It's caught my attention that some websites have utterly terrible design. A good example is the website which has so obviously stolen this ones URL, www.escapist.com. But for me, the grand prize absolutely must go to: havenworks.com. It is quite possibly the most garish, overcrowded, nauseating piece of web material you will ever witness. But has anyone else seen some spectacularly bad design choices? Even from outside the internet?
Worst. Design. Ever.

And my vote for worse site design goes to any pre-2000 website (usually "my web presence"). What the hell were we thinking? .gifs through the roof, terrible layout, text off the charts... eurgh. Sometimes I'm glad that most of these sites expired.

tigerdirect.com used to have a horrible web design. Looks like they fixed it.
I also have a problem with THIS sites layout: specifically, when they put ads on the side panels. One errant click and BAM, windows open up.

College websites. They never have what you need accessible, they try to do too much, and their coding is so sloppy it gives Microsoft shareholders wet dreams.
And before this turns into a battle of the OSes, let me just say that I run a Linux emulation on Windows (because I still need Windows for gaming) and I program in NOTEPAD. and occasionally in vim...

@ OP: yeah, the first time I tried to come to this site (like 3 or 4 yeaars ago now) I accidentally left out the "magazine" in the URL, and, yeah....... suck.
Yes, the poor design is intentional, but it's very well planned and masterfully done.

Sure, the design might be pleasing to the eyes, but the actual coding and community is terrible. All pockets of community are segregated, so one person will get only positive remarks, no constructive criticism, and stick to one type of art when they have more potential. And that's if they even get noticed at all. How many artists have fizzled out because they don't want to scroll to the VERY END OF THE SEARCH QUARRY. It's really damning for the website.
And that's on top of the loads of sick, sick art, humorless comics, and 'fan' renditions of characters...

The Escapist has some odd design choices, like being wider than almost every other site by a bit, and large background adds which mess with my multilink extension in FF. Also some of the adds break and cover up text.
