Broke a couple bones in my right foot playing American Football. No insurance. Stayed home for a couple weeks to let it heal.

All I got is my broken nose. It healed, but the bones healed in the same way they were broken. So..you can tell I broke it.

I just posted it earlier in the bike helmet thread.

Imagine a 250 pound slab of person sailing at 30 km/h (about 14 mph) into a fence, dragging his (helmeted) head across the sidewalk.

Badly bruised, nasty headache, only two cuts for some reason, no ripped clothes, bike still functional. I'm completely shaky, but I recover in a few days. Nothing too bad.

Heck, the worst injury I've EVER had and went to a doctor over was a hairline fracture in my foot from falling off a couch.

EDIT: Holy crap, some of you guys are NUTS. Consider moving somewhere where your medical care is tax-funded if it's really a kick in the wallet to get a doctor to look at you. Someone's going to get killed.
Some of it may be internet tough guy syndrome.

OT:If it doesn't need stiches or broken, then I don't feel the need to go to the doctor.

I was taking down a barbwire fence--one that was quite old and rusty--and one of the barbs dug really deep into my arm. I washed it out, slapped a bandaid on it (which promptly fell off) and then continued about my business.

I could have gotten tetanus (I haven't had the vaccination since I was, like, nine). But I didn't. All I have now is a cool scar on my arm XD

Another time (about sixth grade), I accidentally stabbed about halfway through my left index finger with a steak knife. (Was cutting something and my finger twitched at just the wrong time.) My dad just slapped a bandaid on it and it healed over the course of a few months.

Two broken ribs.

And crushed right ring finger. Thankfully, the bone wasn't broken; my finger just got really, really blue till I got a small needle from the pharmacy, and poked holes in may nail with it to let the blood and pus out. It was pretty gross actually, too bad I didn't have the idea to film the entire procedure.

Edit: I actually don't know how many ribs were broken, I just know that some ribs were broken.

An elevator door closed on my big toe when I was six, it was a big bloody mess but we were on vacation. This was also the "makeup" vacation, the previous year I spent vacation in the hospital.

I really dislike it when people who didn't get a medical opinion on the matter, and have no evidential basis for saying so, claim to have suffered specific medical conditions that would need to be diagnosed by a doctor. I get that "I hurt my X really bad doing Y" might not be as impacting as saying "I broke my X doing Y", but it just grates on me for some reason.

3 bullets to my right shin. We were at a lake hunting when it happened, but somehow I was healed up thanks to the water from the lake. Either way,the bullets are lodged into my shin. No morphine,no bandaids,no first aid,not even a kiss on it.

I split a tendon playing handegg when I was 10. It made a bruise that covered the entire bottom half of my arm and hurt like hell whenever I banged it on something. I also once shoved my finger between the sheets of an airport baggage-claim conveyor belt when I was young. It bled like mad, but a few band-aids fixed it up.

A bit off-topic, I feel like a complete pansy posting this after broken ribs, etc.

Well, I suppose this counts. A while ago, I managed to land myself with Stage 3 (out of 5, and 5 is "Total Failure) Kidney disease. A whole lot of doctors attempted to convince me to let them put a lot of different tubes in my....personal tube....and I always said no, convinced I could fix it myself simply by pissing more often. Long story short, I did. And even though they admitted that I was now completely healthy, the STILL wanted to shove the tubes in the....other tube....because they weren't exactly sure why'd I'd gotten Stage 3 disease in the first place. (FUN FACT: The most likely solution, even according to the doctors, is a botched catheter insertion (look it up)during spinal surgery I had in 6th grade. Which I may not have needed in the first place.) So that's why I don't trust doctors.

Broken wrist and some battered ribs after a car accident.

How did I find out my wrist was broken? Two days after the accident I was lifting a leather sofa when my supervisor yells at me to put it down, runs over and points to the thin purple line across my wrist. "You, hospital, now." Sure enough, broke my radial. Got a cast and went back to work. There was really no point in me getting the cast since my wrist had already healed around the break, and rather than risk breaking it again they just wanted to cover their ass by doing -something- I guess.

The funny thing is that the paramedics who were on scene at the accident assured me that "You're fine, just give it an off and on cold compress for tonight and that's it". Henceforth, if at all possible I will never take an ambulance, taxi only. Not only will I probably receive better care, it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Technically the time I broke my skull would also qualify, since after bouncing from one hospital to another they finally told me "Well, there's no damage to your brain and it won't get any worse as long as you don't take another blow to the head. Put this cloth headband on and as the injury is now classified as purely cosmetic, we'll slot you in for surgery in a month".

I can sort of see how that would be considered cosmetic surgery as it was only a two inch hole... in my freaking HEAD.

I had a 2 1/2 inch splinter, 5 toothpicks deep, get stuck in my hand when I was about 9. Hurt like a sonuvabitch, and I ended up having to go to the Emergency room. It came within a millimeter of me losing use in my hand.

Liver cancer.

After my thyroid cancer. The VA hospital in the US after my Navy time will not admit it is service connected and pay for it.

Not to just cure me, because it means they have to up my disability rating.

Dislocated all four fingers in my left hand while rough housing with my friend, all it took to fix was to scrunch my left hand into a fist with my right hand, and some tylonol. I've also dislocated both shoulders and managed to pop them back into place... is it normal that dislocation dosen't hurt that much for me?

I once got impaled and went months without treatment.

...Ok, it's not that dramatic. It was a toothpick, and it only went a few inches in. But it's techinicaly impalement. Plus there's the fact that it got infected, which wan't fun.

I completely dislocated my left knee (as in, my lower leg was perpendicular to the rest of my body) when I was in foster care. My foster mother didn't believe me, so I snapped it back into place on my own with the tie of a bathrobe between my teeth.

Stupid *****. We found out later (after it came out twice more) that my ligaments are super loose. That was a fun year.

I never got 2 broken knuckles checked out. I'm pretty damn sure they were broken because I can see a small deformity in the bones, like an extra bulb that wasn't there before.

I broke them when I hit a tile wall really hard. And I mean really hard after completely loosing my shit. If I wouldn've hit the wall I would've broken my brother's nose, so yeah.

Working with that hand was a ***** though. I constantly had to squeeze my hand between shelves when I stocked them, and each time I even slightly touched the top shelf a lance of fire shot through my hand. And it happened a lot. Yeah those were a fun couple of weeks.

Second place would be a severely sprained ankle after stomping the ground for the same reason as I hit the wall, emergency anger venting. I limped for about 2-3 months, and I walked a lot so that wasn't very comfy either. It earned me the name Captain Limpy at school though, I was our resident pirate. I'd walk in the classroom and go YARRRR!

Honourable mention goes to when we were playing football and I got a massive bleeding nose after stopping the ball with my face (I was the goalie). I just continued on playing, I just let it bleed out and cleaned up afterwards. That felt...interesting, I kind-of suspect I broke it.

So yeah, I don't check out things pretty often. I barely if ever use band-aids on cuts and abrasions either, I just don't give a damn about injuries.

Edit: Oh and it took a week before I got my fractured elbow checked out after falling from my bike. I biked home with it too, when I came home I discovered I couldn't get my arm out of the position I had it in while biking.

After a week my mum got me to the hospital though, only to discover it was fractured and I had to cast it up. And I still was able to game, albeit extremely awkwardly.

By depth, knife cut to right hand. Cheers, school friend.
By energy dissipated, motorcycle crash. Injury unknown, but probably cracked ribs and briefly dislocated a shoulder. Also lost some skin.
By pain caused, hurting my back and knees, then hurting my back again. Yes, I got "treatment" for my knees, but it was no use whatsoever. There isn't much they can really do for those injuries.
