This movie sucks, a lot. Nothing happens, nothing is resolved - pointlessness in its entirety. I almost walked out, and I was seeing a free preview screening...

Nothing will beat John Carter in terms of tanking this year though.

I don't remember, I kinda blanked it from my mind. I think he mostly did a lot of weed. The whole movie felt like one big crappy trip to be honest!

I thought the hunger games was awful beyond all reason. Poorly shot, poorly acted, poorly edited, bad direction, and unlikable characters.
I concur. I found no enjoyment in 'The Hunger Games' whatsoever, it's definitely not the best adaptation I've ever seen. I don't know, I just felt that it was strictly designed and marketed towards teenagers (which it is), cashing in on the whole 'teen novel to film' idea. I don't know, I can barely articulate myself when it comes to THG.
I agree with both of you.
I actually read the books before watching the movie and I gotta say, it was terrible. The camera man looked like he was constantly having a seizure and the acting was just terrible, jeez show some emotion!

Am I the only one that realises that it's still only May? I don't think I've actually seen a movie released this year. The Grey, was that this year? Not that it matters, that film was good.

Battleship looks pretty crappy. I'll say that.

It's a shame I found it enjoyable if not spectacular for the most part. But yeah it did not do great.

Well, uh. OP is off to a bad start, but...

I saw the Dictator last week, and didn't really find it worked particularly well. For starters, Cohen is playing an African dictator, whilst all stereotypes on which the character is based are clearly arabic.

Secondly, whereas in Borat, you had a character making these bizarre offensive remarks in regular situations, and half of the joke was the reactions of the unsuspecting victims of his pranks, the Dictator is a scripted movie. This means you don't have the awkwardness of people reacting to racist jokes, you just have racist jokes.

That's not necessarily a bad thing; it depends on how good those jokes are- but the Dictator's were quite hit and miss. It certainly had its moments- the helicopter scene, the first ten minutes("Do you want the Aladeen news, or the Aladeen news?"), etc- the rest just fell flat.
Objection! Cohens character in The Dictator was based mostly on Muammar al Gadhafi, former ruler of Libya, a country in the north-east of africa. And while Borat was shot in a documentary style it wasn't, in fact, a documentary... it was just as scripted as any other movie.

Still wasn't a particulary good movie...

I saw that only a few days ago and I already forgot I'd seen it.

Yeah. It was a really bad movie. Half the time he was just saying racist shit, with no intention of making a punchline. If they had done it documentary style, I think it still could have had some life to it. Playing with stupid peoples' irrational fear of Islamic men could have made a great movie.

But damn, it was a bad movie.

Pretty sure the reactions of the various randoms to Borat were not scripted - they were not in on the joke.

I hope to god it's not going to be Starship Troopers:Invasion. It's going to fail as a Starship Troopers film but as a sci-fi action film I hope it succeeds.

O___o Wut. Now I'm not an elitist that only thinks certain devotion constitutes "gaming".........but that is not a movie about gamers. Not a single t-shirt with a pop-culture/gaming reference? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE!?!?

Nothing in that movie looks entertaining.

Yea I myself found it a really enjoyable movie with great action sequences, despite the characters being a tad bland. I don't know why everyone is hating on it, but then again all but a couple movies a year get shit on by the internet so I have no idea what to expect.

Another vote for dark shadows - an incredibly terrible and nonsensical plot. would rather watch a twilight movie than suffer through this again

So far, it has to be Battleship, although I kinda admire the cajones on whatever guy who figured "Battleship movie? Why the fuck not?", but there's still plenty of time for something to suck harder.

Whatever happens, 2012 will be remembered as a good year at the movies just for The Avengers alone. Friggin' fantastic, to the point where I wish someone would show it to Michael Bay, frame by frame, in order to teach him what separates a good action movie with potentially very silly subject matter, and, well, what Michael Bay does.

The Avengers sucked quite hard.

Somehow worse the sum of it's very average parts.
I'm generally curious, what didn't you like about The Avengers, specifically?

I'm surprised to hear about Dark Shadows. The trailer never really interested me that much, but I figured it would at least be average.

Battleship looks awful, and not even the "so bad it's good" kind of awful. Anyone who has seen it: would the movie be entertaining to watch with a group of friends riffing it? Also, why does Liam Neeson insist in being in every awful film? Is the man just incapable of saying no to scripts?

While I agree with most of the comments made so far in terms of films sucking, why hasn't anyone said Wrath of the Titans?

WRATH OF THE FUCKING TITANS PEOPLE!!!

There just... aren't words. The sheer pointlessness of the film incurs so much rage, but the fact that it so blatently pisses all over Greek mythology. Holy fuck, Immortals was more true to the myths than this shit, and that was fucking awful.
