Hello Escapist, quick question for you:

What are some of the worst things that have happened to you seconds after opening your eyes in the morning?

A few days ago I woke up with a big wolf spider on my cheek. That freaked me out royally.

Back when I was at summer camp, I once woke up seconds before falling off of the top bunk. I was conscious of the slipping at the last second.

One time I woke up and hit my head on the top shelf piece of my bed.

...

Your turn!

Quite often I wake up and find I can't move. =/ "Sleep Paralysis" or whatever. (If that counts.)

Urghm, I once (as so many others) woke up and hit my head on my nightstand/shelf/whatever you have close to your bed.

Another time I woke up with my headset wire wrapped all around me, and there was blood all over the pillow (random nosebleed while sleeping anyone?)

This. Though it's only happened to me once, and luckily I knew what it was. Still wasn't too nice.

I once woke up after a drunken night out in the pond at the bottom of my garden no idea how i got there, numb from the waist down and when Removed my clothes I was covered in leeches which had been there for god knows how long and were bigger than I'd ever seen before.

Ever been hungover and really frightened not a good combination.

One day, I woke up and realized that my alarm hadn't gone off and I was late for a trip my college was taking to Chicago. So late, in fact, that there was a very good chance that I was going to get left behind. This is made worse by the fact that I was one of the people who organized the trip.

I've never had something scary/bad happen as I wake, I just get the annoyance of being unable to easily go back to sleep after being woken up before I wanted to.

Care to explain?

And I think once I woke up on the floor with my bedroom TV on top of me, not sure how it happened.

Thinking, "Oh man, there's only 3 women in my bed instead of the usual 4..."

Or seriously...

Waking up in a bath as somebody slapped me in the face with a wet towel.

I once woke up and was completely blind for a few seconds. Another time I somehow managed to block bloodflow to about 50% of my body while sleeping. Millions of pins and needles.

I wake up and am sluggish and weak. I can move, it's just hard to. That doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while.

I once woke up mid fall. I rolled out of bed and faceplanted, but woke up right before smashing my face.

So thats what that is? Man alive did that ever freak me out, happened a few times in the past... almost glad to hear its not just me who goes through that, but yeah thats awful *shudders*, thats probably the worst thats ever happened to me.

Second worst I'd say is waking up to my cat sat on my neck, she was a kitten back then so not exactly huge but still heavy and uncomfortable when sat on my neck!

I've had an arm be dead when I wake up (can't move it or feel anything in it) but that's the most paralysis I've had when waking up.

A bit more than a year ago, my mom woke me up by telling me that our cat was dead. I walked outside and found her lying on her side in front of our door.
I'd had her since I was six.

Once woke up in a hospital bed, with my family around me looking totally terrified. I was so freaked out I immediately just tried to stand up and figure out what was going on. Luckily I was held down as I had my leg broken in 2 places. Weird that I didn't notice it for a good few moments. either the pain or the weird angle my foot was facing.

turns out I'd fallen out of bed and landed awkwardly on my leg, breaking it once then apparently sleep-stumbled out of my room only to fall down the stairs and knock myself unconscious, also breaking my leg in a different place.

to this day I dunno how I remember NOTHING of doing that. all I remember is waking up afterwards.
