Worst human being in history?

Ask a good majority of people, especially Americans, who the worst person ever to walk this Earth would be, and they'd probably say Hitler, and understandably so. However, some other people in history are often over looked, Prime Minister Tōjō for instance led a massive genocidal campaign on the Asian continent, Stalin killed far more of his own people than Hitler did, and Hernán Cortés arguably wiped out an entire civilization (you might be able to throw Christopher Columbus in with him too for the multiple islands of people he exterminated.)

Out of all the genocidal maniacs whom you have ever learned of, who would you say is the worst of the worst?

Why does this matter? Why are you even concerned with who was the "worst"?

Worst is all subjective. You'll never, ever come to an agreement on this. Stalin did help Russia. For Russians, I'd say he was a pretty good leader. He brought them out of social chaos and implemented a system that made them nearly grasp top super power. He united the whole country. Without Stalin, Russia today would probably be a worse place. But he also was responsible for policies that killed millions. How can you judge either?

More food for thought, Barack Obama (and George Bush) are most likely responsible for policies that have killed more people than Osama Bin Laden ever did. But who is worse? I think we'd all agree Bin Laden, but a member of the Taliban might say otherwise.

If you can't even narrow it down to "who killed the most", what can you narrow it down to?

TL:DR, This is a question that can't be answered and even trying to answer it gets us nowhere. Because you can't single the man out. You have to include his context and the events that influenced his actions. His childhood. His genetics. His social group. Hitler most likely would not have done anything as devastating as what he did if it were not for the Treaty of Versailles for example. I hope you get what I'm saying, I'm having a hard time explaining myself!

My cat. He makes a terrible human being. Must be the worst impression I've ever seen. He fails at being a human being in every respect to be quite honest with you.

...Wait, I think I misunderstood the question.

Mao is the greatest in terms of pure numbers. But I don't think that makes him the worst human being. He was just a moderately horrible human being who gained enough power (and had a big enough population base) to commit the most mass murder. I imagine the worst human being ever is probably some random person of no major notoriety. Miserable little piles of secrets, we are.

I love the fact that your TLDR is almost as long as your actual answer. You rebel you.

OT: My younger brother leaves used dental floss on his keyboard. I'd say that at least puts him in the running.

Why thank you ;) I'm so rebellious.

Oh, forget all that nonsense I said about subjectivity. Fuck that, your brother sounds like death itself. I nominate Mr Thin's little brother as a contender.

I just laughed so hard he looked over at me and asked what the hell was so funny. I haven't the heart to tell him.

SillyBear's got it right. I think most 'bad' world leaders have/are at least trying to do something helpful, to an extent, for others. The worst would probably be a serial killer, who kills just for his own enjoyment - or someone like that - but then you have to delve into why they made those decisions and the fact that is that you'd probably do, relatively, the same as them (if you lived their life). Of course, then you'd have to bring up the whole argument about whether or not there is freewill (I don't think there is).

Pretty much everything he said. I'm of the opinion that Pope John Paul II was a pretty horrible person (for the implementation of the "condoms give you AIDS!" strategy for attempting to combat AIDS in Africa bullshit), but it is all subjective.

Agree on this...
What angers me the most though is how he called himself and is often confused with Communists...

As A Communist, I am Furious and would use the first chance i have to roundhouse kick him...

But well... I think no matter what Ideology you have, one would love to sock Mao in the jaw :)

Send in Chuck Norris!

Uwe Boll.

Oh come on, you've all looked at one of his movies and thought "I loved that game a few years ago, this will be like a little piece of nostalgic heaven" only to have your hopes and dreams shattered and dumped on from a great height by that thrice damned movie.

Therefore I nominate Uwe Boll, destroyer of dreams, as worst human being of all time ...... well either him or Simon Fuller for putting the spice girls together as a singing group. Great eye candy indeed but voices that would make a strangled cat hang it's head in shame at.

As people said, a lot of it is relative. But if I had to pick one I'd say Pol Pot. Not only for being an evil leader, but also for enacting some of the most insanely unrealistic policies. Being paranoia and evil is one thing, but torturing and killing people just for wearing glasses (wearing glasses makes you an intellectual and thus and enemy of the people) that's just insane.

How was Mao not a communist? The way he ran the economy, and the suppression, is the very definition of communism. Take everything away from the people, and force them to work for free, that's the very definition of communism right there.

That some extreme socialists conjure up some mythology about how people would supposedly willingly go along with such a system doesn't make a difference for the fact that oppression is inherent to communism, and radical socialism as a whole.
God Fucking Daim it, i knew it would be like this...

How was Mao not a communist?

He was a dictator! There it is...

The goal of Marx was a Proletarian dictatorship controlled NOT by one man or one Party... But by One Class...

We as proletarians would go in and demand to have what we produce..

The workers must control the means of production and everyone must be a part of this goverment before it is a Proletarian dictatorship...

The proletarian dictatorship is basicly the Paris Commune...

Even Marx himself said that as the first Proletarian dictatorship...

So no... Mao is no Communist... if he think he is, then he is more insane than... No wait... He is just insane...
