As a frequent player of Runescape I, like any MMO player, have to be on the look out for scammers. The developers always try to make you aware of the oldest tricks in the book and common parts of a scam, but nevertheless people will sometimes fall for them. The clever types of scams rely on charm, planning, and a bit of luck, these are not these scams. The scams I am talking about are the ones that had little effort put into them, poorly thought out, or poorly executed. Worse still they try the oldest forms of scamming such as saying "show me you inventory and I'll show you mine" and then hoping that your foolish enough to press the accept button in the trade screen.
I've recently run into one such brain-dead, soon-to-be-banned scammer, who's attempt was so pathetic and poorly thought out it was laughable. As I was acquiring oaks logs to make building supplies he comes up to me and asks "Do you want to be in a video?", I reply saying "For what?". His reply to this is "For a Youtube mix-up", I say "that depends, what is the video about", he answers with a confidence bolstering "IDK". He then tells me that all I need to do is to "pretend" to show him my items, at that point the alarms bells start ringing in my head, the randomness, the poorly thought out responses, and finally asking to see my items in trade. I respond to him saying "Yeah no thanks, reported" and put him on my ignore list. He proceeds to fuck off and I leave to convert my logs to planks.
So how about you? Have you ever encountered such a pathetic attempt to scam you out of your hard earned items? Please share your story, but don't give out names. And if this is against the rules then I ask the mods to please lock the thread.
