So today I log into StarCraft 2 which I have been doing quite well at recently. I have got to Platinum league with little hitch and was top 25.

5 hours later I am down 30 ranks, lost to a player 2 leagues below me, lost to every unconventional/stupid/rush strategy in the book and have ended the day on a 1:8 win ratio when my previous average was above the 1:2 average for wins : games played.

My wrists are bruised from slamming them on the table and I am ready to uninstall the game at this point.
But I won't. Sigh.

So, what is the worst day in gaming you have ever had? Had your favourite game bug out on the final mission? Online experience that left you willing to strangle small children? Share your rage :D

Starcraft 2 can put you on some unruly losing streaks sometimes. The matchmaker is positively sadistic. Having too much success in Bronze? LET'S SEE HOW YOU DO AGAINST A GRAND MASTER, SMART GUY. I remember having a really bad game with a (very inexperienced) 2v2 partner, we'd worked our way up into low gold. It was against 2 Diamonds. The good news is, thanks to all your losing you're going to get some creampuff matchups soon, because the matchmaker is now worried that you're secretly terrible.

I had a pretty bad night a couple of weeks ago. Had a frustrating sequence in Dark Souls (thanks, Havel), followed by something like 6 consecutive losses in DOTA 2. Discouraged, I told my girlfriend I was going to play the (terribly easy) NHL 13 to get a little confidence back and a nice feeling of success before bed. AI chose that moment to go full retard and just eschew the laws of physics, skating around in frictionless glory and scoring nonsense goals on the road to a couple of very suspicious wins. I went to bed extremely irate.

That moment when you're lauding a fighting game for its depth and strategy, and then lose against a button masher.

Playing Final Fantasy XIII.

Zing!

More seriously, the only time I've ever ragequit and uninstalled a game out of frustration has been Metro 2033.

In Chapter 4, there's a section where you're supposed to sneak, or something, through a camp of post-apocalypse Nazis. The problem is that the stealth mechanics and shooting mechanics in the game mean that unless you're extremely lucky, your silenced pistol (if you even have one) probably won't kill anybody in one shot, and once you've got that one shot off, every enemy in the entire area knows exactly where you are at any time. They have turret placements. They have grenades. They have shotguns and assault rifles. And you have barely any cover.

Now, maybe I was just playing the section incorrectly. I'm not so proud to deny that. But after dying in the exact same spot fifteen times, trying to run into cover while shooting a guy in my way because there were turrets above me and guys coming up behind me, I said "Fuck this!" and stopped playing.

Throwing knives. Completely silent and a one-hit kill so long as you don't hit their armor or guns by accident.

OT: Hmm...I remember this one time, years ago, when I was playing a Mario Party game (3, I think) and the computer was completely ganging up on me. This by itself was starting to piss me off. Was finally managing to turn the game around and the electricity went out. I threw my controller at the door as hard as I could. Didn't break, though. Good ol' Gamecube controllers.

Also, any time when I used to play APB: Reloaded and was put into matches against people that were blatantly botting/hacking. As in, using the very first pistol you get to kill you beyond clipping distance in two shots EVERY FUCKING TIME. And STABBAs. Fuck STABBAs.

I think I only had like four or five throwing knives at that point.

So.

Again, like I said, maybe I was just playing the section incorrectly. But I couldn't do it, and it was no longer fun and I no longer had any interest in seeing what happened next, so the game got uninstalled. I may return to it at a later date.

I'm finally on that big killstreak in CoD MW2, and just when I'm one kill away from getting my desired challenge done and leveling up, the connection fucks up, I'm booted out of the server, and all of my exp gained and kills...uh...killed, are gone.

Tables were flipped.

Yesterday, actually. Well, I'm sure I've had worse days but...

I was having a pretty gloomy day as it was and I like my videogames because they distract me. I wanted to install Netflix on my Wii (Don't judge) so I decided to set up my connection, which I've never done. After many tries, my installation didn't work. Something about an error code. Looked it up online and didn't find a good solution. Whatever, I said, and I turned on my PS3 instead to play Gotham City Impostors.

Like all games, it's fun to play unless you run into those guys who play 24/7 and get a little too upset about...everything. As it turns out, I was paired up with a bunch of them. So I don't like that. So I turned on my 360.

I was playing Left 4 dead and I was trying to join random matches because, by then, I only had a couple of minutes left to spare. I kept getting paired up with people who didn't know how to play and therefore, we couldn't even make it past a single chapter. So...I turned it off.
I guess you could say I didn't even get to play anything yesterday. :l

Every. Single. Time.

Back when Soul Calibur IV came out, I actually took the time to learn all the intricacies of Maxi (my fave SC fighter) and I was feeling really good about it. My girlfriend at the time, whose biggest gaming experience was Nintendogs, played against me. Out of four matches, I think she won like three of 'em until I reverted back to button mashing back. Turns out it was a helluva lot more fun that way.

The day I bought skyrim for ps3 thinking we'd get DLC. :O

They day I got mass effect 3 for my 360, and it bricks :O

Okay seriously, I saved up in mass effect 3 and was buying the packs trying to get N7 shadow. I finally get it after having tons of the others, only have my connection to the ea servers drop.

And not only did i not get the contents of the pack, but the credits I had spent on it was gone as well.

I have a Starcraft 2 story as well.

I was in a 2v2 team, upper bronze league. My second ranked match was against 2 players in the MASTER LEAGUE. (top 2% of players, I think)

Oh and more recently, I had a League of Legends game. I bought items and got into the grass at the bottom lane, and got called away from the keyboard for a minute, or so I thought(It wasn't anything important). Let's just say I was AFK for 4 hours since my parents don't seem to understand that I play certain games with other REAL people, and that I can't just quit and lose 5 minutes of progress and that if I get pulled away I ruin the match for 9 other people. Anywho, when I get back I have a bunch of PMs from the entire enemy team about how bad I was, and that I shouldn't play if I can't handle dying. (Since to them, I died, and sat in spawn until I timed out)

The most I've ever raged at a game was when I decided I wanted to get a nuke on MW2 (I had had plenty of 25 killstreaks before, but never bothered running nuke). For ages I just could managed it, then finally I was about to get it, but got killed whilst I was controlling a chopper gunner, on 24 killsreak. I got so pissed I genuinely turned the xbox off and went outside for the rest of the day.

Shadow of Chernobyl.
Game broke completely (couldn't be started and not even an uninstall would fix it) before Red Forest.
I think I may have shed a single manly tear.

The day City of Heroes got canceled.

I know MMO's get shut down, but generally not profitable ones. CoH was making money and the developers had years of updates in the pipeline for the future. NCSoft just decided they didn't want to keep making money from it and shut it down.

FPS servers full of hackers and gun/map glitch exploiters. People who try to get cheap kills and leave after you pick them off, only to be replaced by another like them. Leave a single glitch unpatched for long enough and it can kill off an entire community like a virus.

After not playing the game for about seven years, I start replaying GTA San Andraes. Spend an entire day on the game. Get super far in the story and finding collectables and so forth. Turn game off. Forget that SA didn't have auto save. Last saved never. Raged.

The only time I truly got upset at a game was when I was playing NCAA Football 10. I had 3rd down at the 1 yard line with like 30 seconds to go down by 6 or 7, QB sneak, didn't get in. 4th down comes up and there is 10 seconds left in the game, QB sneak, didn't get in. Threw my controller and managed to break my headset which I wasn't wearing. I was a little rustled.

Losing in that game is just so heartbreaking. You devote a good 30-40 minutes to a game and then when you lose it hurts, bad.

I had a day a few months ago where absolutely nothing would go right.

I mean, nothing. Absolutely nothing.

If I remember right, since I tried very hard to etch that day form my memory, I had a day off and spent it playing games with my friends.

Halo Reach - I'm highly proficient at the game, very good indeed and I've carried teams to victory before, but that day ABSOLUTELY nothing went right for me. Lost every game and it was my fault (mostly). I'd always look the wrong way, just miss a headshot, accidently frag myself, drive a vehicle over the flag carrier, get run over by a team-mate doing 3mph... The 2 games I didn't do overly-shit on? I get disconnected because my internet was being volatile back then. For 2 hours I either got trumped on by splitscreeners, or started to claw a comeback and DC right before the end. I do not understand how I was doing so bad.

So I went off, watched TV for an hour then returned when the router was behaving more stable. I jumped into a server on BF3 my friend was playing on with a team full of morons who were whoring vehicles or camping with snipers not doing recon, on Xbox, where every player is needed in the map capturing bases. That wasn't going to happen. My squad was the only ones taking it seriously, other than the entire opposing team. We ended up base-trapped for long periods of time, with the other team intermittently stealing our vehicles. So I go to their base in a jet, steal their helicopter, blow up our stolen helicopter with theirs, and get booted for stealing vehicles. the guy who stole our helicopter? A personal friend of the admin, so it was alright for him to do it, but not me.

So to calm down, I sending barely-controlled messages to the admin, who didn't necessarily apologise but offered to unban me. I told him "what's the point? I've lost my points now" - a respectable sum after 40 minutes in that game, and I think I was team MVP and 3rd on server - I shut the console down in a flustered rage, booted up my PC to watch some youtube or play a singleplayer game... and it blue screened and wouldn't boot back up.

I shit you not this all happened on the same day. I didn't have a single good experience in gaming at all, all day.

Singleplayer kept seeing me fail, my PC knackered itself and I had to salvage the HDD and reinstall windows, the few games I did okay in, my connection dropped before I could see the end of the match, and I ended up in a 40 minute battlefield game with a team of selfish idiots, run my corrupted admins who kicked me before it finished.
