I've a bad habit of thinking games will be so much better than they really are.

"Mass Effect? Looks cool."

Daaamnit all, I want my 50 bucks back.

Buying GTA: Liberty City Stories.
This, too. A friend gave it to me, and I still want a refund.

Battle toads is an awesome game up to the point where you realise it is actually impossible to beat.

I had this too. It's badness was only surpassed by it's easiness. Which brings me to my worst gaming mistake...owning a sega saturn. Crap controllers, crap games.

Buying Farcry 2, because of it I am extremely reluctant to buy any game i haven't played first.
Ya, my friend said that buying Far Cry 2 was the worst $60 he ever spent. Started off fun, but just declined from then on...And we were so hyped up about that game...*crys*.

I paid for Far Cry 2 twice. Once for my PC, but then I discovered I couldn't run it (I bought it off steam so no refunds :[ ). I bought it again for my 360 and was subject to one shitty, hyped up game.

$110 wasted...

Saving over your best file with a crappy one. I tend to get into a groove when I save my games so when it comes time to save, swish swish click and it's saved. But it's not all that effective when you're playing multiple flies and you save over your better one with the crappier one. Hilarity Did Not Ensue.

I have a terrible habit of restarting RPG's because I'm unsatisfied with some small detail of my character... I do it too often for it just to be a quirk. I'm the "commitment issues" guy of the RPG universe, unless my character is just how I want him/her I'm probably going to want to restart... leads to a lot of time wasted.
I know exactly what you mean. I've replayed the first half of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance dozens of times (with unskippable cutsecenes, btw), just because there was some minute detail I hadn't planned for. It's frustrating to be a perfectionist, especially in an RPG.

Mine was not buying Final Fantasy 7 at a video store when it was 9 bucks. Also Final Fantasy 8 is awful in every single sense of that word.

I bought SPORE.

That was about the worst mistake I've ever made...unless you count playing SPORE which was pretty bad too if not worse.

Yeah I hated how it had well made visuals, an entertaining minigame, a complex and flexible combat style, and a slew of characters that while not being unique in any way were easily liveable.

Although Squall does rank high on "FF characters I hate" he's number 2 behind Tidus.

Buying Pokemon Snap thinking I'd be worth the money.
BLASPHEMY! I WILL CRUSH YOU IF YOU BELITTLE THAT WHICH WAS POKEMON SNAP!

Seriously. Taking a perfect shot of Mew was an epic moment.

buying Advent Rising if it wasn't glitchy and had a decent targeting system it might have been great but as it was half the time door or elevators you needed to use to advance in the level didn't work and the targeting system should have been thrown away.

my computer sucked at the time and i thought that Counter-Strike on Xbox was a reasonable replacement for the REAL game

I do this ALL the time in MMO's. That is why I stopped playing them.
