Has to be Witcher 2. Yes, the enhanced edition as well. Most broken, unrefined, "RPG" I have ever played.
Quests are annoying and broken (Doesn't even tell you when you finish a quest sometimes / "Find" the NPC).

Combat was either so boring, or completely unforgiving for the wrong reasons. Drank the wrong potion before battle? might as well re-load the save and not bother.

Story was all-right, but nothing to brag about (Yet it still does). I did drag myself all the way through, and wasn't impressed.

The Map, while looks good, was horrible in design. Garald (I think thats how you spell it) can climb and take out a Kraken, But a small rubble blocking the road? Oh well, can't just friggen climb over it, gotta go a different route. Oh a small 1-foot ledge? better go around the long way. ect

Also, cutscenes that insta-kill you. Nothing you can do about it.

If this was any other RPG, it would be considered a failure or a terrible game, but for some reason (Probably because of all the sex) it got a free pass.

Mine would have to be from a much older generation of gaming. Fantasia, the Tick & Dark Castle for the Megadrive are three which come to mind, as is Dragon's Lair for the SNES.

But for this gen? The one game which I found an absolute abomination was Mass effect 3. I just didn't play it, it played itself and 4 hours in I've barely done anything. It wasn't "bad" as such, it was just a non-entity of a game.

If you're talking about which game did allow me to participate and I actually hated playing then the two larger named titles which stick out are Dragon Age:2 and Halo 3 - both felt like a punishment they were that much of a chore to play.

Just wondering how many hours you got in to the game? Also what system you played it on?

PC, I am pretty sure it was 2 or 3 hours before uninstall. AND that was mainly because I didnt had anything else to do at the moment and I was bored as hell. The game didnt exactly helped...

I am sorry if I came of as incredibly harass or a mindless hater, but I just cant help it, its my honest opinion about it. I fail to see what people see in that game, but if it is fun for them, then good for them I guess.

Sigh. Dear god, either people in this thread have insanely high standards or haven't played that many games. I was expecting stuff like Big Rigs or something. Not the games suggested here. (A small section of) Escapist members, I am disappoint.

As for me, I actually had the (dis)pleasure of playing Big Rigs at one point a long time ago, so that definitely takes it. Runner up goes to Bus Driver, but I'm not even sure if that was intended to be a game.

I'll probably go with Lord of the Rings. The old RPG one. Now I admit right away that I never bothered with the manual, but the lack of any sense of scale or direction made the game so boring that I could never stand it for more than half an hour.
Was that the one where the characters were a bunch of copy-paste lookalikes of the trilogy's main cast, to the point where they were following unseen in the Fellowship's shadow and reusing their dialogue verbatim?

Minecraft.

The graphics are horrible and I think my copy is broken because I can't figure out where I'm supposed to go to start the plot.

On a serious note, Heroes of Might and Magic 4. Buggy, broken and the moment that series fell off the cliff.

Spyro: enter the dragonfly. I've played some sinkers in my life, but note this: This is the only game to date that I have ever thrown into the garbage. I have had many suck-tastic games, but I will NEVER throw out a game.

So that means that this piece of shit really pissed me off on a subconscious level.

No, the characters in that one were the main cast. I think it had been originally released in 1990. And to be honest, there probably was a big level of disappointment at play there - I was hyped for a LOTR RPG (that was back when I was obsessed with Middle-Earth), while the game was probably a 5/10.

Extreme Paint Brawl was an old DOS PC game I picked up when I was really young. It has gone down in history as being the only game I was so frustrated with that I put pen to paper and wrote a rather lengthy and unhappy letter to the developers.

I mean, really? Just look at this garbage?!

Sneak King for the XBox.

I bought it because it only cost .99 cents. After playing it, I discovered It was highly overpriced.

I wouldn't suggest getting it in less you're being paid at least ten bucks to take.

Dark Souls.

Just a cavalcade of broke-ass design and completely wrong headed approaches to difficulty. I wouldn't have put this here, but the sheer number of people who like this game and rush to rabid defense of it just makes me hate it and everything it stands for.
Would you prefer it if people liked it but didn't talk about it?
They can talk about it, that's fine. It's when I say I don't like it for X reasons, and they jump down my throat, calling be things like "casual", and saying I need to "learn the game" so I can "experience the sense of accomplishment."

I've had so many fans of this game up and dismiss any faults of the game. It's really frustrating play and talk about.
Well that kind of approach to stating your opinion isn't really asking for a good discussion. Eh, in short, i'd disagree mostly. But there are some goofs on it, but hey, what doesn't goof? I think it's a really good game, though there was a time i'd agree thoroughly with you.

Well, i'll start with mine... it'd probably be something like Dead Island or Bulletstorm. The former being a pretty boring and terrible game, and the latter being even more boring that I just put it down and walked away. That was the first time in twenty two years i've ever just put down a game and walked away. I only got like an hour in, but I think that says something.

Any modern sonic game is pretty horrible.

I nearly said sheep, but lets face it that game is amazing.

*thinks*...got it. The simpsons wrestling for PSX. That game was poorly designed and just plain cringeworthy. I could almost smell the desperation being emitted from the game as I was playing through it.

Not all mate you didn't to me, it's your opinion and your experience of a game so your perfectly entitled to it.

What I would say is, if you ever find time/money to try it again it may be worth another go, and see if you feel the same around the 5-6 hour mark.

I know it's quite a lot of effort to invest in a game before you start enjoying it, but I was in a similar position to you, and upon return I was hooked and now class DA:O as one of my fave games ever. One of the main differences for me was trying a different character class and using a beginners guide too, (mages & rogues are way more fun than warriors IMO).

Just a suggestion though chap, I wouldn't force it on anyone, but I look back at my own personal experience and am eternally grateful I gave it another blast.
Thank you for actually begin comprensive.

Honestly thougt, I doubt I will ever touch it again, especially since it supposedly requieres 6 hours to actually get to the "good part". Honestly, It just dosnt seems like my kind of game from the get-go. That may be the problem.

I am more of a Skyrim person, hell even maybe Fallout 3 Cant stand so much dialoge and all of that. I want more action, more GAMEPLAY (And apparently even DA fans themselves dont consider the gameplay the strong part of it). I mean, even Alpha Protocol, a game that was full of dialoge and all of that, had SOME decent gameplay on it. In fact I expected DA to be somewhat like Skyrim. That was obviously my fault and absolutely retarded so I dont blame the game for that- but its just a fact: I and DA dont go together-

(The whole post sounds a lot more dramatic that it is suppused to be lol).

Ah, I think I was thinking of The Third Age. A game where I suddenly remember it ending with you literally duking it out with the fiery Eye of Sauron on top of his tower.

...Don't play it.

Though many would disagree with my choice this game made me throw away the game case because I was so disappointed in how wrong everything felt to me.

Neverwinter Nights 2

I know it received solid reviews but when it came out it was a just a broken mess; endless patching, bad camera, horribly broken and really power hungry considering that it wasn't a pretty game to begin with.

The original Neverwinter was really worth the entire experience simply for the amazing Hordes of the Underdark expansion. I guess I was expecting the sequel to take that game as a stepping stone forward but I just couldn't bother to play it with all the technical difficulties.

This is definitely not the worst game ever and I am blatantly aware of that but it is one of my biggest disappointments in a franchise that I love...which unfortunately turned into an MMO..

Other honorable mentions:

Command & Conquer 4 - Was this the way to end a beloved franchise? changing core game mechanics into something else entirely?

Rage - If I ever gave the first Borderlands the critique of feeling to empty (for a none-coop experience) than compared to Rage it would feel like mardi gra. Rage has beautiful graphics, killer character animations and sounds but that's it really..Not a game but more of an ID Tech 5 engine demo.

Fable 2 & 3 - Peter Molyneux's ode to "I do not listen those who play my games" simply demonstrated how a studio can make the same mistakes two times in a row while learning nothing from community feedback and reviews..Focusing on the wrong things in the game while neglecting to change or balance an outdated and easy to abuse combat\skill system.
Because the first Fable has a special place in my heart it made Fables 2 & 3 all the more disappointing for me.

I dont want to say that this is objectively the "worst" game but by far the most disappointing game I've ever played was Final Fantasy XIII. I don't know, for whatever reason I was incredibly psyched for its release because it was the first FF game for the 7th generation and the trailers showed some phenomenal graphics. I am also clearly a fan of the franchise as a whole. Then it came out and I realized that thats all it was - phenomenal graphics. The level design is absurdly linear, the gameplay is horrid as every repetitive battle is essentially on autopilot with the player having next to no control and the story is the most convoluted garbage. The graphics ARE very pretty though...

So yeah, of course there are worse games out there but this one really felt like a tremendous disappointment.

The Coronation Street game.
Fuck you for not making that video before I played the 'game', Caddi.
I would've actually put The Last of Us here, but then I realized it was entirely for the sake of /those/ kind of fans of the game, who put the game above criticism and jump down your throat if you don't yell it's 10/10 to the heavens.

For me, it has to be Too Human.I just HATED that game, I've played lots of bad games, but honestly this was the first game in my memory that i could find nothing redeemable about, the story was bland. The enemies were total BS, (at least in single player) and the death scene. OH WHY THE DEATH SCENE EVERY SINGLE TIMEDGLIHDSFLSGINSGoGNWROIHHOG>F.
*takes pills*

*right...*

err so yeah not a fan of that one.
