I think all bands suck live. I really hate it when you can hear the crowd cheering during the song.
Not sucky bands, sucky crowds. Go to a small concert with a musician and people that really care. At any festival people are f****** douches and sing along on the songs and shit. Annoying as hell.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers, used to be a huge fan, saw them at Reading Festival and haven't listened to them since. Still the worst live band I've ever seen!

Marylin Manson was terrible at Download 09, I was really looking forward to seeing him but he just sucked.
That's just being cruel to terrible bands. Manson at Download '09 was far beyond painful.

Its just terrible.
If shit could "sing" it would sound like this.
I third this, I have to say their performance at the superbowl had to be one of the worst live acts i've seen or heard.

I love Autechre's music, but they put on boring goddamn performances. I realize they are doing a lot of live tweaking and tinkering, but they may as well not be for what stage presence it conveys.

You know, considering what big MAX/MSP heads AE are, you'd think they could at least load jitter and get some live 3D animations going on a projector and a MIDI CC light show or something. *sigh*

If you're not into this sort of thing to begin with, the entire thing is just going to be torture, anyways.

While not a band, Katy Perry is just terrible live 99% of the time. I don't know how she manages to still get booked for performances.

It's called a backing track, lady!

Autechre should just hire a semi competent VJ and their performance problems would be solved. But then again, their kind of music isn't designed to hype up a crowd anyway.

I've never really seen a "bad" band live. I've seen some that were better than others, sure, but none that I can recall walking away going "that was just fucking awful."

So you hate when people sing along to a song they like at a live show? even though bands will often times encourage crowd interaction and such?

Pre recoreded was bad enough for me.
I was going to say.

I listen to a lot of indie/alternative music, and small bands on the rise tend to be defined by their live shows. That being said, I was very disappointed in M. Ward. He wasn't bad live...just kind of boring.

*shiver* Owl City.

I saw them 2-3 years ago, they[footnote]I say "they", not "he", because there were three or four guys onstage at the time. I know the recorded stuff is just one guy, but as a band, there was more than one person onstage. So it's a "they".[/footnote] opened for Relient K in Orangevale, CA, along with Runner Runner. It was before "Fireflies" became popular, so I had no idea who they were. But let me tell you, they did NOT leave a good first impression. All their songs sounded too similar, their set went on WAY too long, and compared to the main act, they were just plain boring.

I expected that the person I was quoting was when bands did not encourage them. Because if they don't, yeah I want them calm down and stfu. It might be awesome, but it surely will ruin the experience for many.
That is why olden artists have better concerts IMO. Everyone there usually has respect for the artist, and stay completely silent so others can enjoy it.

I actually saw Dragonforce live on their ultrabeatdown, they wernt great, they were all right they were not the worst ive seen, however they were completly overshadowed by Turisas who were absolutly amazing.

OT: These guys were probably the worst ive ever seen live (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWuNmOE3PVo), not because they were bad but because when you are opening for a technical metal band and they start playing stuff that make Metro Station look heavy something has gone horibly wrong.

MCR are pretty damn good live. Not the best but not bad

OT: The only bad gig I've ever been to was Tenacious D back when I was 16. They were so damn dull and they made it into some kind of shitty pantomime crap. I don't really like them any more anyways
I've seen bands what were average live, like Bring Me The Horizon. Saw them back when they first started and they were dreadful, then I saw them a few months back and they were a lot better but still not great, nowhere near as good as Parkway Drive (same gig) who were just mind-blowing!
I also saw Red Hot Chili Peppers a few years ago and they weren't bad but they didn't bring anything new or exciting. A good live band stand out through their showmanship and energy and RHCP just played as well as they do on record, which is fine but not exactly pushing the boat out
I could easily riff a massive list of fantastic live bands, so I will: Parkway Drive (aforementioned), Biffy Clyro, The Gaslight Anthem, Sick Of It All, AFI, SHARKS, Funeral For A Friend. All of these bands really blew me away when I saw them live

well you cant take a shitty genre and make good live performances out of it.

EDIT: linkin park live is like lighting urself on fire and then asking the people around you to piss out the flames.

10 years was pretty damn awful when I saw them years ago. One of the guitarists wasn't even into it and the bassist was acting like an idiot, no one gave a shit and I was happy when they got off.

Flyleaf was another bad one. I couldn't keep track where the singer was on stage half the time, and, this is mean, my friends and I both thought she was acting like an angry little munchkin. I remember only a few people were into them, the pit, and the rest of us were sitting in out seats waiting for them to be done.

I can't say I've ever really run into that problem. Yeah there might be a couple of dopes singing along to every song unprovoked, but it's never ruined a show for me.
