Increased tensions between the U.S. and Russia after it is leaked that Obama said that Putin is "just a pussy who hides behind his private mafia-police" leads to a global nuclear exchange, all humanity is destroyed etc...

Governments worldwide, if they win against wikileaks, will view this as an excuse to finally censor the internet indefinitely. Access to, and the content of, the internet will be heavily moderated and will have to follow protocol set up the powers that be. In other words, the end of the final frontier of freedom on Earth.

As plausible as that might sound, those certain leaked cables about conduct in the UN and private correspondence won't actually spark any kind of real conflict. All that was mentioned in those particular files were trivial information that governments classify for reasons of foreign policy. If they knew that Hillary Clinton thought Vladamir Putin was a poopy-head, foreign relations are hindered. However, they in no way, shape, or form invoke any reason to start a war.

Lack of trust between nations, american public turning against the government, and losing a few allies. but the worst possible outcome would be a Justin Beiber concert.

Didnt they just arrest the wikileaks guy in britian? I don't believe it will really affect anything. The government if they want to can arrest the posters and ban the site.

Worst possible conclusion: They shut down Wikileaks.

As much as I dislike some of the information they're releasing (seriously, they should not under any circumstances be releasing stuff that can be used by terrorists) the portal for whistleblowers needs to stay open, because who knows what can be uncovered in the future.

Also, North Korea decide to attack South Korea based on WikiLeakean intelligence and WWIII starts.

WORLD WAR III!!!!
I actually thoguht it would've started at the Beijing olympics because of the way they cleared people out to make the stadium and we make a big deal about people being oppressed over there.

Wikileaks isn't the only whistleblower portal on the internet, but it is amongst the most prolific.

I think the worse scenario is that it's shut down.

its not that easy...no one government or nation owns the internet... and if i got my facts right, the only thing the american government can do is arrest the man who leaked the files to the wikileaks guy.... the website wont be taken down, and neither will the info because the internet is one of those grey areas where the rules blur....no one knows who owns what...

worst possible outcome:

Increased tension around the world and several more soldiers are killed due to "opposition forces" learning the plans the US military has set up, and then counters them.

These guys need to be strung up and killed..... very, very slowly. These guys didnt just release governemnt speaches, but also military plans that havnt happened yet... if the wrong people get ahold of these files, it could cost us more lives that dont need to be lost.

The most recent one? Where it reveals china is working on teleportation?
Chinese Chrono Troopers attack the U.S. and it's allies at the same time, appearing in the bathrooms of key dignitaries as they evacuate their bowels. America strikes back with it's highly top-secret psychic warfare division and dirigibles. A mysterious mineral begins appearing over much of the earth. Tanya blows up a building.

Eh? I was joking, I don't really think any harm will come from these leaks. Also, Off-Topic but you have the same 1st part of your name (JoJo) as me.

This, seconded. It is not the privilege of the people to know everything that the government does, for hopefully obvious reasons. I also take issue with his manner of defending free speech, namely by attacking the only institution that upholds it, i.e. the West (as a geographic generalization).

Things carry on as they were. That, friends, is the worst that could happen.

exactly!

America may be the "land of the free", but you dont have the right to know everything. There are just somethings, for the sake of a smooth operating government, the american public can know.

The facts will get caught in your stupid little left vs right wing goverment games, and your redneck republicans will see Obama as a socialist, and that somehow makes him evil, and they plana revolution, and all that shit....and your pussy lib dems wont do thing about it, cause they feel everyone should be allowed to do what they want.

Political carpet bombing.

Every nation that even had the smallest hand in sending Assange to prison will find all their deepest and darkest and dirty secrets exposed for the whole world to see.

He likes crushing bastards, and there is no bigger one than the one who sends you to prison.

This looks like the worst case scenario to me. We have witnessed an unparalleled erosion of civil liberties and government oversight in the name of national security over the last ten years. If our governments find that they can successfully crush anyone who tries to reveal the truth about some of their shady dealings, they may feel that they have carte blanche to go after any other sources of irritation. That can only be bad news for everyone involved.

Some of the leaked articles will prove devastatingly embarassing, particularly to leaders in the middle east who have publically condemned America's imperialism before their own people while supporting US operations fully and even asking for and covering for them behind closed doors. Embarassing? Oh yes. It's nice to clear the air and get a bit of honesty around here though, no?

Julian Assange states his case here [http://www.theaustralian.com.au/in-depth/wikileaks/dont-shoot-messenger-for-revealing-uncomfortable-truths/story-fn775xjq-1225967241332] along with highlights of the odd behaviour coming from the Australian government. I think Wikileaks and their ilk provide a vital service- now more than ever. I've yet to read about any cases where info leaked by these guys has directly affected anyone in or out of active combat. All they've accomplished so far is allowing the general public see how some of our leaders really feel about each other and the world in general. In short it's left a lot of politicians red-faced, and that's something everyone can enjoy.
