We had a recent virus outbreak at my work, and it's turning out to be a real pain in the ass.

We nicknamed it the 'Computer AIDS', since it spreads through thumbdrives and it disables your antivirus software.

Yeah, I know. I'm going to Hell for that one.

Anyway, my AV software was up-to-date enough to catch the virus on my home computer, but when it tried to remove the virus it wound up corrupting the registry (don't ask me how) and I had to reinstall windows.

I've had pretty good luck with viruses over the years and this my worst virus story that I can remember, but I know it's nowhere near as bad as some people's virus encounters. So what's your worst virus story, Escapist?

NOTE: To anybody who plans to say something like "I use Linux/Mac, so I don't get viruses! DURR HURR! SERVES YOU RIGHT, STUPID WINDOWS-USING PISSIANTS!", we all understand that your operating systems are so unpopular that hackers don't consider them worthy targets. However, some of us actually like playing games on our computers, so please don't troll.

Mine would be some custom virus my friend made or modified as security against hackers. We decided to test it on my computer (stupid thing to do). Burned out my entire hard drive... my antivirus couldn't stop it. Had to reinstall everything but it was still unstable, crashing every few hours. Had to get a brand new computer.

Before you ask, no, I don't have a copy of this virus. If you want it, go hack my friend's computer.

There's one out there called Virut, It like to infect all your .exe's and let your anti-virus destroy every program you have installed, including windows dll's.

Its Kinda old now and newer anti-viruses catch it but it can still cause major damage, also it like to jump to removable media such as flash drives, sd cards, floppys, etc...

its pretty bad.

Last count we had about 200 and something viruses. Only reason the computer's still alive is because the buggers are too busy going at each other.

There was the one my mate got where it would randomly download porn and bring up media player. That was not good.

in Win95 my dad sent his PC to get some service (dont remember what for) and a month later a worm (you heard me right, a WORM) started eating the screen, kind of a screen saver, but my dad got locked out of the pc and rebooting did nothing, we didn´t knew english and knew less about computers

so he sent it again to the repair shop, they charged him and sent the pc back

one month later it happened again

it happened in total 3 months in a row, untill my dad got a hold of a computer expert who opened the registry and found a scheduled program to run every month in the same date at the same time, the damn guy he sent the PC first installed it on purpose to have us go back to him every month

weird huh??

also, i managed to get a hold of a virus in a floppy (yeah obsolete stuff) that corrupted all the files in any PC that it got installed, i got it off a friend´s house and installed it in all the computers in my school *diabolic grin*

My mum did this one on our old family computer, she isn't very savvy with the internet and clicked on one of those download this amazing sparkly anti-virus stuff. Before we could stop her the damn virus knocked out our antivirus and we lost a lot of the data on the hardrive. She has been banned from the internet unless supervised.
Also i had a trojan horse running around which my bf had put on for some odd reason.

That is no virus!.
It is if your mom's looking. Or if it's gay porn. Or both...

The worst I got was a virus that made opening Task Manager impossible. Still haven't been able to figure that one out, so every time a game crashed on me, I'd have to unplug.

I'm not sure if it was a virus, but I was starting my PC and the button jammed in. The computer started and then shut down, when I finally got it unstuck, I tried to start it, but it gave an error and I could only get access to BIOS. My dad replaced my PC, but even before it jammed, It had some errors and I didn't really give it the proper care.
