What the hell? An exam is meant to be challenging, I did my Maths GCSE about 3 years ago, I'm now doing Maths at university, and the exam paper (Edexcel, by the way) was really challenging, and all the questions were numerical and actually about Maths. I got an A* at that and went on to Maths and Further Maths A-Levels, and I still found my GCSE pretty tough, although as I say I did ace it (more than can be said for French and German...). However, this just looks like bull. I do an Analysis module which is mostly writing and not actual Maths (it's explaining the reasoning behind Maths, effectively) and my upcoming exam looks bloody better than that. Yeah, Edexcel are obviously going down the drain. Then again, most exam boards are. I'm glad my exam is set by the university instead of the UK examination councils...

easiest paper in ever

honestly why complain if your going to ace it?

plus the two sides of a triangle is to test whether you can prove the obvious...
I don't think his point was that the paper was hard, but rather that some of the questions had near to nothing to do with maths.
Honestly, if you get below an A, bring up the issue with a teacher or write a letter.(maybe? :p)

I actually hated this paper. It was good until the end then on third to last page I got some random question about finding X In a half triangle. It was so useless It was like they telling me to cut down the biggest tree in the world with a tea towel

The OCR paper today was pretty good. It was one of the easiest we've done. And being chinese means nothing to examiners, I've got similar scores and I am not chinese in any way. You've earned yourself those good grades =D

Hmmm although I don't teach Mathematics, we heavily use Edexcel over OCR in ICT. Reason being OCR = paint by numbers = easy grades (although good for the school), onthe other hand, Edexcel = pupils have to think 'outside' the box = superior (and I do mean superior) 'life' skills which although doesn't necessarily equate to better grades for the school, it certainly teaches pupils to think for theirselves, something which employers have 'griped' about for years. Think about it this way, as an employer, would you rather have a straight A student who needs to be shown and 'taught' what to do over many months, or a student with less than average grades who can walk into the job and effectively 'teach' themselves?

youll soon learn that doing something on an exam is just a jump through a hoop and you'll never need to use it once you reach the real world.

most maths in the world isnt about maths anyway its about proving a point with out going any real work
and then all the science they teach in school is actually simplified so much its basically been reduced down to the level of semi congeiled smeg

"Here are two equal halves of an equilateral triangles. They are the same. Why are they the same?"

Since the triangle is equilateral.
Surely it's because they are "equal halves"?
Well both imply the same thing lol. If you have an equilateral triangle if you cut it in half both halves must be equal.
If you cut anything in half both halves must be 'equal'.

@OP'er: ...but what does 'equal' mean in this context? The two triangles are not equivalent (one would be a mirror image of the other)... Is the question asking about area?

I just hate all Maths papers anyway. Example.

"John decided to count and measure all the earthworms in his back Garden, calculate the..."

I'm sorry, "John" needs to get a fucking girlfriend.

John decides to get a girlfriend. He decides to ask a sample of 100 girls. The chance of John succeeding each time is 1/1000000.
Calculate:
a) The probability that John will ever get laid in his entire life.

No, they don't.
I'm in 4th year university in computer science in the mathematics department. Trust me, the Chinese people are just like me and have difficult times as well. In fact, my marks are generally above most Asians in my class.

Furthermore, the stereotype is perpetuated due to the Asian notion of family pride. In Asian cultures parents REALLY push their kids to get top marks. If your parents pushed you that hard you would have straight-A's as well.

Third Grade Math: What is 3x3?

Fourth Grade Math: What is 12*12

Fifth Grade Math: What is 2*6*8

Sixth Grade Math: Why? Why? Why? Why? How? Show your work!!!!!

Ever since then I've hated math with a passion.
I know exaclty what your talking about
this is another reaosn why gamers should rule the world

we would maths do like this "If john can reload his ammo clip 20 times in one match how many times will he need to reload in order to get the (Reload addict Trophy/Achievment) "

or

"If 3d Realms is making a game what is the probability of it coming out ?"

or

"a melee attack is X

if 2x=headshot how much damge does a melee attack do ? "

or

" Snake crawled in a triangle ABC, if AB is 20m and BC is 10m how much did snake crawl from C to A ?"

See maths is much more practical and fun !

Wait one last one ! What has a greater denisty of awesomeness ? Chainsaw Bayonet ? or The Sledge Hammer used in Red Faction ?

You weren't doing the IGCSE paper then. That had the evil question:
Make W the subject: A = 2(LW+WH+HL)
and i was doing it a year early. Reckon I scraped 80% though...

EDIT: I just saw the bit about multiple-choice response boxes. Having done past papers, they seem to have crept in over the past two years and yes, they are a bit pathetic.
