Hey,

I was watching Children in Need earlier (A UK Charity Telefon) . And Susan Boyle appeared on stage to perform her "new single" , it turned out to be a cover of one of my favorite tracks ever , Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode. It was awful, lacking everything that made the original awesome

It made me wonder, what is the worst cover you have ever come across

For me it's a toss up between Celine Dion covering AC/DC

Or Avril Lavigne covering Metallica

I can't honestly decide which is more horrible

Wow. That is truly terrible!

Although Madonnas' version of American Pie comes a close second as worst cover ever...

Blaaaaagh. Jonas Brothers covering Poor Unfortunate Souls. Raped my childhood, and the music video was especially horrifying and pointless.
I beg of you, do not google it.

I don't usually like The Police, but I do like their song Every Breath You Take.

So when I heard some rap group ruining it on the radio, I was... less than amused.

That's a pretty good choice. I can't think of anything else better anyway.

Alexandra Burke's Hallelujah. Just awful. awful awful awful. She just had no passion, they made the song way too big and she just didn't have the life experience or talent to sing a song like that. The reason Hallelujah works, especially Jeff Buckley's version, is because at it's best it's sung by people who know real pain, who have dealt with addictions and losses. Burke was young and inexperienced with an incredibly cliche and average voice. Simon Cowell, screw you.

Metallica's cover of Whiskey in the Jar isn't necessarily awful, it's just bland and unimaginative. It's a slightly heavier version of Thin Lizzy's interpretation of the song with none of the passion. Just...bleh.

Papa Roach's cover of Gouge Away by the Pixies. Goddamit, it's the worst thing ever, and I actually love me a bit of Papa Roach usually (mostly out of nostalgia, but I'll defend Infest until the day I die).
