired effect being that you contemplate it from a perspective never told from in traditional media, an almost educative stance. You may find the plot arbitary, but by no means is it arbitary to an autistic child; such as the snowball effect from the intrigue with the dog, to finding his mother. Immersion is key. You wouldn't find an autistic child finding a dead dog and then going on an epic journey of revenge, blood shed and world shattering events.

It doesn't provide profound, genre and life defining enjoyment, or any such emotion, but a fabulously deep and varied exploration of how people and society flow. I find the book to be long lasting, bitter yet deep.

On a completely seperate note, I have never particularly hated ANY book I have stuidied; Pirde and Predjudice ranking highly among those I actually adored. ;D
I can see your point, and I don't argue that it is written from a interesting viewpoint, but the book does something that I hate: sacrifice readability to show us a point. the book was to slow, and the unneceserary details make it just annoying to read. (at least, that's what I think)

and I agree, that a epic journee for revenge or anything of the kind would just be silly

Pride and Prejudice. I couldn't stand the writing, I was so bored, I found myself interested in the way the paper folds rather than the dialogue...

Glad to know my sister and I aren't the only ones who hate that bloody story. Most ass numbing story ever. I pity you Kagim for having to read that bloody thing three times in your life.

The Shipping News. Utterly boring to read, and there isn't anything about the protagonist that is interesting or identifiable. Teacher only picked it because it was her favorite author.

Their Eyes Were Watching God -- Was expecting some intelligent, critical, borderline-heretic stuff. Instead I got an F on the test because I didn't read it.
The Great Gatsby -- ...Why... What is this?

But...I liked both those books! And I didn't even have to read it for school! D=

But I hated Grapes of Wrath and Amusing Ouselves To Death.

Two books, in the gymnasium (think senior high school), both were related to my swedish studies. I don't remember one of the book titles, but the other title translates as "The Evil".

Both were fictionalized biographies, and.... blah. They were bad. Had to force my way through 'em.
