I don't mean the quality of the game, I mean a game that makes you go "Who the hell classified this?" games that simply do not fit with what they are called.

I think Bioshock is the Worst. It's a shooter with upgrades. Just like Wolfenstein.

What do you think is the worst example of calling itself FPS/RPG? Or any genre for that matter.

Who called Bioshock an FPSRPG? I've only seen it called an FPS most of the time, it gets mentioned in FPSRPG discussions because it's a spiritual successor to System Shock and because it plays like an FPSRPG more than it plays like an FPS.

I don't really understand why are the developers forcing this FPS/RPG morphing. It's like they're trying to add some "depth" to the gameplay while they actually make games annoying. They should just stop c/p-ing System Shock and Deus Ex and make a normal shooters.

i don't understand any of these new genres really, it seems like people are just running out of gameplay ideas to me.

An FPS RPG that is missing either RPG or FPS?

Well, Bioshock isn't much of an RPG. It doesn't even have leveling or stats. It just a single moral choice repeated over and over. Save the little girl or kill her?

Kill her. Every time. The only damn thing it changes is the ending cinematic, so there's no penalty. Just extra adam. It's also one of the worst examples of a moral choice system.

Fun game though.

Actually, saving them gets you items and the Hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid.

Fallout 3. I know, I'll get flamed for this, but I never found myself liking it. I guess if I was into the "open world, it's yours to explore, get on it" stuff, I would have liked it more, but I like having a clear direction for play. Bioshock had direction, but piss-poor plotting. It was like it was trying to be a Silent Hill game, without any of the good things in Silent Hill.

Wait... what? Crysis and Soldier of Fortune? When did these become genre-benders? And who said BioShock was an FPS/RPG? I think you guys are blowing things out of proportion. Just because it has lite-rpg elements, doesn't mean it considers itself an RPG...

Much as I love it, I think calling borderlands an RPG is a bit much. It is kinda reminicent of a hack'n'slash MMO like Guild Wars though.

I just wanted to say I love your Avatar. That Lich is the best evil character ever.

Did mass effect consider itself an rpg shooter, if so it can go suck elsewhere
