whats confusing me is why they are featuring the co-op aspect I mean what about chell and GlaDOS? that story was a million times more interestingSn1P3r M98 said:I dunno, it just doesn't look right to me. Oh no....
I mean I wouldn't call it stellar but there are far worse out there.

Still, it looks great compared to that NTSC RE4. I actually sorta like the PAL version.
ah ok fair enoughPararaptor said:Sure I played the first game. I just thought, seeing as the second game is set so many years after the first it would have a different player character. And I thought it was the robots.Vault101 said:where did you get that idea? have you plaed the first game?
I think "a" robot is an important charahcter...but thease are the co-op robots I dont know why they featured them...its kida disconcerting

ok guy, aim for the duck. no, aim down you jackas-- oh my god, dave there is a giant dog behind you, don't look just run!
Thank you man, that was awesome.
while that is true I can definetly relate to her more than a robot, shes human, humans feel fear and pain what ever fear you might have felt while playing (or slightly creeped out) you can imagine she feels it too (you know if you wanna think that way)Pararaptor said:Chell really wasn't much more than a robot. No voice, no personality, no backstory.Vault101 said:ah ok fair enough
I havnt seen much promotional stuff but those two are for co-op mode, I know for sure they will have chell again (she was put back in stasis)
and I mean a human woman is much more compelling to play as then two random robots, plus it would just seem wrong to end her story right there and then
yes they are your actions and you can jump into the fire as many times as you like, but from the point of veiw of the story chell escapes and kills GLaDOS the game dosnt give you anyway options to go about it any other wayPararaptor said:They're not qualities or actions of Chell, they're your actions. I could've jumped into the flames at the end & Chell would've not seen her opportunity to escape, rather she just gave in to the inevitable. When an aspect of a character's personality is so variable, it doesn't really count towards the character's personality.Vault101 said:while that is true I can definetly relate to her more than a robot, shes human, humans feel fear and pain what ever fear you might have felt while playing (or slightly creeped out) you can imagine she feels it too (you know if you wanna think that way)
I mean you can actually work out some things about the charachter based on her actions (well your actions) shes obviously very smart, very brave since she didnt just give up when heading into the inferno and she was probably thinking "oh crap" like the player, and towards the end didn't belive any of GLaDOS's crap
why she dosnt talk...eather its just a gordon freeman thing or GLaDOS had her muted
as for her backstroy I bet she Porbably dosnt even know herself, she probably only knows as much as the player about the whole situation
sure it may be the same playing as a robot But I dont care for the robot as much..its jsut robot not a person where as chell is both a person and the player
I can feel the same empathy for a robot, an imaginary one in a film, book or game, that I can a human because the author can instill exactly the same personality into it as they can a human character.
I still think it would be a crime against humanity if you didnt play as her in portal 2 (main story), she's still an entity because she has an apearence, the story still goes that chell defeated GLaDOS and I sure as hell would want to know what happened to her, SHE is the playerPararaptor said:I still don't see that reflecting onto Chell so much as the player. The only reason they needed her was because you had to see a body as per the mechanics central to the game, if they didn't have that it could just be an unnamed protagonist. When that's the only reason you're a character, you're not much of a character.Vault101 said:yes they are your actions and you can jump into the fire as many times as you like, but from the point of veiw of the story chell escapes and kills GLaDOS the game dosnt give you anyway options to go about it any other way
I know her perpose is to fill the role of the player but Im just saying if you want to treat her like an actual charachter you can, in the end its HER that did it all like it was gordon freeman who defeated the combine
I prefer the idea that im playing as a human, and I supose I realte to her because in a way her and the player are on the same page when the game starts
like I said before makes you wonder what their focus for the game is....but I trust (and hope) they will do chell and GLaDOS justiceNintendolover222 said:FOR FUCKS SAKE WHY DID YOU FUCKING REMIND ME...Defense said:![]()
I'm not even joking around.
Seriously the worst box art Valve has ever come up with. For the guy who said The Orange Box had bad cover art, at least it was simple and concise. It covered everything it needed to.
Remember Portal's cover art? The Aperture Science two-dimensional diagram of a man and a portal? That summed the game up perfectly and fitted with the aesthetic design wonderfully.
What is up with this box art? These fucking robots aren't even the focus of the game's story, the conflict between Chell and GLaDOS (I'm assuming) is. It's like putting the faceless guys from the Spec Ops part of Modern Warfare 2 (only example I can think of) on the cover, nobody wants to see them there and its not why we bought the damn game (primarily).
Oh, but it's got the Companion Cube in the background! (EDIT: No, wait, it doesn't. Weird that they left everything from the first game out like that...)
/demonstration of exuberant fanboy rage.
But seriously, it's not like this is some hack developer pumping out another generic thoughtless title, it's Valve and Portal. The first had such good box art, and this just seems so bland for a game that looks like it'll be anything but.
