Marvel vs Capcom. Most unpleasable bunch of people I've ever seen.

They are never, ever satisfied with the roster. Some Brawl fans come in close second, however.

Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers

Most of those fans tend to be incredibly arrogant, close minded, and act entitled

The most ill-mannered, annoying group of fans out there are those people who are fans of soccer. Doesn't matter which team. All of them are like this when it comes to it.
Well; not exactly; you see- BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTT [http://myinstants.com/instant/vuvuzela/]

OT: I wouldn't exactly call it a 'fan base'; but people who only play guitar hero; CoD; and other sports games; and call themselves gamers

Football hooligans, christ! These guys have to be the most annoying assholes in existence. Not only do they take the sport way too seriously. They feel the need to wreck shit up in the streets if their team lost even a single match. I admit I do get disappointed when one of my favorite teams loses but I don't go cause riots in the streets. I generally just hate the pricks that take football too seriously.

Valve fanboys, specifically the Half-Life ones. Look, I loved Half-Life 2 and it's up there on one of my favorite games list but dear lord it's not the second coming of christ as you guys make it out to be.

Yeah I'm Gonna hop on the Cod / Twihard band wagon.
C.o.D players cannot accept that every title since MW1 / COD4 has been a reprint of that.
Not saying its an awful game... it is... but I'm not saying that =P

I use the same call sign here that I do on XBL. I sound either British or American depending on how you hear my mixed accent (South african / middle class English) and so on yet when I played a round on MW2 once I had 2 baby gangsta kids from the USA saying "Get the fuck out of here Dragunai, you fucking Chinese bastard," before I even spoke.

I then said "And how did you discern I was Chinese exactly? OH! you looked at my name and assumed, in that case S3RG34nt D34TH SN1PEZ you must be a ranking sergeant and a well renowned Marksman... Oh you're only 12 and a try hard? Mhhmmm I am disappoint"

Also had various CoD players from the USA ragging me for being British by claiming I live in London as I live in England... guy literally said "Do you live in London" in a mocking voice then instantly dropped out the lobby.

I had 2 English chav scumbags try and fail to give me aggro by saying "Don't you think you're too old to be playing video games," to which I responded "I'm over 20 and playing an 18, I'm the target audience you failed abortion,"

Twilight fans aren't as bad. They prefer to live in the denial that Twilight is simply Romeo and Juliet rebooted with failed Vampires and a chick who is uber suicidal for no other reason than to hook in the emo crowd.

I will go with Naruto, bleach, and dragonball Z fanboys. They can be very obnoxious. An honorable mention goes to fanboys/girls of COD , halo, twilight, and bieber.

1. Any major sports
2. Touhou (Seriously not everything has to be made into a Touhou version, and i say about a good 50% of the fan-base has never played the games and only like it because they want to f*** the characters)
3. Anime (Just most anime and those who love Anime in general) The art style isn't 'Unique' almost all anime looks the same and no matter how many times i get people recommend me their favorite anime i will still not see it as the second coming of Jesus

Oh lawd, after reading this worryingly comprehensive list of everything to hate / defend ever, I think the most annoying fanbase would have to be ALL OF US.

Seriously, we should all try and be more tolera- ah screw it. I hate Twilight. I cant tolerate that poorly written shite.

I'm going to be very broad and say any group of fans who base their opinion on ignorance. I've attempted to hold a discussion with people ranging from 10 years old to adults 10 years older than me about the merits of the PS3 over the 360 and the 360 over the PS3. Or hell, PCs over Macs and Linux, etc, etc. More than half the time all I get is crap stats and 'fanboy lines' about why X is better than Y and Z isn't even in the same ball-park. If you are unwilling to even acknowledge something could be right because it doesn't fit with the "facts" you know, then please stick to talking with other fanboys. Those of us who would like to see things improve will be having actual discussions.

In gaming terms, JRPG fans by a wide margin. Every time I get even remotely interested in the genre, the sheer level of obnoxious behavior by the fans pushes me away once more.
You should talk about JRPGs to/with me. I'd like to think I'm not obnoxious regarding them. But YMMV.
Maybe I should! At the store I hang out in (and at Gamestop where I worked) the JRPG fans constitute most of the Yu-Gi-Oh CCG fanbase, and those two topics are all they talk about. Every time we (me and other friends) watch Youtube gameplay of non-Japanese games, we invariably have to hear about how Japanese games rock, how Western games all suck, and how fucking Naruto would do such-and-such.

Urgh...

Zelda, Battlefield, Call of Duty and Final Fantasy. I find each of those to have terrible fan bases, even though I'm part of two of those groups.

Non-game fan bases, though? My Little Pony, Bieber & pretty much all those terrible emo bands fan bases are terrible.

Also stoners, if they count.

I'm pretty sure that being a gamer has one criterion: you play games. Guitar Hero, CoD and sports games are games, so the people who play them are gamers. Don't be elitist.

OT: The worst kind of fan bases, regardless of the sport, are the fair-weather fan bases. I'm from Philadelphia, and as much crap as we get for being terrible people, you have to admit that we're loyal. Sure, we have our share of fair-weather fans who will trickle away from the Phillies games when we start to lose, but our central fan bases is as loyal as they come. I can't stand the people who will only support their teams when they're doing well. They need your support way more when they're losing, people!

The Fallout fanbase is in a state of constant war that has little hope of changing, ironically enough. You either have the veteran fans who insult Bethesda for committing the cardinal sin of making a first-person, semi-real time game, or you have the people who dismiss the older games out of hand simply because they're old. The veteran fans are worse, in my opinion, probably because they've been engaging in flame wars for ten years now and they've gotten really good at it.
I always feel bad that i came in to Fallout when it turned into an FPS and i know for a fact right now i could go up to Best Buy and get both 1 and 2 for a total of 20 bucks but i am too afraid that i wont like the games. Does that make sense?
You're right to think that you might not like them. Combat is a bit clunky and procedural, the interface could be a bit better, and both games suffer from bugs. That being said, they're some of the best-written RPGs that I've ever played, with an interesting take on the "post-apocalyptic" setting and genuinely deep moral choices. I'd recommend picking them up- if you like them, great; if you don't, nobody can call your opinion wrong, and you'll at least know for yourself.
