I have recently broken my leg so I am stuck at home for a while. I decided to break out Vampire: the Masqurade- Bloodlines to kill some time as I had never finished it before due to the bugs but with the leg, nothing to do, and a new fan made patch that fixed a so many things I figured I would give it a go.

I have loved every bit of it, no crashes, not to many glitches and out of the few I had none of them were gamebreaking.

I then started a quest called Out for Blood. Was going well and then after a very tough section (will not say what for those who have not played it) I went back down this mountain in a cablecar to see that a friend (Jack) was waiting for me. He tells me to get into his car and then it freezes. Cannot get it to work, cannot find a solution online. I looked and it is the 2nd to last mission before the end!!!!!!!!!!

I decided that creating a thread where I and others could vent was better than snaping my keybord in half, even if it is no where near as satisfying.........

I can only remember having two game-breaking glitches, but both were incredibly frustrating:

The first was in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. About a quarter way through the game, there's a cutscene in which the Dahaka breaks a wall you eventually have to platform you way to so that you can climb through the hole he created. However, a common glitch for the game is that the cutscene never triggers, or the wall reforms after it goes back to gameplay. The end result is a room that is impossible to get out of. Needless to say, I wasn't too thrilled when I ran into that glitch during my first play through.

The second was Arkham City. I think it was about half way through the game when you fight Joker shortly after he has been "cured". The game could never make it through the cutscene at the end of the fight without freezing, and I tried to make it through about five times before accepting that it couldn't get past the scene. I haven't heard of anyone else having problems with that section, but as far as I know, the disc is not damaged, so I'm assuming it is a glitch. Part of me wants to play the game again because I did like it, but with no guarantee of making it past that section, I really am not sure I want to spend the time getting there.

I reached the end of Grand Theft Auto IV to discover that the final mission was unbeatable due to a glitch that makes it impossible for you to complete a certain and pointless quick-time event. The only thing that took the sting out was the knowledge that, thanks to faulty game construction, I didn't have to complete a quick-time event. Strange mixture of feelings.

To this day, the glitch remains unfixed by the developers.

On the Xbox, Advent Rising had a cutscene at the start of an early-game mission while you're in the process of leaving Earth (if I remember correctly) where the main character entered the level by falling or jumping down the side of a building, basically. At least that's what I assume based on my memory, it's been a few years. The only problem was that there was a 50/50 chance of the camera becoming stuck on an opening shot of the building and never panning away to actually start the level, requiring you to hard reset the console because you couldn't pause the game to restart or skip the "cutscene".

I mean, at least it was early in the game and a simple enough fix that didn't make you lose a ton of progress, but the consistency with which it occurred still boggles my mind to this day.

I think the only game I've ever stopped playing because of technical issues (at least that comes to mind) is Tribes: Vengeance, first-person shooter made by Irrational Games on a custom modification of the Unreal 2 engine. I was having a blast playing the game, and I'm not sure if it was my PC, the engine, or just some weird hardware/software thing, but it's probably one of the games I've gotten the most random CTDs while playing. I'd like to give it another go, but hell if I can figure out how to make it more stable.

And this isn't one I personally had, but Cameron's LoadingReadyLive stream of XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Impossible Ironman wouldn't let him play the final cutscene of the game while he was streaming. He took out the final "boss" something like five times, and each time the game would crash during the final cutscene, which just so happened to also be unskippable.

Most memorable one I have comes from Viking: Battle for Asgard. I was basically playing for a good few hours and finally reached the last boss, I was just beyond fed up with the game by then and just wanted to get it over with.

So to give some background the boss follows that usual "hide behind shield, spawn mooks you have to kill, only lower shield for damage then" formula and it was tedious as hell to fight.

So I was down to the last one and it somehow not only clipped into her shield, but its AI also died, leaving it just standing there just far enough for me not to be able to hit it, the only option I had was to restart the whole freaking fight over again. What really was the icing on the cake though is that I had throwing axes that for some reason go through her shield and damage her, but I used them all in the beginning so that little thing there cost me the whole fight basically. I ended up shelving the game and never played it ever again.

Telltale's Walking Dead had a bug in chapter 4 that would not only break the game, but corrupt your save file.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 had a game breaking bug that was never fixed or patched. In a fight with Darth Vader, the game would lock up. I tried the fight ten times and each time ended with the game locking up. The only fix, buying the game again and hoping it wouldn't lock up. This was for PS3.
